Hi everyone
I wanted to share this with you or maybe someone else had this happened before.
This morning I received an email that says someone is interested in buying one of my domains for a much higher price of $25000. After a few emails exchanged with the person i found out that she is a broker working for some rich investors from Norway who are looking to buy domains to invest in web projects, and after she told that in order to proceed with the sale, the buyer requires certification of compliance with Norway law and trademarks. Also told me to contact her ASAP on telegram where we can discuss in detail.
Does someone know if this is a Scam or not? I have read on the internet that this type of Scam it's been used around.
I hope you guys have more experience with this kind of transactions. Thank you for reading.

It is well known scam. if you want to play along without losing anything than time of course, ask them to deduct the appraisal money from the money on offer. They will be gone forever lol.

Telegram ?
Are telegrams still a method of communication?

Reply that you will send it via carrier-pigeon.

Sorry, but it is a tired old scam. These low life vultures raise their heads from time to time.

Send them an email that you have posted all their info on a domainer site to verify their validity. That should make them leave you alone.

Sadly these scams must be working for it to still be so prevalent. The scam idea is just to let you pay for some service like appraisal or some other invented non sense... Maybe they will let their special lawyers at a specific to a global copyright search for a small sum. But what's that when you about to get 25K.

Then abracadabra.... and they vanish

100% scam, especially new domainers gets these type of emails (as they are in the hope that domains sells in 10000s of dollars) in the name of asking appraisal certificates and for that they ask some money to buy certificate.

Generally nobody offer such a huge money initially to buy any domain. So newbies you have to beware of these types of emails. Do some research before exchanging emails as well as we don't know sometimes we get trapped in the hope of getting huge money.

Thanks,
Sumeeth

This is what's called an "Appraisal Scam". Do a search for the term here at NamePros and you'll get TONS of information.

Essentially these people set up the actual appraisal companies. So they get you to pay $50-$100 for an appraisal, and then they disappear.

They make it look legit by giving you a few choices. But typically they own the cheapest 1 or 2 on the list to make it look legit.

Unfortunately it is very common in the industry.

The best thing to do is ignore them .. but if you have already engaged them, then waste their time by taking forever to respond and asking a lot of stupid questions over and over again.

First BAIT, is a huge offer, without negotiation. Usually, even if big organisations are trying to acquire a domain, they reach you out through a proxy buyer, who starts low balling. That's how negotiations happen, if its a bigger (than expected) offer right away. First, red flag. Proceed with caution.

If you are asked to pay for any kind of certification, then ITS A SCAM.
As a seller, you don't PAY for anything, its the buyer's job to verify & pay for everything of that sort.
At this point, they are trying to sell you a service (that you never needed) and you are not the seller anymore (don't pay for anything).

Did you say Telegram?

Why not email or, Skype or, a professional contact medium, if she's a professional broker? Another red flag. Lastly this is why I usually use Whois privacy so that such scammers can't reach out to me through email, with such offers.

Take care & stay safe.

Cheers

It is a an old scam, you got it late.
The Rule of Thump: Any one who asks you an upfront payment/fees, is 100% scam. Trash them out.

ignore

a real buyer will eventually contact you directly with a real offer - take it.

Scam, the certification company was just setup itself, I got this same message a few months back and the certification company was just registered and setup the same day.

I’ve sold domains for $25000 or even $75000 - but the offer never starts at that price, no matter who the buyer is. That’s another way to look at it.
