Around 3700 passengers and crew are currently being quarantined due to the coronavirus that has already infected around 135 people aboard the ship.

What do you think should be done in this situation, is it fair for the healthy passengers and crew to be confined in such tight quarters with no fresh air or sunlight along with those who have already been infected.

I believe that it's best to find an uninhabited Island and move everyone there. China recently built a Hospital for coronavirus patients in less than a week and so it's doable to make some facilities on an uninhabited Island quickly and make it into a quarantine space for these poor people which many of them although being healthy but are condemned to being in close contact with the virus aboard the ship.

So lets move these people somewhere that they can have more space and be able to get fresh air and sunlight, and perhaps the same ship can be used to bring others to the quarantined Island.

What do you all think

PS: it's situations like this that also shows how important it is to have free access to adequate and timely medical care and attention for all people around the World. And in retrospect maybe the UN should have anticipated a problem such as this and had already built some quarantine Islands in different parts of the World.

As already mentioned earlier washing your hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water and using an alcohol based sanitizer in between and coughing or sneezing into your shoulder or elbow and not into your hands or in the air are the most effective ways to keep the virus from spreading. Not only that it's a good idea for everyone to follow these preventive measures at all times, but people should use every opportunity to educate others around them and remind everyone of the importance of doing their part in stopping the virus not only for their own sake, but also to help protect those among us who are more susceptible to getting seriously sick.

Always leave at least 3 feet or 1 meter (preferably around 6 feet or 2 meters) space between you and others and avoid unnecessary contacts with people such as handshaking and hugging and avoid directly touching objects that others have been touching frequently such as elevator or ATM buttons or screens (use the end of a pen or something like that to press the buttons and be sure not to put the pen in your mouth). Also try to use your elbow to open doors whenever possible so that your hands don’t have to come in contact with the door.

Be specially careful when using public bathrooms (best not to use them unless if you absolutely have to). If a disposable seat cover is not available or that you don't have a way of sanitizing the toilet seat then use some toilet paper and vigorously and rapidly rub on the seat with enough pressure so that the heat created from the friction can kill the viruses and bacteria that might be on the surface, be sure to use enough toilet paper so that your hands don't come in contact with the toilet seat directly while cleaning it. Clean the toilet seat the same way after you are finished, also use a piece of paper towel to open the bathroom door with so that your hands are not exposed to germs now that you have washed them. Use hot water to wash your hands whenever possible and make sure not to open the faucet all the way so that the water from the inside of the sink doesn't splash on you. Use a piece of paper towel to close the faucet and shake the excess water off of your hands and let them dry naturally instead of using bathroom hand dryers specially avoid using the ones that blow air upwards towards your face. (remember the less splashing there is at the urinal or the toilet the less chances of the existing germs of becoming dislodged and coming into contact with you through airborne droplets.)

Sanitize your personal items such as phone, pen, keys, purse, wallet, , remote control, glasses, briefcase, keyboard, and other similar things before you leave home and also after you return (do the same at the office too). Keep in mind that the Coronavirus can last in the environment and on certain objects from 2 hours up to several days depending on the level of humidity and temperature and the type of surface.

Avoid unnecessary touching and petting of your dogs and cats and if you have to do it be sure to wash your hands both before and after. You can move your hand above their head as if you were petting them without actually touching them to let your pets know that you still love them. it might be a good idea to not let your pets leave your yard and stray around in the neighborhood, try to keep them under close supervision while outside and don't allow others to come in contact with them or pet them, for now it might be best to just keep them at home to be on the safe side. Although it's been said that the Coronavirus might not be affecting dogs and cats directly, but they could acquire some of the virus on their coats or on their tongue through contact with infected persons or contaminated objects. Wash your hands both before and after handling the objects and utensils that you use for cleaning, feeding, or as toys. Keep your pets and all things related to them in a clean condition. Keep in mind that even though that your dog or cat might not be directly susceptible to Covid-19 at this time, but there are other strains that they could catch which could affect their gastrointestinal system, so if your pet shows any signs of sickness be sure to consult with your veterinarian. Don't abandon your pets out of fear, take care of them the same way that you would take care of your other family members.

