Why some random number domains cost so much?

I was on dropcatch and saw domains like "15288.com" going for 1000$, why is that and is there a way I can learn how to value those number domains, thanks in advance

Hi

take a trip back thru time and read thru some sales threads pre 2014

when "chips" hit the fan and all the 4 number got registered, next went 5 number, then 6 number
such domain mainly went to or were for, Chinese market and their $ fueled and flamed the fire.

domainers speculate on them, simply for that possibility or that another domainer will pay to get some in their portfolio

I have a couple purchased much lower than amount you posted, so the spread is getting wider.

like why 15288.com is good but 17677.com isn't, in English I know if a word is a good domaine, but when they are random numbers how do you tell, all 5 numbers letters are good?

$1000 isn't that much money most people make that in two days of work. However, for a domain it is a little bit and would be a decent quality domain for that price. Avoid 4's and 0's in number domains. Patterns add value, Chinese love 8 over any other nuber

check on NP's I think I did a little write up about is as much as I knew which was not much..

as for 15288.com

The value is the two 8's consecutive.

To the chinese "All good things come in pairs"

Plus 8 is the luckiest of all numbers to the Chinese.

So ............if you have a "pair" or 8's in one domain? What do you extrapolate from THAT?

Also numbers have meaning to the chinese..

like 108 is auspicious.

just Google. Chinese lucky numbers.

To be honest, I don't know why long numeric domains sell for high prices. Rarely do I see them being used by Chinese end users. Up to 4N is fine, and maybe once in a while 5N, but 6N or longer? I think they belong to the speculator market where prices depend more on speculator sentiment than actual use.

One reason why 'some' 6 number domains have a relative value is because they can be used as a date of birth, examples:

061193 could be used as 06/11/93.

As such a person could use it to identify themselves easily (and remind everyone to buy them a birthday present

). So these domains can be classed as vanity domains, as such they could be bought by the person themselves for their own use, or by someone to give as a present (think birthdays, weddings, christenings, etc.).

(Have I just written a post that could fuel a domain investment trend???? Hope not.)

Repetition, Pattern and the easiness of remembring is what make numeric domains valuable. Of course shorter is better. But some factors as without 0 and 4 (so called chineese premium Ns) belong more to speculators than end users.

In fact it was. It looks that it used to be related to ISO 15288

To add to that.
When I see strange sales, the first thing I do is I search for the term in G. 15288 is obvious what it's about.
Second thing I do is look in archive.. in this case it used to be a simple website about products that obey ISO 15288 rules.

I've been living in China for a few years now and also found this interesting. I learned that all the numbers sound similar enough to Chinese words that they can be symbolic. Also, Chinese are superstitious. For example. 4 is "si". The word "si" actually has more than four pronunciations with the different intonations, and each intonation is also used to represent multiple words. So "si" isn't one word, it's more like 20 words, and that doesn't even factor in how "si" could be combined with other words to change it into hundreds of meanings. Practically speaking, 4 is avoided because "si" means "death".

Sorry to say, due to the complexity involved best to get a Chinese person who really gets this number to word concept to help you pick "good" number domains, or else really study up on it.

As far as 15288.... I don't know about the "2" off the top of my head... but just 1588 to me sounds like ai wo baba "Love my father" or also kind of like "I love money".

google is banned in country end-users most use the subject you’re searching for.

Better Baidu in this case imo

Baidu is really hard for me to navigate unfortunately but why do that when any other search engine does the job for me?
Even in this case, as you mentioned, the number and the website refer to the ISO number and not anything related to China.

Learn Chinese or make a friend with a Chinese and ask or hire a Chinese to translate

The ISO/IEC 15288 is a systems engineering standard covering processes and lifecycle stages. Initial planning for the ISO/IEC 15288:2002 standard started in 1994 when the need for a common systems engineering process framework was recognized.

A quick google search reveals 3.6M results!!! Its a popular ISO standard, and some company might want to own it.
