Hi everyone, I was trying to buy a website on flippa, and I wanted to know if this is a scam or not.
I've done a whois research on the domain, and Registrar Status is set to ClientTransferProhibited. Does this mean the owner wouldn't be able to give me the website anyway, and that I'll get scammed? Can anyone explain me what should happen once I pay the owner? Is he going to give me credentials to something or what? I'm sorry but I don't really know anything about this.
Thanks in advance.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Standard setting. He may change it at any time.

My domains are all kept locked too until the moment of transfer.

The auction is ended. It did not sell. Ended a week ago.

Don't worry, I'm talking to the owner in Private, it was just to let you see what he said about the domain and give you the domain name in case you needed it.

No, just a little more than the asking price. I was just really worried about getting scammed you know

It's $150 but another user made the owner an offer for that price, so I had to make a slightly bigger one.

I think you saved $50, I would walk away from this. Not saying it's a scam, but what are you really buying? This was supposedly a real marketing agency, with clients that the owner "took with him"? And he'd sell off the site + brand for $50?

Seems F-I-S-H-Y. Looks to me like someone just installed a barebones Wordpress template and tossed out their line in hopes of turning a worthless name into a few bucks.

I see no evidence that this was ever a real "agency", happy to be proven wrong tho.

Not a good brand/name, not a nice logo, not a nicely designed site, no history, not seeing anything on the Wayback machine, etc. You could pop up your own Wordpress installation on a much better name for about the same price. Better off starting from scratch... and if you don't know how to do that, what business do you have running a digital agency, anyways?

Edit: They're telling you someone else offered $150? I call BS, I'm comfortable calling this a scam now. Walk away.

So what do you suggest doing? Should I make it by myself?

Edit: actually it was the reserve price, the guy later told me someone made an offer for that price.

I suggest ceasing communication with this seller and absolutely not sending them any money, imo.

I don't see any evidence of them being honest with you. I am confident saying that it seems like they are trying to hustle you, there are red flags here. I don't doubt that they would deliver it if you paid them, I doubt that it has any value whatsoever, tho.

If you want to start a digital agency, then sure - grab a hosting account, install WordPress, fill out a few pages, and you'll be better off than starting off with this dead-in-the-water brand. In my opinion.

See how they react, if they have another buyer lined up - surely they won't mind, and you'll be able to look at the domain in a few months and see that someone else has taken over, the phone number has been updated, etc. I doubt it.

What is your experience with SEO, paid traffic, content marketing, social media, etc?
