When you think you've seen enough madness with nGTLDs, Shortdot decided to take the madness to the next level with .cyou.

I know Domainers for who we are. We're still going to send millions of dollars down the toilet registering this even at high registry fee.

I agreed I don't know much about this new extension. Maybe there's something in there that is worth looking into. So, who's going for this? And why?

They say there's something uber cool about the extension but I'm struggling to see it.

All I can see now is uber flat tyres :xf.grin:

101domain has them for $1.49 if you can get it. Im trying to get crypto / cyou now, but its in processing which usually means they bounce it back out. hmmm

You're wasting your time. They'll reserve those and other important terms and release crappy ones to Domainers to suck on.

Though I think their release day is still somedays ahead

We've officially jumped the shark on new TLD's.

Or to put it another way, .LOL

one of the ugliest along with .gdn

At least, gdn is consistent - all the letters are acronyms.

Here, C stands for See, while You stands for You. That is not how you creat acronyms, especially, if You can be replaced by U.

The website has so many open lies, it is unimaginable.

1. cyou is a savvy and uber-cool domain extension - what is savvy and uber-cool about the extension that doesn't make sense??

2. The .cyou domain is for the group of technologically advanced, eco-conscious, open-minded individuals of today - Really? tech advanced guys are going to fall for partial abbreviation? That also doesn't make sense? Why would you put a website, where you are telling people "good bye" after the dot? And what does eco-conscious have to do with it?? Is .cyou somehow saving power? Is 50% of revenue going towards saving polar bears??

3. .cyou is also well-suited for any business or brand trying to appeal to Gen Z or simply looking for an innovative online identity that helps them stand out from the herd - another dumb line with random collection of words. You don't choose a weird extension just to stand out from the herd. You also would be trying to swim against the river flow, while, probably bootstrapped. Imagine, spending 10 minutes of your call trying to close a sale explaining what the hell is cyou and how to spell it and that that is the actual domain and email...

4. A name on .cyou shows that you are innovative and ‘with it’. - anything, but...

5. Memorable The .cyou domain offers a modern twist and is a short, easy to remember domain that will make you stand out. - No, it is not short, it is 4 letters vs 3 in .com and 2 in cctlds, including so called global ones like "co, io, ai, tv". No, it is not easy to remember. Yes, it will make you stand out as someone dumb and gullible. There is a line of bridge-sellers outside of your door probably.

6. Agnostic The .cyou domain is independent of geography, language, and industry and can be used by anyone to denote their presence on the Internet. - a) not sure if it is a plus; b) even if it is, .com is used like that pretty much. Even non-profits use it just fine.

7. Scalable The .cyou domain is perfect for businesses trying to target young audiences and scale to new buyer segments. - Huh? Are they saying other extensions are not scalable? And did not they start by saying that the name is suitable for hip people only?

8. Smart The .cyou domain doubles up as a nifty abbreviation for ‘see you’. - no, it doesn't. It is a dumb abbreviation for "sigh you".

.cya is shorter and I'm sure we will be saying it to this extension in the not so distant future

An extension with very few redeeming qualities as far as I can see.

It really makes no sense. "cyou" isn't a thing. Nobody writes it, it's not a phrase, it's meaningless, it doesn't pass the radio test. If you ran a business on it you would have to tell everyone how to spell it.

It's completely and utterly pointless and serves nobody as an extension.

No probably, it's the worst so far. Who knows what else another crazy registry would come up with that will top this.

How much are they paying ICANN for these new TLDs or are they getting it for free?
