Are you going to be buying more hyphen .COM domains in late 2019?

Just sold sushi-man.com from an Epik SSL lander for $4200. This is one of Epik's O&O domains. I don't normally report sales but these days we are routinely asking for $10K+ for good hyphen .COM names and seeing sincere engagement.

The great gTLD experiment has been run. I now routinely sell even ccTLD registrants are upgrading from their ccTLD to .COM if they can afford it. I was late to acknowledge it but the risk-reward equation for speculators overwhelmingly favors .COM.

When it comes to hyphenated .COM, SEO is your friend. I recommend to use SSL landers but any SEO lander will probably do the trick to drive inquiries.

What type of business do you think will buy these domain names?

Good afternoon,

Just a quick question. Why does everything have to be about making money?

The answer to your question is probably absolutely not one single company. Why would they?

I registered these names in a vain hope of having them re-direct to WHO website but I don't know how to do this as I'm not too knowledgeable about these things.

Maybe you know and would be kind enough to tell me how to do so.

It is also subliminal messaging as someone who see my post might think twice about going out and heeds the message contained within the domain name.

Not everything has a tangible value and if this saves one person then it is priceless.

I also feel better as I am doing something for humanity rather than exploiting it.

I know your comments are meant in a positive light and although you're not a fan of my domain names I usually have a plan in mind.

They don't always make sense. Heck, they don't even make sense to me sometimes.

Good luck and keep well and remember:

Just got back from a refreshing bike ride...

Why does everything have to be about making money?
It doesn't. But when I'm investing in something – stocks, domains, etc. – I expect some kind of monetary return.

I registered these names in a vain hope of having them re-direct to WHO website but I don't know how to do this as I'm not too knowledgeable about these things.

Maybe you know and would be kind enough to tell me how to do so.

I don't know what website you're referring to, but if you by "re-direct" mean forwarding to another domain name then you simply go to the DNS settings and do a 301 or 302 forwarding. You just enter the desired URL to where you want any traffic redirected.

I know your comments are meant in a positive light and although you're not a fan of my domain names I usually have a plan in mind.

They don't always make sense. Heck, they don't even make sense to me sometimes.
Maybe you should skip the ones that don't make sense to yourself?

We're only allowed to exercise within 2 kms of home so I don't venture too far. It must be good to get out though.

I was referring to the World Health Organization and I think it would be a good idea to have my domains forwarding to theirs.

I'm sure I'll figure it out.

Keep safe.

I guess there's the chance that I could go down in history as the first person to sell a hyphenated .online domain name.
Possibly!

In new extensions in general, hyphens are really rare. Just 13 sales (if you exclude an IDN) in total listed in NameBio. Only 3 of them are $1000+, although a couple I really like as names 3-d.camera and t-shirt.club, although the highest value sale was basic-fit.fitness at $8934. To me that one seems a little redundant across the dot, but clearly someone liked it a lot.

While anything is possible in future trends, I think past sales do suggest we should be wary of any but the very best hyphenated names in new extensions. The one exception i might see would be for the German market with an extension somewhat in use in that market.

Until this discussion, I had not fully realized how rare new extension sales with hyphens are. Thanks for the post @Reddstagg and the stats re .online @DrJacoby. My bit of research as a result has made me realize I have personally made 7% of the new extension sales with hyphens listed on NameBio :xf.grin: (hint I did not have a very big payday).

Best wishes for all with and without hyphenated domain names.

I think hyphenated domains has no value on aftermarket.
e. g. City-Clinic.com has many websites with "city-clinic" but domain got zero bids on Namepros

Beg to differ, people seem to be buying hyphenated names on the aftermarket.....

https://namebio.com/

Do a search for .com and keyword " - " there where loads of results....

I sold a hyphenated .COM in the last couple weeks for $14K. It was probably a term that would have sold for $500,000+ without the hyphen.

However, I will say hyphenated sales are few and far between even for top quality terms that make sense.
That type of sale is an outlier.

Brad
Hi, could you help me sell mine? 😂

@ShackledMind...here's a couple more for you. How about...

Worthless-Troll.com or Brings-Nothing-to-The-Table .com

Could you have been any more narrow-minded or self-opinionated without actually contributing anything to this discussion or humanity in general.

This is obviously just your opinion and as you don't seem to have many, maybe you can share your pearls of wisdom and endless experience and tales of riches to those of us that are just trying to scrape by in this cruel world. Way to make someone feel sh1t. Hope you're proud of yourself you....

They are not to everybody's liking but most people have the good grace to keep their mouths shut and their fingers idle. I am sick and tired of keyboard experts who have nothing worthwhile to contribute to a grown-ups discussion other than bile and hate.

I will say this now. I hope you will come back to me at a future date and apologize to me when sales of hyphenated domains, domains with number and letters, domain hacks and new tlds increases and will in some instances outsell even .coms in certain areas.

Things are a changing round here y'all and you'd better strap yourselves in and enjoy the ride.

Now, if you want to be a man/woman/troll/alien/fish about things then why don't you come back on here and list some of your better domains so that you can show us amateurs how to do it.

Enjoy your journey.

Regards,

Reddstagg

And just to prove that some domains are subjective and not to everyone's taste, I recently had a domain that you class as horrible appraised by a well respected NP Member who stated that it could be sold for in the region of $2,000. Not bad for a $10 hand registration. 200 X ROI...not bad for an amateur who obviously doesn't know what he is doing. Must be doing something right eh?