One good thing about washing your hands with soap and water is that not only that the soap can help kill some of the virus, but by making your hands slippery it dislodges the virus and washes them away. If you don't have hospital grade soap it might be a good idea to also use some sanitizer or rubbing alcohol on your hands after you have washed them with soap. Be sure to wash and sanitize your wrists too maybe all the way to your elbows specially after you have returned home. Also as already mentioned avoid touching your face (eyes, ears, mouth, and nose) and if you have to do it then wash your hands both before and after.

Try to use this opportunity to become more health conscious, keep your body strong by following a good nutritional diet, getting enough exercise and avoiding stressful situations as much as possible. Educate yourself about controlling conditions such as heart, lung, kidney, and immune system problems or diabetes and pregnancy which can put you at more risk when it comes to being able to fight viral and bacterial infections. Try to learn more about other communicable diseases such as STDs so that you can keep yourself and your family safe.

Try to take the load off of your immune system by keeping your body clean, the more of the bad viruses and bacteria that you can remove or wash off of your body, clothes, and surroundings the better your immune system can fight those that get inside your body and hide in places that perhaps you can not reach. By keeping yourself in a strong and healthy condition you can make it easier for your body to fight all the viruses that you might get exposed to.

Finally avoiding public and social gatherings and staying home as much as possible might be a good idea for the elderly and those with preexisting health problems who might be at more risk of being affected by Coronavirus.

It usually takes around 5 to 7 days for symptoms to show for most people from the time of exposure to Coronavirus although the incubation period could be between 1 to 14 days. If you have a dry cough along with shortness of breath which for some people might also be accompanied with a low fever at the beginning (which will develop in pretty much everyone later at some point) then be sure to take extra precautions as to not to come in contact with others. Call your doctor or clinic to inform them of your condition and to get further instructions before leaving home in order to minimize the spread of the virus. Coronavirus might be very contagious even if you are not having any symptoms, so if you believe that you have been in a high a risk environment that might have exposed you to this virus make sure to isolate yourself and seek medical advice from your doctor on what to do and where to go to get tested. It is not yet known for sure if this virus is going to be active seasonally or year around and to what extent it is going to be impacting different communities, it's possible that it might linger around both in the environment and in some of the people who have already been infected who might become carriers and as such all precautions and preparations must be taken on a more permanent basis by all people and Governments around the World in order to prevent future outbreaks in case the Coronavirus or a similar virus or their mutations become a permeant disease. Best to plan ahead and take some preemptive measures including timely testing and vaccinations in order to contain these types if viruses in the long term basis and not to leave anything to chance for the sake of future generations.

Until our technology advances to the level that can allow us to conquer such diseases all together we as a species might have to change a lot of our habits and norms in order to get the upper hand over the many bad microorganisms that want to take over our body and mind. It's worth noting that over the eons we have developed a symbiotic relationship with some of these microorganisms which help our body function and that we share some mutual interest with when it comes to the way that we all have evolved, but ultimately even our good symbionts have an influence over our way of life in a way that is more geared towards protecting and guaranteeing their own survival and as such have had a hand in determining how our societies, cultures, traditions, customs, religions, laws and many of our habits have been shaped through out the history. It might sound a little far out to say that our symbionts could influence the way that we think and act as human beings, but many of the things that currently affect our lives such as War, oppression, crime, and inequality and some of the bad characteristics that we have developed such as promiscuity, cruelty, and lack of empathy for others could be attributed to what is more in the interest of our symbionts than what is good for us. It's only through a logical and compassionate way of thinking that we can find the right path to salvation and advance to a higher level of existence that could bring us a better future by making us a force for good.

Please note that these and the other tips mentioned in this thread are not meant to be professional medical advice. It’s best to keep yourself up to date through as many different sources and channels as possible because this is a fluid situation and new information, perspectives, and instructions might be released on a daily basis.)

