I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

Question of the Day:

Is it better to counter a $20 lowball bid or just ignore it?

On one hand, you never know who's bidding, but on the other no business is going to logically offer $20. So far, the most I've been able to get these nimrods up to is $150, so I'm leaning towards the "don't counter" side and hope they figure it out for themselves.

Has anyone ever been able to be a $20 lowballer to at least 4-figures?

I know @MapleDots would ignore them, but I personally don't mind entertaining them (at least for the time being).

Most of my $20 offers haven't gone anywhere but I did have one $50 starting-offer that I managed to get up to 1K. Other than that, the highest others went was up to 200-300 USD.

I also got another $20 offer on GD last week. It was a cannabis related domain I handregged 5 years ago. I countered at 1400 and they have since disappeared. I will likely revive the negotiations by submitting a slightly lower counter-offer eventually, but I'm hoping to at least get 1K (so I doubt i'll be successful).

If none of these $20 offers ever go anywhere, I will consider not responding and let them come back with a better offer (which they should do if they really want it). On the flipside, it could be beneficial to respond quickly to keep them interested, as they might have more than 1 domain in mind (and you might lose your chance if you ignore them).

no. all minimum bids now set @ $100. a while back i got a $30 bid @ gd, an hour later i got another for $35. he was trying to con me into thinking it was 2 bidders, hoping i would sent it to a 7 day auction. idiot. the last $XX bid i got i countered with $XX,XXX. i think he sh** himself.

Sure, 90% of the time, they're just testing you to see if you're stupid or desperate, I think when you use a sales platform its too easy for people to hide behind the anonymity and just throw out stupid offers. For most its basically a form of trolling. But not all are aware how they're coming across.

With a sales platform its too easy to just fire numbers back and forth. I find it best to get them into a conversation, which is why I prefer my own contact form which I can then respond to via email or even phone. Yes, it is more time consuming. But then you can have an actual conversation, extol the virtues of your name and thus justify the price, offer options like financing or leasing, etc...

So a simple lowball offer isn't something to completely not respond to. For one, now they're not even sure if you got the message, so they think there's no point in sending higher offers if you didn't even respond.

So I say respond respectfully and professional, you can be short and to the point. "Thanks for the offer, but I respectfully have to pass. This domain is worth significantly more than that and I'd much rather keep the domain than have $20". And add your price if you want to. At least you've acknowledged their message, and the negotiating door is still open. Use a template and it doesn't take much effort. Don't let it get to you.

I sold a domain this weekend for $400 USD via after Afternic DLS. It was a two-word .com that I handregged less than 10 months ago. I had recently reduced the price as I didn’t know if I wanted to renew it yet.

It’s not a .ca or a big sale but I thought I’d share as it may reassure some to know there is still life out there.

I think we should all share our offers and sales to help get an idea of what kind of action is happening during this crisis.

I've sold 2 domains via Afternic this year and both came after a price drop as well. Is there a monitoring tool to watch for price drops at Afternic (or elsewhere) or is this just a coincidence?

Nice. I don't know of any monitoring options at GD or Afternic so I assume it's a coincidence. I think i also lowered my price a couple weeks ago so the sale didn't happen immediately after.

I got my usual selection of GD lowballs, received a min-bid Sedo offer, and surprisingly, while I was adding a few domains yesterday night, I noticed that I had two outstanding broker requests on Afternic from the past few weeks.

My email is fine and correct on Afternic (nothing was in Spam) so I can only surmise they didn't go out correctly, but I responded on the site. Hopefully something comes from it, as I have had pretty good luck in that area lately (3 for 3).

I should add that it's probably not a coincidence that these domains sold at a lower price.

I'm thinking (i.e. hoping) domain sales will continue as usual, maybe even increase, but the overall sales price people are willing to pay will decrease.
And just a note that I am intending to go forward with the TBR List subscriptions very soon, so if anyone wants the Early Bird ongoing rate of $40 for 6 months, post on here to join the list. You join after, it's $50.

This will get you a Tuesday night TBR List email + an early bird access (probably 1-2 hours before publishing) to the TBR Leftovers and Results.

Anyone already on the list please forward me via PM an email you want to a) have the Paypal info sent and b) you want to receive the TBR List * TBR Leftovers link delivered to.

Thanks.

Hey everybody. As you may know, @DomainRecap has decided to go ahead with the paid subscription of his weekly TBR list next month.

Those who sign up early will get an ongoing rate of $40 for 6 months (i.e. the early-bird rate). Those who join afterwards will pay $50, which is still a great deal imo.

The subscription will get you a Tuesday night TBR List email AND an early bird access (probably 1-2 hours before publishing) to the TBR Leftovers and Results.

Below is the list of people who confirmed they will be signing up for the early-bird rate. If anyone wants to add their name to the list, please let @DomainRecap know and provide him with your email address:
  1. Esdiel
  2. Jaydub
  3. Poing
  4. Spex
  5. Nafti

To Be Released (TBR) Weekly .CA Picks for March 25, 2020

The .CA numbers have literally came back from the dead that was the "5K week", and now we’re once again comfortably above the 8K mark. The overall quantity is incredibly high, with tons of single- and multi-word options, but the LLL selection has dropped off the table. This week’s Top Picks list includes...

Damn. At Namespro I put a min bid on a last name that didn't make it in your list and I was the high bidder. So I thought I got lucky but I just checked and BareMetal got it.

Oh well, there's always next week

To Be Released (TBR) .CA Results & Leftovers for March 25, 2020

The TBR numbers increased well into the 8K range, a big departure from the 5K fiasco of 2 weeks ago, and although premiums were not prevalent, the sheer numbers were extremely high and probably resulted in the jump in selections. The Top 10 Picks included a few notable domains such as...

I know this is completely offtopic, I hope the mods will allow it considering the strange times. Canadians need us right now to stock their shelves.

I'm doing some sales prospecting for my carrier PacificCoast.ca

We are mostly stuck in the Lower Mainland. The grocery chains have their distribution centres (DC's) in Calgary,Edmonton,Regina. There is very little freight to move us east right now, no containers from China and the local manufacturers have shut down for COVID isolation. It costs about $700 in fuel from Vancouver to Calgary, the same to Edmonton and around $1100 to Regina.

We have 50 trucks, 80 trailers- tridems,tandems-reefers,heaters, dryvans and a dozen container chassis. Haacp certified. 60,000 sq ft of warehouse.

If you know anyone in logistics/supply please forward them my info. I don't post it on a public forum lightly.

To Be Released (TBR) Weekly .CA Picks for April 1, 2020

The .CA numbers may have increased for the 3rd week in a row, but it’s slim pickings in terms of truly premium domains. The quantity is a bit better than average, but most of the good stuff is relegated to the LLL camp, and overall this is still a step down from last week’s domain crop. This week’s Top Picks list includes...

Check out the LLLs!

It was pretty weak, but I guess everyone being at home drove up demand, as I couldn't even pick up any scraps.

144 picks on that list?

Hey, I didn't do bad today - the Top 7 picks were all from the Top Picks list
