Thanks to Mr. Schwartz for disclosing time of negotiation, minimum price, where many NDA (buys their silence) this helps, way should be.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Notice how Rick isn't clarifying the sale in his Twitter post....

He was asked multiple times what type of deal it was and what the 1.5 million min value meant. He didnt respond to any of the comments when asked.

Im sure its a great deal for him and 100% congrats to him.

But the $1.5 sale misdirection isnt cool.

If this being a $1.5m sale is a misdirection, I ask that you revisit 4th grade math class (or simply drop your willful ignorance).

If you sell a domain for $10,000 but stretched out in 10 payments of $1,000 — did you sell the domain for $10,000 or $1,000?

The answer is $10,000. You sold the domain for $10,000.

If you don't think Rick will get his contractually obligated $1.5m, you're wrong; He will get much more.

If you don't think an AC repair company can make $millions, you're dreaming.

A family owned AC company can make $10m yearly in a single southern US city. I flipped houses and apartments, HVAC is big money.

It’s bluster. No clear declaration of what he sold it for, or if it even sold outright at all. Typical.

Was that the first domain alphabetically in his portfolio?

(for newbies) (y)
Hand registered for $35/yr (at that time)
How long does it take to sell (make a deal) for $1.5mm = 21+ years
Marathon, Patience, Turning down $xxK - $xxxK+ offers, etc.
Hmm...I am a larva 🙂

Rick traded something for $1.5m after 21 years doesn't mean everyone gotta wait for 21 years.

Gonna prove your statement not entirely true, someday before 21 years! 😉😁

This what makes people not give sales figure.

the inquisition, naysayers, and skeptics.

if you got a name as good as ACRepair, — good for you. you have a number try to attain.

What hand registrations? “max out credit card” Did u not hear@Lox?Rick held for 20 years? max credit, hold 20 yrs no 2 situations are the same. what might be 3 months for him, might take others longer, and more to even get right contacts.

You worry too much, this is a tough game,
we all find out the hard way, but Rick’s disclose should not be “meh”, but celebration, for him and the industry. (like it or not, boosts morale)

I mean, besides air conditioners... what does ACRepair stand for? I can't see it being 1.5 mil... most HVAC companies don't make that much per year??

I mean, I've seen titan domainers with domains like boiler repair serv... or something of that nature, and they're only asking for xxx,xxx or even high xx,xxx...

If it were an all-cash upfront deal, the price may have only been ie: $750k.

Since the company may not have had the cash on hand, it was drawn out into a larger price tag.

Rick probably owns a lot of real estate. This means he can get great deals on AC for his own properties, as well as earn a share by onboarding all his buddies that own real estate themselves. Smart deal.

You'd be surprised how much HVAC companies make. In Canada, those guys are some of the most busy high demand skilled workers.

Rick was also at the right place at the right time as domain name popularity was emerging. He saw a golden opportunity and registered many names that would in later years become highly desirable. Mad props to Rick.

If you don't think an AC repair company can make $millions, you're dreaming.

With how much money and time invested in it?! $10m yearly profit or turnover. Misleading by omission is what you did, just like Ricky.

Did you look at the website? It's a franchise by a unknown. In the franchise niche you need a solid reputation, brand that is know by millions, hard cash to invest in marketing.

"HORRIBLE!!! We told the guy we need a new A/C for a house for sale, price was not bad and they were referred by Home Depot. Their irresponsabilty cost us more than $1000 and an emotional toll. We had been sick for all the stress this cause us."

"This is a complete scam and shady place. This company would do better in acting than they are at repairing your AC. I had them scheduled to come out and clean my AC unit that was leaking. They told me the AC didn't need cleaning (what I paid to have done) and refused to clean the unit.
They quoted me $650 for gas, freon, & a "leak seal." I had another guy come out from a different company and tell them that is a complete sham and the outside unit needs no work. Then he took pictures of my indoor unit and what do you know, completely filthy. Rust was dripping out from the pipes and overflowing ruining my drywall."

You will go in a franchise with Air Pros with their 16 yelp reviews?
NEVER!!!
They don't bring extra value to your business.

End of the story

it would be interesting to know what the expectations of the CEO who bought that domain.
If I ware him, the last thing I would do would be to spend 8 / 9 figures (LOL!!) for a domain name and have 0 benefits.
I could understand it if I had concrete advantages (high rank in search engines, AMAZING backlinks profile) and so on.
At the end, in the google eyes a domain that have been redirect for 21 years (AKA abused) will be heavily sandboxed for 3 / 6 / 12 months or maybe forever (and make the domain unusable).
I still don't understand why people still think and act as we're still in the 90s.
With 8/9 figures of budget I had buy a new, clean, unused domain and spend that budget in SEO / SEM / Marketing / Social promotions / backlinks purchase.
And, with 9 figures of budget, they can rank #1 EVERYWHERE for AC repair.
Will see.

Header is misleading. Apt headline would be "Rick sells ACRepair.com for potential 1.5M"

From what I found on Whois.com the domain ACRpair.com is still with Rick Schwartz
If there is any changes with this details soon, then, it meant he sold the name.

I saw the resale values in past of aircon names precedence on keyword as first paying excessive has tuned this domain industry. Hence why i bought above.

After looking at the website Im going to assume the domain wasn't sold at all.

Most likely Rick went into a contract with the company for use of the domain in return for a piece of the business profits.

Looks to me like its a partnership rather then a domain sale.

Still looks like a great opportunity and congrats to Rick on the partnership.

But I would venture to say this was not a domain sale....

“Minimum Value of $1.5M”
if anythin I undersold him; should title “1.5M+
literally, says $1.5M worst case.

$1.5M value, what Rick shares, appreciate.
“Misdirection”? better than “6 figure” nonsense; disclosed actual #; with sense of structure.
Happy him; wouldnt ask to give anything more. This industry needs more to share like Rick.
It’s what i admire most about him, shares.

are you ngtld fan?

acrepair.com does not rank in top 100 on google for ac repair / ac repairs searches.
Good move spend 1.5M (maybe more) and your site is NOWHERE.
Good move.
I repeat myself

With 8/9 figures of budget I had buy a new, clean, unused domain and spend that budget in SEO / SEM / Marketing / Social promotions / backlinks purchase.
And, with 9 figures of budget, they can rank #1 EVERYWHERE for AC repair.
