I have been checking BuyDomains.com social media accounts recently because I wanted to see if they were going to ever offer a coupon during these worldwide uncertain times. (They have a domain I really need but waiting for the price to go down.)

Anyways, I thought I'd share an account of an upset teacher whose domain superstarbooks.com was accidentally let go and snatched up by the mega domain company. Ultimately, the pressing point was that the teacher needed to use the domain during this time of school closings and remote learning. Eventually, BuyDomains worked out a solution and the individual changed his response. I am glad BuyDomains was compassionate during this time.

However, screenshots are forever.

Looks like it was all honorable.

As for the subject, I would hardly call it "Damage control". More likely a "Random act of kindness".

Hey Rob, I totally agree that it was very nice of BuyDomains to do that. However, when I say "damage control" what I mean is "reputational damage control." Domainers unfortunately have a slimy reputation by the general public as being cybersquaters when in reality we are just providing a beneficial service. Taking advantage of school teachers during a pandemic is just like putting salt into the proverbial wound.

However, I would disagree in that their kindness was hardly "random" as BuyDomains got called out on a public forum - with an angry emoticon and all.

*It just so happens that I am a little more critical of BuyDomains since I have heard accounts of them increasing their published Buy Now Price after individuals/small businesses send a reasonable Best Offer. That's why I hesitate to ever negotiate with them for a critical name.

It was the mistake of that lady who let her domain name expire. Buy domains cannot be held responsible for it. Instead here buydomains have done a kindness act.
If in case this lady forgot to renew her insurance on time, will she use the same language against law enforcement agencies. She must have got emails reminding her to renew the domain.
In fact domainers are most advanced people on earth with advanced thinking.

It could have also been the case that she is using this unfortunate pandemic as an alibi to get her domain name back.

That's like stop making mortgage payments then blaming someone for buying the house in auction...and think the house will be sold to you at the monthly fee again. Once that name expires, it's no longer yours... Even when you own the name...you are just renting it yearly. But people make mistakes, and it was a honorable thing buydomains did. It's no different from storage wars... You sign a contract and you break it when you decide to stop paying. Someone can bid on your storage unit..."Well it's no longer even your unit". But a honest mistake i can understand. But don't be blaming the new owner for your lapse. The majority of pity me stories i've got turned out to be fake.

Her fault only. But happy to see some kindness from registrar.

There was nothing accidental about it. You get plenty of warnings before your name expires. She chose to let it go. I think we will hear many more stories about people using the virus to get a name cheap not just in here but out there.

Every Domainer do this. If you're not, then you aren't a real Domainer or you simply don't know your onion. Most times we get the idea of our domains potential worth to end users through the offers they make. Nothing wrong in adjusting your prices, either up or down, based on people's interests in the name.

I really don't understand why Domainers tends to vilify each other the most?

What BuyDomains.com did was pure act of kindness, and shouldn't be seen in any other ways.

Maybe, maybe not. I have seen it happen where the cc for auto renew expires and for one reason or another no email notification makes it though.

Maybe the previous owner is taking advantage to get the name back, or maybe not. In either case I'm glad BuyDomains stepped up and helped her get the name back, and I'm sure they still made money on the deal too.
