have you ever done this ?
Both of these domains i had handregged last year in jan (2019) then the one sold at dan for 550 euro was renewed this year. Minimum i would have sold it for 999 but sold for much lesser (550 euro) because buyer told me how he and his family had got affected with corona and budget wise they are totally down and the domain could mean a lot to him so i agreed to sell for 550 euro. Have you ever done this? Selling domain for lesser than expected price to help buyer? This is not the first time i have done it and still i get great profit everytime i did this.

Has it ever happened with you?

The one sold at afternic is a failed sale of mine because i didnt renew and instead sold it on NP for $5. I tried to forward this sale to new buyer who refused and had more expectations so afternic sale was cancelled. Has this ever happened with you? Again with me this has happened number of times. But i can't help as i sell names in reseller mostly because of struggling in managing large portfolio. Many times i buy names and even forget to list those for sale or forget to do outbound. Hence every now and then i randomly reduce my portfolio through reselling to manage my portfolio better. Though eventual long term plan is to improve my management skills with increased portfolio. That discussion is for another day.

Kindly do not type any of the domains anywhere. Thank you.

And you are Epik.com staff member? After ridiculous hyphen domain thread started by your boss I'll add your chaotic nature to my list of reasons to never use Epik.

If you can't even get yourself together enough manage your own portfolio of domains how are even on here representing a registrar!

if you do not want to use epik then nobody will force you to do so, its your wish.

Your logic is ridiculous to say the least, managing large number of portfolio is not the prequisite of representing registrar.

It sort of is, I wouldn't trust my domains with a company if I felt that they were generally incompetent and unorganised.

So if an individual is not a domainer with thousands of portfolio then for you he cannot represent registrar and is incompetent and unorganzed. slow claps.
epik is better off with this kind of intellect and understanding of domainer and registrar.

To get back to the topic concerned.

No I have not done that. I guess the nearest I have come is the fact that on a few occasions I have actually registered a domain name unbeknown to them for a small business and literally given them the domain to help them get started, just giving them a hand up in their business venture. But I have never done it for someone who has a hard luck story to tell, nor do I think I ever will. Now if it were a good cause then I would likely do the same again. I have found it rarely hurts to actually do something to help someone occasionally - with the proviso of course it doesn't hurt anyone.

The buyer of your name was Contently, Inc, who have 156 employees on LinkedIn, offices on Wall Street and have had $19m in venture capital.

Sorry but you just got played big time. No room for sentiment in business.

*Slow claps*, I admire your "intellect and understanding" :xf.rolleyes:

could be possible, the buyer i sold it to was from singapore and this company is based at new york, maybe he was middleman, maybe he was still right, maybe he lied as you say. I can't know. I agree one should not trust easily which i did.

and this is not about intellect or understanding, this was about trust. I did trust what he told me. I still hope he was right because i believed him and it seemed so, but i agree one should not trust so easily.

Afternic did not close your account because you forgot to delete the domain that has been "sold"?

Mine was closed :(

The "Corona discount" is much used now and we don't know if that a true story or not...

No thankfully they didn't, i have heard they close the account if it happens with you when you are new but if you are a seller for at least few years and with good number of sales, then they do not.
for you i believe if you request them sincerely and make them understand properly then they will reinstate your account. I know others getting accounts recovered with similar experience.

Wait, does this mean someone at Contently, Inc is going around pretending to have Coronavirus in order to get domains for cheaper? Pretty messed up, if true.

Looks like it.

Its completely naive to believe anything like that though.

Not sure why the OP has shared this really, "look guys, I got ripped off", took me 2 mins to find out the owner of the domain and he probably should have done that before starting this thread.

That should have been a $10,000+ sale right there.

Yeah, very fair point. I'm trying to parse OP's message and I shouldn't jump to any conclusions based on their phrasing. Could have just as easily been a "With this pandemic going on, my budget is lower" versus "My family is suffering from coronavirus but I really want this domain," lol.

Maybe he was not the end user or from that company. But either way i agree i should not have trusted so easily. Lesson learnt.

I live by the mantra "buyers are liars"

But still using your family and a global pandemic to get a cheap deal is pretty reprehensible - if it happened to me I would be on their Social Media page asking why they felt this was an acceptable bargaining tactic....

Just me maybe......

I don't think so it was them, i have researched the buyer name on google and see his profile on linkedin and FB account from the same place as it was in the ip address, with this i believe the original buyer has likely flipped the domain to them. either way i should not have trusted so easily.

I once sold a name to a guy who did not try to hide his information that much. When I researched it was easy and even the phone he provided matched his own and I called. I sold the name to a price I was happy with. He was starting a project which was taking some time. After more than six months, a partner of his sent me an email, saying he wants to buy the name for a school project. I have the email still. I told him , I searched and found out he might be related to him. I told him dont try these tactics with me but the name is already with your partner who acquired it for a price I am happy with. That was the last I heard from him. I talked to the buyer and he said that someone he forgot to share the name with his partner and would tell him. I have good relations with that guy for being honest than his partner.

So @DnFolk can for sure learn from this because he could have said, lets do installments of 500 per month for a period of 24 months. That is 12 K. You could also saying for straight buying, you get can it for $7 K. See the difference of 5K? That could make them buy it saying in the long run, they save 5K if they have to pay every month 500.

Why not start your own registrar and let us see how far you will fair? You think it is easy, don't you?

Every now and then, I see this ridiculous utterances. Nobody is begging you to use Epik because I can't understand what correlation @DnFolk thread has with Epik.

If you do not want to use Epik, others will.

But I'd frankly rather die than start a registrar and hosting company and then offer it up as a safe haven for neo nazi groups.

If you want to give money to such a business then that's on you.

I don't always lower my asking price, but when I do, I prefer a strong roi. I do remember to delete past sales from marketplaces right after selling, just good practice. Good return on hand reg, check, now onto the next :)

Maybe these staff badges can be reworked into seperate business accounts or something, they may be hurting more than helping hmm

Well you should spend more than 2 minutes searching next time.
It's clearly that the owner of contentmetric.com is just too lazy and scrapping content from Contently.com
The website is still under construction , you can see Our founders and also the social links and it's clear that the domain has nothing to do with Contently.com
You can't just assume and start attacking people , and I didn't like that you're bringing Epik into this , even that all what @DnFolk did is being a nice person , which apparently from what I have seen from your replies is weird nowadays.
