We need .CYOU like we need premium-allocated registry domains. I mean there's already .icu which is a real humdinger isn't it, and now poised to present .cyou in coming weeks for GA.

And there is a .wtf yes there is. I smell money thrown into a washing machine with some of these extensions. Or maybe they're all just contracting out to the same CTO:

Just raging. :) Welcome your input on these new G shenanigans. Just a .fyi, the registry for the upcoming .cyou extension is the same that was advertising the .bond extension as a great investment for domainers (at $800 a pop who can argue :-/) and they operate .icu.

Why am I raging? Cause' these silly useless extensions undermine the silly useless extensions I've already invested in, mainly .ninja, .fyi, and .top. But hey the market will decide, once they wade through all the confusion and cross the finish line, back at square .one. Yes? And finally the market says screw it all let's just go with a typo long-tail hyphenated .com.

Another pointless and ridiculous extension...What else?

It would have made more sense as .cu

.cyou is dumb and confusing from the radio test point of view.

Yep and we don't need another, should have stopped at .xyz which would basically takes it all and combines it in a perfectly perfect nonsensical alphabetically-correct posture.

You've done well in this extension and don't mean to disparage it from a sales point of view at all. Kudos.

Even thru the raging and poking .fun, some surprising stats for these. At only ~7k domains reg'd, the .sucks still manages to pull in $1.4m/year revenue on it.

In fact, all these have brought in enough revenue to easily pay off the original 185k application fee, and cover the likely 5-10k additional fees per year. Not including operating costs, keeping marketing at a minimum if at all, guess some of these weirdly popular TLDs remain sustainable for the registries thus far.

Where .cyou hopes to find its base at is perplexing to me. But a quick roundup on previously mentioned, gleaned through Namebio, nTLDstats and ICANN wiki shows the madness has it's fan base. I think promos have a big part in the whole gig though, so the potential revenue is not totally accurate.

.wtf
• x2 sales totaling less than $500 since 2017
• ~20k current total reg'd domains, GA was in 2014
• potential of ~$440k/year revenue at $22/year reg fees

.sucks
• x1 sale totaling less than $500 since 2016
• ~7k current total reg'd domains, GA was in 2015
• potential of ~$1.4m/year revenue at $200/year reg fees

.xyz
• x100 sales totaling ~$125k since mid-2017
• ~3.2m current total reg'd domains, GA was in 2014
• potential of ~$28m/year revenue at $9/year reg fees

..icu
• x4 sales totaling ~$650 since mid-2018
• ~6.6m current total reg'd domains, GA was in 2018
• potential of ~$40m/year revenue at $6/year reg fees

.gdn
• x1 sales totaling less than $500 since 2016
• ~300k current total reg'd domains, GA was in 2016
• potential of ~$3m/year revenue at $10/year reg fees

Put in .gdn too cause that's another odd one that doesn't fit the mold in terms of proper readability. I suppose in the eye of the beholder, these are catchy in their own way. Perhaps that's part of the original intent behind some of these extensions.

But still. Already too many distractions from a long-term investors point of view, don't need any more.

Silly me. All this time I thought it meant something in Welsh.

No need to rage, new gTLDs were not allowed by the ICANN for domain name investing only but for real usage ;)
Certainly seems that way, doesn't it? And many of the one's targeted to us with the penny promos are mostly nonsensical, remotely making sense to some sort of gibberish gobbledygook between two drunkards. Which is why they need to be sold for next to nothing for anyone to consider buying.

.icyu err .cyou maybe has good intentions behind it, I'm sure, but really. Totally. Useless.

Silly me. All this time I thought it meant something in Welsh.
Ya. I was leaning towards Norse Code..

Classic business model, domainers are addicts (not all a profitable percentage) and will buy any garbage extension, thinking what they will do with all that money they will make. And I say that as someone mostly invested in .xyz
Fortunately I think most give it up after a year and $1k down.

Its a pretty shit extension that makes very little sense..

Having said that, I think there are still a bunch of names in this extension that are way better than most of the complete garbage that many NPer's hand reg daily in DawtCom (The king of trash hand registrations)
