I think it has a chance to be a really good thing for .us. On the other hand, with so many extensions under their management, I would admit there is a bit of wishful thinking on my part.

Here is to wishful thinking: @GoDaddy is a large well known entity with the capacity to utilize data and target .us to specific regions and buyers. They also can market as an alternative to .com using examples like zoom who I think started out as a .us, as the selection for one word in .us so vast. Same with info and biz for one worders. .us might be real attractive to local businesses whose primary market is regional. But is there enough profit to justify marketing compared to other ext? Opportunity cost may be to high to justify investing much in .us.

FYI interesting article by @DomainNameWire today with insight into GD history including this line
“In 2007, it partnered with Afilias (also a partner on .me) to try to wrest control of .us from Neustar. Its bid failed.”

.US was probably more valuable at the time, however the article also shows how GD was able to help .me increase market share.

GD will also own .biz as well. Although this is a .us forum the .biz content was insightful.
Andrew points out the price restrictions lifted on .biz but due to GD using domains to sell other services, they may not raise prices as high in .biz . I have read interesting comments on biz including the branding specialists who wrote the book “hello my name is awesome” wishing .biz was accepted more.

Additional thoughts: anecdotally there appears to be increased reseller interest in .us and others like @Silentptnr has made positive comments about the future of .us on this forum (which I took seriously and have profited from, thanks Silentptnr!). Possibility @Bob Hawkes can look at recent numbers in .us to see if that is the case.

As GD takes over, I am more optimistic about .us

@shojib probably not, .us is established, .website not so much, I have had 80 .website for 9 months, no interest, hardly any traffic. When considering a extension, first go to namebio and search just that extension for sales in the last year. I have also had good luck when buying .us & .info to go to dofo.com and search the keywords if all major extensions are taken I will consider buying that name. The best thing I did was complete the @DNAcademy course, I am purposely more speculative than the course teaches, but am much wiser in my choices. If your short on $$ instead of a.website, go to expireddomains.net and search for a better name in a well known extension.

@shojib on namebio there are only 23 .website over $100 and 15 under $100 since 2015. With .us you have 135 over $100 and several thousand under $100 in the past 12 months.

Others in the past year over $100 (under 100 if I looked it up). Remember thousands of domains are sold but never reported on namebio. I got a little curious here so there is a variety. Even though I have a variety of extensions my goal is to ween down to com, org, and select mostly one word info, us and some biz. The math here supports buying a good .com over any other option.

So I bought a lot of ngtld before dnacadamy training, most under $5 for first year the few I have sold have been for 20-50 each (code/flights, use/systems use/recipes recon/games sexin/kitchen lotion/cool all on sedo) I sold cheap because renewal cost (another huge reason to stick with com and benefit of .us) and opportunity cost. The money for renewals should pay for names I am most likely to sell or keep in my pocket. I most likely will let most of them expire and move on. However I I have registered a couple like fiat/money and accidentlawyer/live as I think fiat money will increase in search as people question USA economics and more attorneys will move towards telemedicine type of consultation.

Why more speculative? Call it >50 crisis, but cheaper than a unused boat, divorce or a empty beach house no one can rent due to pandemic. I currently have peers in all those categories, so I will stick with 10 year domain plan!

Nice list. To be frank with you, some of your one worders here dont seem commercially viable....and they are .us. If you'll use them for your projects/personal, no problem, but if you plan to sell, watch out and sell as soon as u get a chance.

Not agree with you. All .us from my list have commercial value , personal value (for somone) etc..+ are OLD
Do you think skit .us have commercial value ? No - but i sold with 499 GBP & could get more but the buyer moving faster than me on Sedo & accept BIN price before me to changed ( after recive mail from him 'How much for skit . us' ? )
So imo & not just imo i made more much much much more money from .us than .com
I think even to focus only .us but want to see what will happen with GD so i guess on Q4 i will have a idea...hope until to stil be alive

I have weep .us & weeps .us , bump .us & bumpers .us , medicalschool.us & medicalschool .us etc..
It's good to have control . If someone want singular must pay high price because don't have other choice to reg. for example the plural