According to this article people who have recovered from Coronavirus might be able to donate immunoglobulin-containing serum from their blood.

Human convalescent serum might be an option for prevention and treatment of COVID-19 disease:

How You Can Kill Coronavirus in Your Car Without Damaging Interior Surfaces:

(you might be able to use some of these tips for cleaning similar delicate surfaces on objects around your home or office that could get damaged by bleach or other strong cleaning solutions. You might want to test a small area to make sure that the cleaning solution doesn't cause any discoloration or damage, but nevertheless whatever you end up using it has to indicate on the bottle that it is strong enough to kill 99.9 % of the harmful viruses and bacteria. It's worth noting that there might be other methods of cleaning such as steam cleaning or radiation that are used in some cases which might be as effective for certain applications.)

Even though some very healthy people including infants, children, and younger adults could come up with severe cases of infection, but for now it appears that the older populations and those with preexisting health conditions and disabilities are hit the hardest by the Coronavirus (Covid-19) than any other people and as such it's best if these high risk groups voluntarily took shelter in place and had as little contact with others as possible until this pandemic is over, for this reason family members and volunteers should help the elderly (over 60) and those with special needs to make sure that they have enough medicine and groceries on hand so that they can stay home where they are safer from coming in contact with the Coronavirus (Covid-19), although all hygiene, cleaning, sanitizing, and safety procedures and precautions must be taken as to not to introduce the virus into their environment whether it's through personal contact or through the things that are brought to them from the outside since the virus might be able to linger around in the air for two to three hours and could last for around 24 hours on coarse surfaces such as cardboard and for three to four days on smooth surfaces such as plastics and stainless steel (maybe even longer depending on the level of humidity and temperature). Each community is responsible for making sure that no one with special needs is ignored or neglected during this crisis.

This situation might go on longer than most people anticipate, even after the pandemic is over and the virus peaks out certain long term plans should be made to help those that are most vulnerable amongst us. Although those who have already gotten well can develop a certain level of immunity against the Covid-19 , but they can get sick again this year or in the future years if they are exposed to a different mutation of the Coronavirus, so along with the stringent precautions and measures that are currently being taken there also has to be a long term plan and strategy in regards to keeping this and other diseases under control in the future. The most important step that can be taken to preempt future pandemics is to provide adequate, timely, and affordable access to healthcare to everyone and to make sure that no one is left out of the system for lack of financial abilities or any other reason as every one who is left out will increase the chances of the World having to face another pandemic in the future.

Although there are certain programs to help the poor, and the rich can pay their own way to get the best healthcare possible, but there are still a lot of low income working people who are caught in the middle who even though they might have insurance but can’t afford to pay for their copay specially if their doctor wants them to do some expensive tests and procedures like MRI or frequent blood tests that might be needed in some cases and so even though they technically are counted amongst those who are covered by insurance, but in reality there are many obstacles in their way of receiving adequate and timely medical attention. It puts even more hindrance in their way when they are preyed upon by some companies that want to stick them with sky high charges for tests and procedures that were done without their knowledge. The financial burdens that are put on many low income and even middle class people while having to deal with a catastrophic illness in many cases ends up destroying perfectly good families that fall into bankruptcy and subsequently collapse due to divorce, addiction, and even suicide. In addition unfortunately there are certain groups around the World who want to use access to healthcare, shelter, food, and education as a tool to suppress and in some cases even eliminate certain segments of the population that they consider to be undesirable based on their misguided interpretation and perception of their race, gender, religion, and social and economical status and as such that will guarantee that there will be even worse pandemics in the future.

Having adequate and timely healthcare, shelter, food, and education should be considered a human right all around the World, we should use all technologies and resources at our disposal to make sure that there is a certain minimum standard of living for all people that no one could be deprived of for any reason.

