It looks like Dynadot doesn't allow expired domains to be unlocked, and hides their authcodes. I think this is illegal. It is a great registrar, but this is unacceptable.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Have you contacted them by opening a ticket? You can get the auth code before it expires but not sure what the process is after.

I could, but it takes time, they need to wake up etc....

I agree its an unsavory practice which has been brought up before to @Dynadot. I just can’t remember why they do it or how this is solved.

You could have posted it,.. it doesn't completely solve the problem. Dynadot should fix this problem, they are violating Icann rules.

Our team can usually remove the expired flags to allow you to unlock an expired domain and access it's authorization code, we'd just need to ask you to send an email to our team at [email protected], or contact them using our live chat service, and they'd be happy to help you further with that.

A separate email for each domain? ... Meanwhile maybe you can also offer discounts so we actually renew instead of transferring.

You can include all of the domains in the same email and our team will be able to have those removed all at once. We do have some renewal sales ongoing but we're unable to offer as many renewal sales as registration sales unfortunately. You can find the TLDs currently on sale for renewals here:

If a domain expires what will be the grace period to renew at Dynadot? what will be grace period to transfer out from dynadot to other registrar?

Thanks!

We offer a 40-day grace renewal period on most TLDs, but that does vary. You can find the grace renewal period for each TLD we offer here, under the 'Renew' column:

https://www.dynadot.com/domain/tlds.html

Our team can remove the expired flags from domains up until the last three days of their grace renewal period.

So I have been a regular @Dynadot user, until now. The fact that I have to request for every expired domain I flip or want to move to another registrar is going to be a hassle. Combined with some of the other issues this is a tipping point for me... I am sure I will still do business there but a hell of a lot less.

I do not understand the motivation to distinguish yourself from the competition by creating unneeded roadblocks to simply doing normal domaining business. A roadblock that your competitors do not create...

The cost of having your people unlock every domain and ticking off your busy customers should outweigh the justification. Maybe not, maybe the expired auctions pay for this...

Thank you for the feedback @Bookman334, our team are always looking at ways we can improve and this policy in particular has been discussed recently. Any feedback is greatly appreciated and will always be passed on to our team.

@Dynadot
Please add the possibility to unlock and get AUTH code via API... as I can do with other registrars.

Thank you @Jurgen Wolf, our team received a similar request previously and have been looking into the possibility of allowing auth codes to be accessed via the API, I'll pass your request on to them too. At this time we don't have any updates on if that will be possible unfortunately.
