Currently Sedo shows seller's country and I feel some prospective buyers on noticing the Seller's country seem to value the name adversely.

I had a bid on one of my domain at Sedo. While countering with my offer, I bought to his notice the Estibot Appraisal value for the name which was in $ XX,XXX range.
The bidder stuck to his low XXXX offer with an comment - "Different websites outside India show different values of this domain. This is my final offer."

After a few weeks someone emailed me(through the anonymized whois email) exactly similar offer, stating that "Well you are from India and what I am offering you is a lot of money in your currency. I think it will be a smart move to accept my offer."

I don't face such mentality at DAN, UNI or other platforms as they don't make the seller's country public on the domain offer page. If I am not wrong, DAN and UNI only reveal the Seller's Country & Address on Invoice, once the sale/transfer has been completed.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
You are all the way right.

Stick to a price you are selling for. That person is pathetic to my eyes. The country you are from or live in should not determine the price someone will offer to you. This person is very rude, obviously they need the name very much so that is why they are contacting you through whois too. You can reply with the price you gave them before and tell them good luck getting the name for cheap from Indian sellers.

As far as I understand, the country and vat status at sedo is shown for fiscal reasons. Both seller and buyer need to know if what they are negotiating is a net price (exc. VAT) or gross price (inc. VAT). I agree that it is sometimes used in a wrong way, but simply hiding it is not an option.

Simply the best: ignore their messages until they accept your offer

VAT is mostly applicable for EU Buyers and Sellers. If it is applicable due to the transaction by the EU parties, @Sedo can show the VAT applicable at checkout, just like DAN does.

Option to hide Seller's country on the offer or sale page should be provided, at least for Sellers for whom VAT is not applicable.

As I said, simply hiding is not an option, they would have to devise another way to inform about vat status, whether the seller will provide the invoice etc.

Sedo shows VAT status.
Visit any parked domain, click BuyNow - and you will see...
And only this indicator is enough.

So why to show country???

Because if you're an EU company and a VAT payer, then there are several separate cases for VAT:
As a seller:
- buyer is a company from the same country - price includes vat
- buyer is a natural person from the same country - price includes vat
- buyer is a company from another EU country - price does not include vat
- buyer is a natural person from another EU country - price includes vat and the amount (%) varies by country
- buyer is a company from outside EU - price does not include vat
- buyer is a natural person from outside EU - price does not include vat (but there are specific exceptions)
As a buyer:
- seller is a company from the same country and VAT payer - price includes vat
- seller is a company from the same country and not VAT payer - price does not include vat
- seller is a natural person from the same country - price does not include vat and you'll have to arrange some formalities to be able to treat the purchase as a cost
- seller is a company from another EU country and VAT payer - price does not include vat
- seller is a company from another EU country and not VAT payer - price does not include vat
- seller is a natural person from another EU country - price does not include country and you'll be lucky to receive any kind of valid purchase document form them
- seller is a company from outside EU - price does not include vat
- seller is a natural person from outside EU - price does not include vat and usually you can forget about booking it as a cost

On top of all that, there are some countries that have trade restrictions and also some other countries that have totally insane requirements, such as the need to register in their tax system to be able to sell anything to their citizens. So yeah, country does matter...

@Sedo
Please show Natural person (or Company) outside EU - if Seller is outside, don't show the exact country.
