Hi all, asking to see if anyone got a similar experience.

April 2 2020 I registered Domain name Chicken//Desire//com at Porkbun.
Immediately I listed on Dan & afternic (now deleted).

Next, I wanted to update/change nameservers to point to Dan. I couldn't update nameservers. Tried to update to afternic, same issue.

I reached out to Porkbun support. While waiting for their reply which took over 8hrs to come. I checked the whois status and here was what I saw:

Status:
serverDeleteProhibited
serverHold
serverTransferProhibited
serverUpdateProhibited

I'll skip the dialogue I had with the support agent where I had to 'educate' him about ICANN EPP status codes (after I searched online). Although I believe the support agent knew and was trying to be evasive for reasons best known to them.

He kept talking about DNS not propogating and nameservers I was trying to use not correctly registered/misconfigured. This really got me angry as I expected they should have figured out the Domain status codes were unusual.

I did search Google and checked the ICANN website, which confirmed that #ServerHold & #ServerUpdateProhibited was placed on my newly registered domain name by the registry.

I gave the go ahead to the registrar (Porkbun) to contact the registry while declining to cancel the order and be refunded. This was done April 4.

16days after (more than 10 working days) there's been no update from the registry according to Porkbun.

The newly registered domain name doesn't resolve to a/any landing page.

What could have happened?
The domain name doesn't also seem to have been registered before.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
When I check Who.is it seems to be working correctly.

Well, that is far from the reality.

1. The domain name is currently set to porkbun's default nameservers. Visit Chicken//Desire//com. It aught to display porkbun's parking page. But It doesn't resolve to any landing page.

2. I can't make any updates to the nameservers.

3. The registrar also admitted something wasn't right and has contacted the registry (as I was told).

But having to wait 2+ weeks with no reason yet, why this is, is puzzling.

Your domain will not propagate for as long as it is in the serverHold status.

Did you use DANs dns servers at checkout when you ordered the domain? This could have caused this to happen if they have some sort of misconfiguration on their DNS.

Weird they take so long to resolve this or send you an update.

"Did you use DANs dns servers at checkout when you ordered the domain?”

No. There's no option for that at checkout. I only tried to update nameservers after the order has been confirmed and domain in my account.

1 month after... Nothing:-/

That is a status placed at the registry level. Really only the registry could explain what is going on.
If you can't get anywhere, file a complain with ICANN.

Brad

Complaint form won't submit as the TLD (chicken//Desire//com) is said to be not valid.

Good morning,

It may be because the domain name sounds like you want to have sex with chickens so it is probably not the best combination or choice of words.

Get a refund and move on and use the money to find a better domain name combo.

Weired :xf.grin:
Maybe.

But my thoughts (when registering the name) were related to restaurant business/food etc

At least, a reason should be given by the parties concerned why the domain name is on #ServerHold.

I really am not bothered about the cost (registered for next to nothing ($3).

I'm after the reason why the #Hold happened.

Are you a vegan? Most people would desire to eat chicken.

Good afternoon,

I am not a vegan and I like chicken and would even go so far as to say that I love chicken.

However, I'm sure that there are combinations of words when put together they have a slightly different meanings.

I'm sure there are many such examples and we don't need to go into them here.

Update: 29 May 2020 Domain name: ChickenDesire.com

So here is Porkbun's response after requesting for feedback:

"OK, I waited on hold with Verisign today, here's the update:

The reason they won't answer our inquiry is because the case has been referred to the FBI. My guess is that the domain is the subject of a criminal investigation and placed on serverHold as the result of a federal court order.

I can contact the FBI to inquire if you'd like, but I'm guessing they won't release any info to me."

A newly registered domain...

Maybe it was used in the past?

Does anyone knows how to accurately check if a name was previously registered?

Holy smokes, it sounds like @Reddstagg was onto something with his prediction!

Yeah, they ring me from time to time just to get my perspective on things.

I shudder to think what domain names and websites they have to trawl through on s daily basis.

I think I'll just stick to hyphens lol.

Google "chickenDesire", you'll see results relating to culinary, cooking, etc

Absolutely, 100%, and I would never imply you didn't register this with wholesome intentions. 100% the most common use for this would be culinary, of course. 999999 out of 1000000 times this is a cooking domain.

I initially thought Redd's interpretation was super far out there, but then we learned the domain was flagged by the FBI lol. And I'm still being kind of tongue in cheek here, just to be clear!

By the registry actually. Just to put things in context.

Thank you for the clarification. Best of luck in getting this sorted out, what a mess!

Good luck with getting this resolved.

I guess it is just one of those things that happens from time to time.

Mostly in Kentucky lol.
