Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

One thing is for sure...things will get worse before they get better.

This is interesting. There’s a theory that COVID 19 isn’t actually a respiratory disease but a vascular one, which targets endothelial cells to travel through the body. This would explain the multi organ damage, and why certain preexisting conditions seem to be a risk factor for poorer outcomes.

It would also send the search for effective treatments in a completely different direction.

Yet another country duped into thinking this covid thingy is a big deal...silly people.

India Posts Record Jump in COVID-19 Cases, Modi Says 'Long Battle' Ahead

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India reported a record daily jump of 7,964 new COVID-19 infections on Saturday, with a recent surge in cases as lockdown restrictions start to be relaxed raising the possibility that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could extend curbs beyond May 31.

Thanks for the info, very interesting! So this really opens the door to other probably more effective therapies against Covid-19. From the article:

If Covid-19 is a vascular disease, the best antiviral therapy might not be antiviral therapy

The good news is that if Covid-19 is a vascular disease, there are existing drugs that can help protect against endothelial cell damage. In another New England Journal of Medicine paper that looked at nearly 9,000 people with Covid-19, Mehra showed that the use of statins and ACE inhibitors were linked to higher rates of survival. Statins reduce the risk of heart attacks not only by lowering cholesterol or preventing plaque, they also stabilize existing plaque, meaning they’re less likely to rupture if someone is on the drugs.

“It turns out that both statins and ACE inhibitors are extremely protective on vascular dysfunction,” Mehra says. “Most of their benefit in the continuum of cardiovascular illness — be it high blood pressure, be it stroke, be it heart attack, be it arrhythmia, be it heart failure — in any situation the mechanism by which they protect the cardiovascular system starts with their ability to stabilize the endothelial cells.”

Mehra continues, “What we’re saying is that maybe the best antiviral therapy is not actually an antiviral therapy. The best therapy might actually be a drug that stabilizes the vascular endothelial. We’re building a drastically different concept.”

-------------

“In SARS1, the protein that’s required to cleave it is likely present only in the lung environment, so that’s where it can replicate. To my knowledge, it doesn’t really go systemic,” Lee says. “[SARS-CoV-2] is cleaved by a protein called furin, and that’s a big danger because furin is present in all our cells, it’s ubiquitous.”

------------

My opinion: So, maybe a good therapy target would be to get a drug that inhibits the infection of this protein called furin? Of course that would not be easy, but would be almost definitive for the treatment against Covid-19.

Right now 2,000 people in my city are protesting, some wearing masks, some not. But it can't be good for that many people to be congregated. The rates have already been going up as the area starts to reopen.

I have a feeling Covid is going to be with us for a long time.

I too am watching the crowds in a metro near me...2-3000 they are saying and growing. Looking at live feeds shows only about 5% are wearing masks...of course they are useless for incoming pathogens. I've been told the local hospitals are giving projections of infection rates and total deceased numbers to council members privately. I don't have any answers but I do know yelling/screaming and standing shoulder to shoulder with strangers is not a good thing to do. The cities that have large numbers of protesters should distribute masks as people congregate. Many more deaths will result due to the murder of one man.

It seems that we're just piling crisis upon crisis. It's hard to process all the tragedy of these last few months.

Lets hope the doctor is correct and this bug is mutating itself into nothingness...

New coronavirus losing potency, top Italian doctor says

"In reality, the virus clinically no longer exists in Italy," said Alberto Zangrillo, the head of the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan in the northern region of Lombardy, which has borne the brunt of Italy's coronavirus contagion.

I would not believe or rely too much on that. One says it's losing potency... well, I would say that's because the 3 months confinement of the people.
Give the virus one month of freely spread before the winter and we will see if it's losing potency.
The other says directly "In reality, the virus clinically no longer exists in Italy". Man, was for doctors like this one, that Italy had a virus explosion and more than 30,000 deaths. While they saw what was happening in China, they kept saying.. no.. this virus won't affect us here, because we are very far away... and virus won't travel... and there are country borders...sure.
And the story repeats. Really hopefully this winter won't be a second wave... but the History and the Biology say there are big odds of this second wave, and it should be taken very seriously because for the moment, there's no reliable therapy and no vaccine for Covid-19.

New measures put in place to avoid spread of the virus in Mexico, no mustaches

"Aside from making the use of masks mandatory and social distancing, authorities in Mexico are restricting people from having beards, mustaches, wearing ties and using jewelry which they say are reservoirs for the virus."

I have not tracked Iran in my numbers as the data is likely unreliable due to the stifling of information by the government. The young woman in the story below will likely end up dying and I post it here because I'd seen her images before covid19 started its run. (FYI, the look is primarily due to makeup and Photoshop...her real image is in the story). Instagram is the only social media allowed and she went too far (according to those in charge) in her posts and individualism.

Researchers retract study that found big risks in using hydroxychloroquine to treat covid-19

Three of the authors of a study that found the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine was dangerous for hospitalized covid-19 patients retracted it Thursday, saying they could “no longer vouch for the veracity of the primary data sources.”

The retraction notice was posted by the medical journal Lancet, which had published the study on May 22.

The study, purportedly based on the health records of almost 100,000 patients around the world, found that hospitalized covid-19 patients treated with the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine — a drug repeatedly touted by President Trump — had a sharply higher risk of death and heart problems compared to those who did not receive the drug. It also showed the drug didn’t provide a benefit. The study was “observational,” which is less rigorous than a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial.
