question Listing on Sedo and DAN at the same time?

I recently noticed that many of my newer names were absent from Sedo, so I added them, and got emails from Sedo about needing to verify ownership.

I use Dan's landing pages for the majority of my names.

In order to verify, I need to edit the DNS in one way or another, but I'm using DAN's nameservers which don't give me the ability to make any changes like adding a txt record.

I need to switch to other nameservers in order to do that (It appears that Epik, for example, does give us control over our dns entries while using their landing pages.. so if I was using Epik's nameservers, I could just add the txt record for sedo and be on my merry way, I think? Can anyone confirm?)

I want to have my names listed on both Dan and Sedo, and Sedo requires ownership verification and dan doesn't, so I could use sedo's landing pages and still be listed in dan, but in order to use dan's landing pages and still be listed in sedo, I need to verify, but I can't verify becasue dan's nameservers don't offer that feature.

Soooooo, if I switch my nameservers to sedo's, verify ownership with Sedo by adding the txt record, can I then switch BACK to Dan's nameservers and still be verified with sedo? Does anyone know if the sedo verification just needs to be done once then it's all good, or if it needs to "stay" verified by keeping the txt record accessible?

While I have you here, are there other marketplaces I should be aiming for besides DAN, Sedo, Afternic? It's my understanding that listing with afternic gets me into godaddy search results, but is it the same as if I manually add them to godaddy's marketplace myself? I host most of my names at namesilo, dyna, or namecheap and actively avoid godaddy due to their extortion-tier fees on renewals and privacy, but would still like to list names for sale there that aren't registered there.

Thanks everyone, appreciate ya!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Instead of using nameservers, set up DNS on your registrar.

Contact DAN for their IP address and add an A record.

Then you can add the TXT record for sedo and the landing page @ DAN will still work.

yes, change to sedo NS , dont worry about txt record. leave for few hours ( some recommend 24 ) then switch back to dan, you only do this one time and its good till you delete domain from sedo.

yes listing with afternic gets you seen on godaddy, and if you put a bin ( which many do not ) you will get fast trasnfer and more exposure .... so they say...

list everywhere you can but many just do afternic/GD , sedo , Dan pages. , more the better of course. Uniregistry etc..

This method slows down load time for first visits , to the point i personally think many would assume its not going to load and move on. i suggest if your considering to do a few and test this. keeping in mind its on first visit that the load is slow. you will have cache after that and assume its fast load for everyone. but it wont be for new visitors / potential end users.

I've had no such issues but will keep an eye out. Thanks for the heads-up.

This is what I do at names I want to list both places.
  • I first change to the default nameservers for whatever registrar the name is at
  • I then make the .txt record required for Sedo verification (note I have found it works much better to do this before I list it on Sedo)
  • Next I list it on Sedo.
  • Then I wait until it shows it has been authenticated and added.
  • Then I change the DNS to point to DAN if that is what is desired.
For me, if I first add the names and then the txt records, they take a long time to authenticate, but if you do the .txt first they almost always seem fast.

Bob

PS yes I wish that this was a bit fewer steps -- at least the bulk tools at Name/com, etc. make adding the .txt fast.

when you have your nameservers at dan

use cloudflare
they auto add the nameservers as needed
modify them adding the text

when verified
switch back to dan

Thanks for this thread, what should I do if I also want to list in Uniregistry marketplace, or perking crew or any other marketplace?

As I am using txt records for sedo while nameservers pointed towards Dan.

The same issue had been recently in my thoughts - Some of my domains (some 15+ years old) are still not listed for sale.

Rather than playing around with text records and knowing the way Sedo operate their verification system. It just seemed simpler to first list at Sedo with the domains resolving to their name servers (wait until they showed as for sale) then switch them to Dan nameservers. Sedo seem happy to keep your names listed providing they don't expire.

Godaddy/afternic listing should be no problem (for me) as that is the registrar . .

Solution is easy
:
(1) just start first with adding the sedo verification TXT at domain registrar and add domain to sedo .
(2) then add domain at afternic .
(3) and last step add DAN nameserver to use DAN lander , and all is done .

I use Epik landers and list with Sedo. One nice thing about Epik's DNS is I was able to setup the sedo txt record as part of the default domain profile that gets automatically applied to all new domains so I don't even have to think about it. I just add it to sedo and the verification just works.

I suspect listing at the uniregistry marketplace will no longer be necessary now that Godaddt bought them Adternic should be good enough, which since they don't do automated verification I opted to leave my whois public so when I email them they can delist the domain without me needing to get a screenshot.

As far as parking crew I believe they support using a cname record.

When you use Sedo for a while, you can't get used to using other platforms, but you always worry that there is something wrong with Sedo. I don't know why.

Sedo's UI is disgusting.

Agreed, fortunately they offer an API so I just automate managing my domains which means I don;t have to deal with their interface.

I just wish Afternic would join the 21st century and offer an API to manage listings.

I use third party landing, both sedo and dan provide txt and A records, just them and wait for few hours and it's all get propagated all good!

Easy solution, but just to check... I was told by someone else that to avoid 3 people buying at once, that 2 places need to be offers and only one can be BIN and thats where the NS is. So just to clarify, do you only do BIN on dan?

What i did,
1. Set default name servers
2. Adding TXT for sedo or any marketplace verification.
3. Adding domain into Dan
3. Set url redirections/forwarding to DAN
preview/landing using my domain registrar. Most of the registrar's allowed free domain forwarding.

Dan dont provide acecss to TXT records as to what I know, and I have contacted the support and they confirmed that too.

That is an important question.

There are penalties that may need to be paid, if you have BIN on multiple marketplaces and are unable to fulfill the transaction due to sales happening in two locations. The safest step is to have only one BIN and all the other marketplaces "make offer."

There is a shortcut via sedo security department email , I've heard if you're a long time user you can just send screenshot of your domains and request they all be verified in one action from their end.
