advice Where do you sell your domains?

Hi all, I just started domaining and have about 14 domains I want to sell. I have listed on GD and Sedo but I want to gain more exposure for my domains.

Where else do you recommend I sell my domains?

Also, is auction with no reserve a good option?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I list on Afternic and Sedo and I use DAN for landers/type-in traffic. I've gotten sales via all 3 venues.

I'm thinking of using my own landers soon, to bypass the 9% fee (+3% for paypal payout), since I don't think Dan really generates any traffic/leads for the names that wouldn't have found the name anyways (I could be wrong about this.) Paying 15-20% to Afternic or Sedo stings too, but in those cases I know it's their vibrant marketplaces or their access to list within registrar search results that have generated the leads.

@Peak.Domains If you don’t mind, do you list for BIN at both afternic and sedo? Or is it BIN at one platform and make offer at other?

The reason I ask is that there might be overlapping registrars in the Afternic fast transfer / sedo MLS programs. Unsure if listing at BIN in both places would cause a conflict.

thanks in advance

@synecdoche I think that's a concern everyone has at some point, and the general consensus seems to be that it's just very, very unlikely that you'll end up selling the same domain at a BIN price on the same day from two different venues - and in the event that it does happen - you just explain to the second venue that it had already sold earlier that day, and they should understand.

I guess if you have a name that matches a word or phrase that suddenly goes viral or something, that could increase the chances of two sales on different platforms on the same day - but I think it's incredibly rare for this to happen.

I have had names priced at both, and priced on a DAN lander too, and had the name sell for a higher price via Afternic than it was listed at Sedo for, and also a higher price than it was listed on my own lander for - which tells me that sometimes, the buyers don't even visit the domain before buying it.

I'm actually in the process of re-listing all of my names, and I'm leaning towards BIN at Afternic and Sedo, and "Make offer" on the Dan landing pages.

Thank you for the detailed response. Will try this out sometime in the future.

For now, I have segregated my domains on basis of extension. Selected extensions I place on afternic, and the remaining on sedo. All have a DAN lander. This helps me understand if a particular platform has a better affinity towards certain extensions.

Sounds like a plan!

But I wonder, wouldn't having every name listed everywhere, rather than dividing them like this, give you more complete data?

Let's say you have 100.co's that are on Afternic, 100.net's that are on Sedo...

You sell 3 .co's on Afternic, and 5 .net's on Sedo

That really doesn't tell you how .net could sell on Afternic, or how .co could sell on Sedo, right?

Unless I'm misunderstanding something. Wouldn't having all extensions listed everywhere be the way to see which extensions sell best on which platforms? It seems like it would be hard to compare which platform works best for any given extension when each extension is only on one of the platforms (+dan)?

You are correct. Listing domains at both places will definitely give more data points.

Some of the TLDs like info/xyz are not permitted in fast transfer at Afternic. Other extensions like eu/co.uk sell better at SEDO because of it being an European company. Hence, some of these extensions gravitate towards SEDO. However, it is better to replicate them on Afternic as well.
