Hi, pros.
Have you ever sold a domain name with the company shares? How did you formalize it? What pitfalls could be in this type of deal? Thanks in advance.

If you literally mean you are selling to someone both shares in the company AND all rights and control of the company domain name then there is one very big pitfall - what happens if there is a dispute and the owner of the domain name stops it resolving to your company website? The new owner of the domain name would have you over a barrel in any such dispute.

No, I mean I'm selling a domain to some startup and I agree to sell it for their offered price, but I want to own some shares of their company.

@Bohdan - That makes a lot more sense. :)

There is an article by Carvertise CEO Mac Nagaswami (watch the video, it is amusing and shows that it can be done), the link is:

https://domaininvesting.com/carvertise-the-golden-domain-name/

I would suggest though that a lawyer draws up an agreement rather than just the piece of rough paper that was used as shown in the video.

Hope this helps, and good luck. (y)

Rick Schwartz had some cash and stock sale, like these:

eCruise.com to iCruise.com - Cash & Stock
PunchBowl.com to MyPunchbowl.com Cash & Stock

Did they offer you shares?
