In case you missed it, Facebook likely acquired the domain Rooms.com for an undisclosed fee very recently. The news was first mentioned by myself on Twitter and first covered on Elliot Silver's (@EJS) DomainInvesting.com. This acquisition comes as Facebook released its Zoom rival, Messenger Rooms.

Here are this week's Top Topics.

Where .COM Is Not King

Globally, .COM is considered the king of all domain extensions. With over 150 million .COM domains registered, it's the extension of choice for most. However, are there countries around the world where .COM is not king?

That is the question being asked in this discussion. Domain investors from around the world have responded. From my own perspective in the UK, a higher percentage of smaller business use .CO.UK rather than .COM, where are many larger companies prefer .COM.

How Popular Is the "Hub" Keyword?

Most of us can name at least one domain with the word "Hub" in it. Since this is a family-friendly blog, I'll give you the example of GitHub.com, the popular development platform. On the surface, it seems that "Hub" is a widely used keyword, but is it a keyword that investors can profit from?

Here, domainers are discussing the "Hub" keyword and their own experiences of domains they've sold with that keyword. If you're considering registering or acquiring any "Hub" domains, you may want to check out this discussion first.

This Danish Company Paid $100,000 for CoolShop.com

You may not be familiar with the name Jacob Risgaard, but Danish readers will undoubtedly know the name since Jacob is one of the investors on Løvens Hule, the Danish version of Shark Tank. Aside from his TV role, Jacob is the co-founder of CoolShop, a large webshop operating in Scandinavia and some of Europe.

According to a recent article discovered by investor Michael Bilde (@Embrand), Jacob's company paid a fee of $100,000 to acquire the CoolShop.com domain name after creating a plan to expand CoolShop's business. The full story, which involves a Texas tattoo artist and some colorful language from Jacob, is available in the discussion.

56.com Cost At Least $7.2 Million

Investor George Kirikos routinely discovers domain transaction details in SEC filings that would never otherwise have come to light. This time, the revelations center around the 56.com domain name. 56.com is home to one of the largest video sharing websites in China, the site is a subsidiary of Sohu, a Chinese Internet media company.

According to George, Sohu acquired the 56.com domain name and website content for $25 million, but it seems that from the SEC filing, Sohu values the 56.com domain extremely highly. At least $7.2 million, in fact. This information cannot be charted at DNJournal, but it does act as a prominent example of the value that large companies place on key domain names.
