question What domains losing their "aging" when you transfer out to new registrar?

So a .de shows as a new registration date when transferred? I had no idea.

looks like it. never knew. I transferred a domain from Wild West to Godaddy and lost 2 years on it.

since then never transferred it out. it was like a reset.

I want to know if there are other domain extensions out there where this happens and why do registrars not tell you or scare your or warn you not to transfer it out or else lose the aging on the domain to their benefit i.e. you stay and renew.

right now I'm looking to transfer out .xxx domains but have this feeling the "aging" will reset on them.

anyone know? sent an email to the current registrar but no reply yet.

.de domains do not have a creation date or anything similar in the whois record. They only have "last changed" date and that changes when you update the whois record (change in nameservers, change of address, ...)

is this a new development or has it always been like this? I think if this is the case then in the whois won't show registration date but at the very least in my registrar account it will tell me when it was registered yes? or no? because I think where I saw the registration date discrepancy was within my registrar account.

As far as I can remember (10+ years), .de never had a creation date in the whois. Only the last changed date.

I think you are right. but should the date of registration change within your registrar account? not talking about the whois data.

I'm saying when I did a transfer the date the domain was registered was changed to the date it was transferred effectively resetting the clock on the domain. losing value immediately.

Does it really matter what it shows? I always use hosterstats to check .de domain history. If it didn't drop, the age is there. I think people who seriously care about the age of a .de domain know how to research it.

.xxx is not a cctld so I'd be surprised if the age resets (cctld's can have quirky rules/outcomes). Why do you think the age would reset for .xxx? Interested too because I've had one since 2013, but never sold/transferred but it would sure be weird for a generic top-level to have happen.

Interesting indeed.. sucks for sure if age is important to you. I've always been a proponent of age on a quality name when it comes to legacy extensions. But as far as value, I'd imagine most buyers outside of collectors don't care too much about age.

The .XXX is a gTLD so the age should remain if it is transferred between registrars. The age is zeroed when the domain name is deleted and reregistered. The ccTLDs have their own ideas about what should go in a WHOIS record and some of them, like DEnic, have a very thin WHOIS with minimal data.

Probably not, you just transfer the registrar, not re-register the domain name

damn, I also realized this now( with an unnecessary cost!).. someone please answer OP's original question.. what other domains are like that? .nl?
