Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

One thing is for sure...things will get worse before they get better.

Today we remember Italy, the country most devastated by this virus so far. You will recover, Italy 🙏 and so will the rest of the world!

Off Topic, but somewhat related.

Medicine stores in rural areas in Bangladesh had to do this for social distancing.

There are 22,180 deaths on this COVID-19 already, I really hope this doesn't get any worse than this.

New Orleans food banks almost out of food; says coronavirus will "define our generation"

Collin Arnold, director of the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, said coronavirus “is going to be the disaster that’s going to define our generation.”

Arnold told CNN’s Jim Sciutto that the city needs more personal protective equipment and ventilators for hospitals, but also could face a food supply shortage. Food banks today have enough food to last only another two days, he says.

The situation in Louisiana: There have been 827 coronavirus cases and 37 deaths in Orleans Parish. Arnold said Mardi Gras celebrations likely contributed to the spread of the virus. President Trump on Wednesday approved an urgent request for a major disaster declaration for Louisiana, which now grants the state access to federal aid as it combats the spread of Covid-19.

New Orleans food banks could run out of food in a week, but 'red tape' blocks access to stockpile

This is exactly the kind of shit that will lead to violence, rioting, looting..... Especially when the people know there's a stockpile of food out there that their leaders aren't allowing them to access.

Meanwhile, New Orleans medical workforce is greatly understaffed, and running out of equipment -- and this is just Phase 1. State officials have warned that hospitals could collapse by April 4.

With 1 in 6 workers under quarantine, New Orleans EMS to run lower-level ambulances

Mardi Gras is blamed for New Orleans coronavirus spread amid fears city with world's highest growth rate in cases will be next U.S. epicenter and hospitals could collapse in a week

Heartbreaking to see, I used to live in NOLA and that city is very close to my heart....

Cant see dr. Cant see chiropractor, dentists are out. Impossible to get thru to service canada. Cant go for f*cking coffee, ya jb, this happens every year. India locks down every flu season. slap the crap outa them mister funsky
I got multiple contractors coming in today to do reno’s in rental house here. The woman next to me is coughing like whooping cough, she works in a seniors home. If i dont have virus already i soon will.

First of all, mrfunsky or the other guy aren't slapping anybody, they've shown they're more the run away and hide type, simply because people have different opinions. That's a cowardly type behavior, no matter how many times they talk about slapping people. You have a lot or herd mentality, confirmation bias stuff happening.

Comparing things isn't saying they are those things. If I compare Kobe Bryant to Michael Jordan, I'm not saying they're the same, that doesn't make sense.

There is nothing wrong with comparing and contrasting, looking at other viruses, past pandemics etc.

Do nothing and shut it all down aren't the only choices here.

So the earlier story about the person under 18 dying from this isn't confirmed, they said it could be something else. So to this point, nobody under 20 has died from this here. If I point out many kids have died from the flu and the numbers, that's just a fact. Or it's pointed out the Swine flu affected more the younger crowd. And it's information that can be used to focus resources. That doesn't mean that this isn't an issue and there are problems.

The article Compassion just posted just confirms what I posted about Italy:

"More than 99% of Italy’s coronavirus fatalities were people who suffered from previous medical conditions, according to a study by the country’s national health authority."

"The average age of those who’ve died from the virus in Italy is 79.5. As of March 17, 17 people under 50 had died from the disease. All of Italy’s victims under 40 have been males with serious existing medical conditions."

So knowing that information, you can focus on more the elderly and those with previous medical conditions. That's literally 99%+ of the deaths. When you shut it all down, like some people in this thread want, there are ramifications. Economy, death, higher instances of spousal abuse, child abuse etc. When that gets brought up, people don't want to have that conversation, but it's a real thing.

If it's pointed out the CDC themselves said kids not going to school and staying home with their grandparents increases the risk, the confirmation bias crowd isn't touching that one.

If it's pointed out some countries have been successful combating this, without shutting it all down, that's not touched either.

New Virus Test Shortens Wait to 2.5 Hours From Two Days

Robert Bosch GmbH became the latest company to roll out a Covid-19 test, saying it can diagnose in less than 2.5 hours and help efforts to fight the outbreak.

The new test uses the Vivalytic molecular diagnostics platform made by Bosch’s health-care division. The device is already used in hospitals, laboratories and medical practices to identify a range of bacterial and viral diseases including influenza and pneumonia. It will be available in Germany in April and sold in international markets, Bosch said.

i agree, this is attacking the elderly, but its not time to be laid back because your 20. Dont you think the human beast is resenting anything it goes thru, something else is in the works to attack what wasnt attack. Now is the time to stop this and show productivity not coldness and show you are worth it at any age.

I cant find it now, but i was reading somewhere that another virus is following covid-19, the hantavirus. Which effects more age groups. Something to watch, 32 cases in china have it from being hit by the covid-19 virus. :(

I didn't say you should lay back, I said you should take common sense measures. Again, like other countries have. I'm saying, don't shut it all down. You can still social distance, wash hands, business can take measures, move the seating around etc. But when you look at Italy, who many here have mentioned, it's literally 99% with previous medical conditions, the average age is 79.5. Focusing on that alone will help immensely.

They got approved by ICMR few days back. They are planning to produce 100,000 test kits per week and can increase more production if needed.

So, 400,000 per month.

There was news about a Bangladesh firm doing something similar.

Each test kit can test 100 patients. Moreover they have 100% correctness and no false-negative.

Lockdown is the only option if you want people in your country to survive this pandemic. I do not mind people here agree or not. In India if you roam outside without any reason, you will have your butt swollen before you reach your home. Only essential services are allowed such as provision stores, medical shops, grocers.

If foreigners are stuck in India, request them to consult with their embassy. They will help you. Today hundreds of Israelis went back to Israel during this lockdown.

Coming to the Wuhan virus, China has already started their propaganda. Twitter was banned in China and now if you write #ChineseVirus or #WuhanVirus hashtag, you will find a loads of Chinese bots attacking your TL.

Meanwhile this.

You will find many articles in international news publications praising China in coming days.

All that may happen in some states in the US, but I guarantee you it will not happen in my state, if it does, watch the news , you will be very entertained