If I were to make an educated guess not as a physician, but through abstract thought, I would say that perhaps it’s the difference in the level of certain hormone that makes the elderly more susceptible to the Coronavirus the same way that perhaps they are more susceptible to the Shingles virus and maybe that’s where the researchers should focus more of their attention on while everyone is waiting on a vaccine.

Should China be held liable for causing the Coronavirus pandemic that is now ruining the global economy.

In my opinion all countries around the World that are affected by this pandemic which is going to be almost everyone sooner or later should cancel their national debt to China as compensation for all the damage that they have received because of the repeated carelessness and ignorance that has been going on even after China's unhealthy practices as far as using exotic animal parts had been proven to had caused so many problems in the past already.

Fighting the Coronavirus requires that we as a species make some drastic changes in our habits and norms.

In addition to taking all the hygiene and safety measures and precautions we must also reevaluate our way of life as a whole to make sure that all our thoughts and actions are driven by logic and compassion and not being influenced by all the different microorganisms that want to take control of our bodies and minds for their own benefit.

Here are a few things that we should do if we want to be free from the influence of the microorganisms in the long term basis:

Stop promiscuity and encourage people to live a life free of lust.

Have empathy for others and use everything in our power to help save people from disease, hunger, homelessness, illiteracy, addiction, abuse, and slavery.

Prevent cruelty, torture, killing, and War and replace hate and animosity with care and compassion.

End inequality and discourage racism and elitism.

End political, religious, and racial fanaticism and extremism and prevent oppression and suppression of others.

Create equal opportunity for everyone and help the disadvantaged.

Discourage greed and jealousy and prevent exploitation of others.

Value all life including the unborn and don’t allow anyone or anything to derail the lives of our children by making them fall into a life of crime or antisocial and deviant behavior and more importantly not to allow grown ups to use the children as a tool for advancing their own misguided agendas and interests.

Last but not least we need to come out of the trance that keeps us subservient to our microorganism symbionts.

Promiscuity, lust, abuse, cruelty, greed, jealousy, arrogance, selfishness, unfaithfulness, living in excesses, discrimination, prejudice, hate, lack of empathy, inequality, racism, oppression, suppression, fanaticism, extremism, terrorism, dictatorism, slavery, crime, antisocial and deviant behavior, idol worshipping, bowing to the rich and the powerful, dishonesty, paranoia, extreme suspicion, hallucinations, torture, killing, and War and lack of care and attention for the Environment and our Home Planet are all part of the same package that the microorganisms have been using to control us for their own benefit. All you have to do is to look at the history of the World to see how we have been being manipulated all along. We have gotten so used to this way of life that no one has ever questioned why there has to be so many bad things associated with our civilization. The relation between us and the microorganisms is like the relation that we have between us and our cattle, we are taken care of to some extent like cattle and we might even enjoy our subservient lives to a certain degree, but it all ends in a rude awakening when we are taken to the slaughterhouse to be killed (War). The only way to see a clear path out of this situation is for humanity as a whole to ascend to a higher level of thinking and existence that is based on the Universal principles and values that are derived from logic and compassion. We need to break away from this subservient existence and become the master of our own destiny and future by using all technologies and resources at our disposal to become a force for good that is going to end all the pain and suffering that we and all the other living things are being subjected to once and for all. The good will win over the bad through logic and compassion.

This is the most important time in the history of the World as this is the moment that humanity as a whole has to choose if it wants to continue with the status quo or if it wants to enter a new era of awareness and understanding that allows it to ascend to a higher level of thinking and existence and become a force for good based on the Universal values and principles that are derived from logic and compassion.

Meanwhile we all should keep washing our hands and be careful not to keep touching our faces. We should keep our body and spirit strong by having a nutritional diet and getting enough sleep and exercise. We should also follow all physical distancing protocols and self isolate and CALL the right health professionals if we are having symptoms. We should be extra careful as to not to expose the elderly and those who have preexisting conditions especially when we take them groceries and medicine since the virus can linger in the air and last on some surfaces for a long time. It's also important to remember that everyone is entitled to get some fresh air and sunshine everyday without coming into contact with others. Last but not least we should keep ourselves informed about all new developments and learn how to keep ourselves and our families safe from this and all the other diseases. Finally we should realize the fact that humanity as a whole needs to work together if we are going to be able to conquer the harmful microorganisms that want to take control of our bodies and minds.

