Domain going to domain broker on GoDaddy instead of close out?

Watching an expired domain on godaddy the owner seemed to have no interest in. Using a third party whois service to avoid hitting the page too many times.
It went into the public auction part 5 days ago, was meant to end this morning but was extended for a further 24 hours instead of the close out auction (another 5 days). Guessing that’s due to me putting any interest in it.

went to add to cart but didn’t buy, later going to the domain directly said it was unavailable even though it was in my cart. removing it from my cart didn’t fix its availability.

now the auction part has disappeared and replaced with godaddy offering to be a domain broker for like $70 & commission

I’m presuming the owner didn’t suddenly renew it as the Whois hasn’t been updated but godaddy are preying on my interest here? Has anyone had any experience just waiting it out instead of giving into godaddys demands?
Domain would be nice to have but not worth it at the “brokered” price!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
So was it in closeout when you added to cart? I've waited on auction domains to go to closeout and found they were picked up by api account holder perhaps, I've also added closeouts to cart and waited to checkout to find they weren't available anymore. There is a large pool of buyers there and decent names go quick, if I feel the domain won't make it to closeout I'll put in an expired auction bid around 5-6 mins in hopes no one else bids but that's rarely the case with bots around. I've also found names available again in closeouts after saying they're not available and showing the broker option, perhaps the name was in someones cart at that time. Had one auction name renewed or canceled with 5 mins left on clock, didn't think this was possible anymore but it's godaddy..

It should have been in close out but the public auction was extended 24 hours - probably due to me showing interest in it.

It’s a year old domain, was never used and I personally don’t think there’d be much interest in it, the views on the auction page are all me and I doubt the owner would want to renew it if they haven’t yet. Hearing you’ve seen domains go into close out after being listed as broker is what I was hoping to hear! Will hold off and hope for the best then.

thanks

I don't like this registrar right now, and it's a hassle to transfer a domain name on it right now

There is a lot here not making sense, GoDaddy auctions have a closing time and get extended by a bid. They don't get extended by 24 hours.

Was it a public auction or expired? Public do not go to closeouts.

GoDaddy is offering

What is Domain Broker Service?

If you want to purchase a domain name that’s currently registered by someone else, we can help. Our Domain Broker Service provides a personal domain broker who will reach out to the current domain name owner, negotiate a sales price within your budget and facilitate the domain name sales transaction, all while keeping you anonymous. Our brokers are domain experts and will do everything they can to make sure they get the domain you want at the lowest price for you.

That would not be offered if the domain name was in auction.

Exactly my thoughts, seems to be contrary to what I’ve read about the process.

To clarify it was an expired domain - not put up by owner.

It was in expired domain auctions, end date was the 25th but when it hit the end time it somehow got extended exactly 24 hours. No bids on it, just my interest (unless clicking through counted) which was odd.

It mentioned the domain broker process shortly after I had attempted to purchase the domain (gone all the way through checkout but quit). Doesn’t seem to actually be brokering though but trying to get quick extra cash for godaddy.

Domain has since gone back to public auction (no brokering) and should hit the close out section later today so guess it’s just a waiting game from here.

This makes no sense.

When there is no bid, it goes to closeout.

Remember, that is GD expiration process. You checked whois, I assume you are 100% sure that the domain is at Godaddy, not other registrar, because other registrars have their own process too, where domain owners can renew their names after the 30 days.

Many people watch the auctions. If it is a decent name people will buy it.

What is the domain name? You don't have to share it today, but would be helpful to share it in the next few days. Otherwise, this makes no sense, worse without knowing the name to verify.
