Just put Googol.com in your browser, it has no site

to see who owns a domain and when it was registered

hmmm wonder what its being used for ..if owns it im sure it still be worth millions if was to be sold ..but im sure that would never happen due to the very easy sounding similarity i guess and would cause chaos!!

I was referring to Googol.com, this is not owned by Google. Googel is just owned by them as a defensive reg, it would get a lot of type-in traffic

it’s not price so much as Musk’s Perseverance.

Musk tried buy Tesla.com for over a decade.

Musk said in 2018 cost $11 million, and took "amazing effort," get Tesla.com off Grossman.

Musk also had to buy the trademark for Tesla, bought from Brad Siewert in 2004 for $75,000.

And dont forget, in October 2002, PayPal was acquired by eBay for US$1.5 billion in stock, of which Elon received US$165 million. Before the sale, Elon was the company's largest shareholder, owning 11.7% of PayPal's shares. :xf.smile:

hmm thats interesting.. look at this :
The Creators Are Also Known As the Paypal Mafia!!
The company came into fruition when some employees left eBay to start their own thing. They’re then called the PayPal Mafia, which come to think of it, is pretty apt. Up until today, people still call the founders Paypal Mafia. .. pretty cool name haha

Yes the word googol existed long before Google, meaning 10^100, a very big number :xf.smile:. It was invented in 1920 by a 9 year old who had a mathematician uncle. Hmmmm that is a story I must share with my grandchildren!

As the story goes, the early founders of Google got the spelling wrong when they were registering the domain name but it seems to have worked out well for them :).

While it is super cool to own one of the oldest names, back in extremely early days you did not need to actually pay for them, but did need to provide by registered mail, proof of your association with that name, as I understand it. Then a bit later it went to the register two years at $50? per year, which in dollars back then was a lot. That is why some of the earliest domain registrations were not what we might consider the most valuable terms today. Not only a long time ago, but it had to be the name of something. Still ultra cool to own any of them.

Good morning,

So technically, does that mean that Google could have been issued with a UDRP as their name was confusingly similar to Googol?

I think they were lucky and I would have awarded against them.

Live and learn.
