First of all I wanted to reference a July 18, 2019 article by Lori Anne Wardi on DomainNameWire.com entitled "Marketing a Teenage TLD" providing a 2019 perspective on the .US country extension, and talking about Neustar's evolving approach to defining and engaging with the .US target market, for anyone who hasn't had a chance to read it earlier.

It would be great if we could have some of us who want to see a bright future for the .US country extension share some of their thoughts, including optimistic possibilities for this extension in say 5yrs, 10yrs, 15yrs + down the road.

(Any unique additional opinions from the domain brokerage side also very welcome.)

Thank you!

It will be a long journey but Lori Anne Wardi is one of the best marketers in the business so that's a good sign. It has to stop those discounting promotions because that destroys the quality of usage in the ccTLD. A ccTLD is quite different from a gTLD in that it has a completely different market and that market is geographically concentrated. It has to get people using the ccTLD and that's a difficult task due to its main competitor being .COM. The .US ccTLD has had marketing problems for years due this competition but if .COM prices rise, then .US could become a viable alternative for new US registrants that are targeting the US market.

Thanks JMCC! I am seeing an anecdotal pickup of newer sites using .io and .co in some cases, would you happen to know of any objective studies or stats on that in the resent past, incl any statistically significant pickup in use of .us?

Also, I acquired that name "Zinger.us" mostly for myself to use, I have to say to me it seems pretty "catchy", if you could share any opinion that would be appreciated (pros and cons), tx!

The key question is how many "champion" websites use .US as its main domain, preferably type in that helps build brand equity.

Zoom (which primarily relies on links generated and app based) and your typical government domains (ie tx.us).

Not the most promising trends. Even a 10 cent domain promo didn't appear to make much of an impact.

Nothing on .IO but I did a Web Usage survey on .US in 2019 but the usage was not high.

It is a good name but the problem is that it will take a while for the .US ccTLD to develop.

Discounting promotions are not good for ccTLDs. They attract rubbish registrations and most of them, particularly with such a low registration fee will not be renewed.
