Not sure how many of you are aware of this, but I just located the old website used for a domain that I recently registered; LeaseAChef.com by going to WaybackMachine.com or web.archive.org/web.

A lot of you have shared the domain research tools you use, and I just thought I'd share this. Sometimes you can get a feel from Hosterstats that there was a business behind the domain you hand reg'd, and it's nice to know how they promoted their business. Enjoy!

ps. it may also help you to either develop or sell your domain.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Just keep in mind that you do not own any content, graphics, etc that were on the previous site. Just because you bought the domain, doesn't mean you own the previous site or anything that was on it.

You can choose to care about this or you can choose to not care about it. I just wanted to put it out there for anyone reading this. You're stealing the content. In some cases, the previous owner will care and will come after you and will be correct in doing so. In some cases, they won't notice or won't care.

Thanks...i'm sort of a lay attorney who knows the difference between right and wrong. I just thought it was really cool to learn you could locate old websites that may have been associated with a domain you may own. I just learned about this a few days ago, and have already used it to add value:xf.wink: As another example, researching the domain GourmetStaffing.com i discovered the previous owner and actually spoke with him last night at the phone number that was listed on his website. He was in the "staffing" business, however his business partner died soon after he had registered this domain and he was never able to get this part of his business off the ground.

Anyway, i see where you have a phone number associated with your domain and I may try to call you later. All the best, and good luck:xf.smile:

You cannot use any of it other than be inspired.

I get that....what makes you think I'd actually copy someone else's website? I know there are a lot of plagiarist's in the world, but I'm not one of them....didn't i say I know the difference between right and wrong? Already I got a phone number off the website for GourmetStaffing.com that could turn out to be HUGE:xf.wink:

Again, my whole point was to share my finding to help other domainers add value to their domains. It's already added value to mine:xf.smile:

Hey I just want to clarify, in case it seemed like I was implying that OP was doing or suggesting anything unsavory with these previous websites, I didn't mean to, and after a closer reading that's clearly not OP's intention here at all and I jumped the gun a bit and could have phrased my first message better.

In SEO/webmaster circles, it's a lot more common to see the suggestion to rebuild old sites using Wayback, so I connected some dots that weren't present here.

My intention was just to inform anyone who thinks about rebuilding old sites using wayback, to be careful about ownership of the content. Not directed at anyone in particular, just in general, since a lot of people seem to get that idea when they find wayback :)
