it would be great to understand how these appraisal services operate on what they base the value recently my domain Geologian.com was appraised for 14000 USD on name worth which raised the question on what basis do these appraisal services price the domains some insight would be helpful
also is godaddy 1000$ appraisal the new 0$ ?

The best thing you can do is learn domain value yourself.

These automated appraisal tools are a waste of time. You will get anything from $50 or $50k, they just throw out random figures.

Thats why its best to not use them, its no use trying to figure what criteria it uses to appraise them. Its the biggest mistake people new to selling domains make, they get a $1K or $10K appraisal and then they believe thats what their name is worth.

i don't think that there appraisal is accurate but still there must be a method to appraise it can't just be random

If you can get a $50 appraisal from Estibot and then a $50K appraisal from another one, do you really think there is any reliable criteria.

You will need to ask Godaddy, nobody will know the full criteria it uses.

isn't the owner of epik a member here ?
another odd thing i noticed when you try appraise domains that might have trademark issues it shows on estibot and epik which means that there is a system in place

Epik uses Estibot's appraisal system - I'm pretty sure they have an agreement of some sort.

Estibot values names mainly based on search volumes. The more a word / keyword is searched, the higher the domain's value.

Nameworth probably relies on search volumes too, but to a lesser degree.

GoDaddy - from what I've seen, their appraisals first take into consideration similar sales. Which isn't always the best method. And, in fact, no automatic appraisal is "best."

i noticed estibot and epik being very similar but i will have to disagree with you in regard of them valuing it based on search volume i have appraised domains with words that are so much less popular than others and got a very higher value i think other things factor much more in there appraisal (not sure what it is would like to find out) also would be interesting to know at what they base there .net or other extensions appraisal

I oversimplified Estibot's methodology, indeed. Here's what they say about how they do it:

https://www.estibot.com/methodology

Anyway, you're giving all this too much thought and it's not worth it. Most domainers don't value automatic appraisals (and for a good reason):

The assessment is inaccurate and can only be used as a reference
