Seemingly text-only email containing blocked content

I received an 'offer' email today in my yahoo account which seemed to contain only a small amount of text.

When the email was received in my email client however (Thunderbird) it had some 'remote content' blocked.
Note that the text contained no links, no URLs of any kind, no images etc.

Sender used Gmail (naturally)

Can anyone explain how can a strictly plain text email contain something that can be blocked?

thanks

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Looks like they added tracking to the email to see if you read it. Just look at the domain it says it blocked its an email tracker for gmail.

Thanks for that.

edit: sorry, just noticed you said tracker *for* gmail.. not gmail's tracker.

So, it's a tracker then.

Beware of email viruses and don't open messages you don't know
