I'm not sure that marketing and memorability is an issue for most of us independent domainers. For most of us, our website will simply serve as a professional front to capture traffic generated by our domain names.

Aahhh, you're probably right. I think what threw me off was the verbiage. The word 'marketplace' suggests a certain business structure and presentation. Had he used domain 'showcase', as you're suggesting, I may have responded differently. Forgive me for being overly technical.

I realize that the vast majority of domainers rely on the major domain marketplaces for promotion and sales. That may very well be the case with OP.

i wanted to avoid “domain” for this reason.
selling brands, not domains, technicall names”

feel “domain” limits —and only two syllable one

I was damn serious to start a business structure like Dan and had funds around 35-40k to make everything and later go with marketing boost and all, just this covid thing made all things changed.

Nice idea. That kind of funding doesn't get you very far if you want to build something like DAN though.

@NameDeck

It's will if it's done wisely, I have worked for companies and I have seen them growing good with 50k budget, trust me.

It's more than enough to build a decent proof of concept but the biggest issue are the overhead costs. Think 24/7 support, dev team wages. Hardware, licenses. You could outsource that cheaply but you'll burn through it fast if you're paying people reasonable money.

You'll need to set up a registrar as well. That's not cheap and definitely not quickly done. If you want to challenge companies like DAN that is.

Not that I want to discourage you! Power to entrepreneurs! Reach for the stars.

@NameDeck

You are right, I tell you few things, it's not about the development/design or cheap labor to provide fast ticket support and do many other things, the API can be made and a lot can be done, it's all about the marketing, and I think the most important part is market, the more market you do the better the results are.

I am seriously thinking to have something like this and the best thing is that you can have a better thing developed after looking at a current system and can always go one step ahead on what the others are providing to compete with a greater level.

So how did covid stop you? This is an idea that can be implemented remotely, right?

Saving money just in case you know... as soon things started to get better I can jump and get the whole thing to my developers :)

True, I bought some properties tho, also Recons, I wanted to do it really just wish I had a partner too, it's like I have a family too and they need sometimes time, so If I had a partner I would have already started in next few mins :)

I agree, it is not easy. It is also hard to find partner for your own idea. Much better when it happens naturally, when two like minded people that spend a lot of time together discuss and come to common idea, passion. But still possible. You'd have to do all the background, calculations, projections etc. and have people to buy in with their money and/or sweat.

True, that's right because down the road you have to do many things to get better and you always needed like-minded people so get things done fast and nicely, I tell you one thing I made a plan .. on a paper .. whiteboard and make calculations and a lot of work but then I stopped because I have to give it full time.

After I make many calculations I was amazed how fun is to see money coming/going without you selling anything :) and just keeping the system health up and all automated .. with a load of data and TRUST me it's not that hard as what 99% of people think it is :)

Using the word "legit" in a sale site may be a bit iffy as it is often associated with counterfeit goods. The other thing to remember is that you are establishing a brand which will be used by people outside the domaining business. As Grilled pointed out above, it makes abbreviations like "bin" and "dn" tricky.

How do you feel about “stud,” @jmcc?

Surprised ComNetOrg .com didnt more votes, Check out the stats, it’s my only Alexa-Ranked and the oldest out this list; registered in 2003.

Thanks all for the time, and valuable insight!

Thank you all for your valuable insights!

I’m humbled; Thinking of having another poll with less names that allows multiple choices.

I voted for the pencil options but I like legit name and lqat as well. Stud is easy to remember (I used to be one :xf.smile:) but it may be off-putting to some...you never want to limit your market to any degree.