It might be best for people to shelter in place and limit their contact with others until widespread testing is implemented and that those who are infected can be identified and contained before further spread of the virus among the greater population. The faster that widespread testing can get on the way the faster people might be able to resume their normal (new normal) lives.

It's hard to believe that some people still don't take this situation with the Coronavirus seriously, We can't blame everything on our leaders, we the people also have to take some responsibility to make sure that this virus doesn't take over the World and cause exponential devastation both in terms of the Global economy and the lives that are lost or affected.

So wear your damn masks and wash your damn hands and obey the physical distancing rules because we can no longer allow your arrogance to put others at risk especially when it comes to the medical professionals and the first responders who are going out of their way at great risk to themselves and their families to take care of those who are most vulnerable amongst us.

What to do with the infected cruise ship?
The people best qualified to answer this question, cruise operators, have full plates right now and are unlikely to login to NP so I'll offer an amateur opinion. (Full disclosure: ecalc has not set foot on an ocean going vessel since the Queen Mary carried troops.) Disinfect, deep clean, spruce up and rename. Hope that helps, good luck!

Let's not forget that hundreds of doctors and nurses have lost their lives while trying to save ours.

Those who contribute to the spread of the virus by not taking this situation seriously are going to be sorry once the people close to them start getting sick and have to be hospitalized.

If wearing masks, washing hands, and obeying the physical distancing rules can help save the lives of the people around you then it's time to seriously considering to do so specially when people have to be in close proximity of others.

Here are a few more useful tips:

Be sure to wear a mask, but don’t go to the extreme since if a mask is so dense that it can block all the microscopic virus particles then it might interfere with breathing and could make your mouth overheat specially if it is worn all day. Although virus particles can still pass through the average masks that are available to the general public, but most masks even the homemade cloth ones could be effective in preventing the spread of Covid 19 by blocking the Larger Droplets that come out of our mouths when sneezing or talking, this way there is less chances of those droplets from reaching those that are within our close proximity. If you don't have access to a mask try using a scarf to cover your mouth and nose. Wearing some kind of a glasses or goggles is also recommended to prevent airborne droplets from landing into your eyes.

Remember to sneeze into your sleeves or a napkin even when wearing a mask or a scarf in order to reduce the number of the droplets and particles that are still going to get into the air and also make sure not to be touching your face all the time (if you have to do it be sure to wash your hands both before and after).

When using disinfectants allow the surface to remain wet for at least two minutes before wiping it dry. Almost all disinfectants need a few minutes to kill the viruses. Some disinfectants actually work better when they are diluted by water, so read the instructions on the bottle carefully for each specific application.

Remember that It’s also important to wash your hands thoroughly and for at least 2 minutes. If using hand sanitizers be sure to rub your hands together vigorously and thoroughly for at least 2 minutes also (Make sure that the hand sanitizer that you are using is safe and doesn't contain any harmful ingredients as indicated by the FDA).

When coming back home specially if you have been in high risk areas be sure to leave your clothes and shoes in an out of the way area like in your garage for at least 3 days before bringing them inside to wash in order to allow any viruses to die off, this way there is less chances for the rest of your home to get contaminated. Also be sure to spray under your shoes when cleaning them.

If you receive a package or someone brings you something unperishable that you don’t need right away you might also want to put it aside somewhere out of the way for up to a week before opening and using it.

Study identifies six different types of Covid 19:

https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/covid-19-symptoms-study-six-different-types/

"The six clusters of symptoms outlined in the study are:

  1. Flu-like with no fever: Headache, loss of smell, muscle pains, cough, sore throat, chest pain, no fever.
  2. Flu-like with fever: Headache, loss of smell, cough, sore throat, hoarseness, fever, loss of appetite.
  3. Gastrointestinal: Headache, loss of smell, loss of appetite, diarrhea, sore throat, chest pain, no cough.
  4. Severe level one, fatigue: Headache, loss of smell, cough, fever, hoarseness, chest pain, fatigue.
  5. Severe level two, confusion: Headache, loss of smell, loss of appetite, cough, fever, hoarseness, sore throat, chest pain, fatigue, confusion, muscle pain.
  6. Severe level three, abdominal and respiratory: Headache, loss of smell, loss of appetite, cough, fever, hoarseness, sore throat, chest pain, fatigue, confusion, muscle pain, shortness of breath, diarrhea, abdominal pain."

From personal experience with some of the people that I know who have recovered from Covid 19 it seems that Human Convalescent Serum, where they take blood plasma from people who have developed some immunity and give it to those whose condition is getting worse is producing some good results in helping people to get well. In addition the use of certain steroids and a cocktail of antibiotics may also help in reducing inflammations and secondary infections that might develop.

Also I have since learned that it's important to change the position of the patient frequently and not allow them to lay down on their back for too long and have them take deep breaths several times a day to oxygenate the inner folds of the lungs as doing these two things can help prevent fluid build up in the lungs and help reduce the chances of infection.

Being put on oxygen from the very beginning before symptoms become sever and fatigue and confusion set in also makes a big difference in helping the rate of recovery among the Covid 19 patients.

Taking these measures might keep the symptoms from reaching the more severe levels and reduce the chances of the patients needing to use ventilators.

As already mentioned I am not a medical doctor, the information above is from having personal experience with some of the people that I know who have recovered from Covid 19 , there might be other methods that are also as effective, as an advocate for people that you know who have come down with the virus you need to educate yourself in all the new developments concerning the Covid 19 so that you can know that everything possible is being done to help the people that you care about.

Do a search on Google for "Human Convalescent Serum" and also "laying down on stomach Covid 19" to learn more.

Scientific study shows that masks are effective in preventing the spread of Covid 19 by blocking the droplets that come out of our mouth from traveling too far and landing on others in our close proximity.

https://advances.sciencemag.org/content/early/2020/08/07/sciadv.abd3083

Although some masks are more effective than others, but any mask or face covering that can put a dent in the further spread of the virus should be given top priority along with the other already proven protocols such as frequent hand washing, physical distancing, not touching one's face and wearing some kind of an eye protection like a pair of glasses or goggles (or a face shield), keeping good hygiene and sanitizing the objects and the environment that we come in contact with, sheltering in place when we don't have to go out, and quarantining ourselves and contacting a health professional if symptoms start to appear.

We are getting closer and closer to having a vaccine for Covid 19 and as such it’s very important that we start planning for the proper distribution of the vaccines ahead of time so that there wouldn’t be any obstacles in the way once the vaccines are ready.

Whether the vaccines are going to be given through the existing medical facilities or whether we have to build mobile vaccine trucks that can cover all the neighborhoods and remote places, now is the time that we need to start planning for these things so that the distribution of the vaccines can go on smoothly and without interruption.

Almost all Covid 19 vaccines require refrigerated delivery trucks and must be stored in very low temperatures, it will be a shame if we lose valuable stockpiles of the vaccines because of lack of preparations both when it comes to distribution or storage.

People also have to accept the limitations of the medical science and technology and realize that we might have to go through some trial and error periods and that fighting the virus is going to be a work in progress that might take several years. If we as the human race accept the fact that vaccines are beneficial to keeping us safe, then we also need to accept the fact that there might be certain adverse results in a small percentage of cases, but we realize that it is in our advantage to take our chances with the vaccines because the overall benefits of the vaccines out way the few adverse side effects that might be associated with them and that's true for any medicine or medical procedure.

Meanwhile after the frontline essential workers are vaccinated we have to guarantee equal and timely access to the vaccine for everyone else and create certain programs to make the vaccine available free of charge to those who might not be able to afford it.
