I hope everyone is doing well. I am looking to develop a domain for a project and I wanted everyone's opinion on this.

I am interested in registering a 2 word domain but the .com is a fully developed eCommerce site and totally unavailable.

I am left with 2 options. TwoWordCo.com (currently available at reg fee) or TwoWord.co (being sold by a domainer for under $2k) The name I am interested in is 2 five letter words so the "Co" ending would make it 12 letters.

Which is better and why?

Thank you guys for your feedback so far. Another option would be the .org even though it is a for-profit business. The .org has widespread acceptance and backing. I am not sure customers' reaction to this would be however. I will say that the .org version does "sound good" and the name could be associated with a non-profit org. (ThinkSmart.org as a fictitious example) The .org is is listed available for sale but without an asking price.

I moved on to the next idea as already failed but the dot co as no point mentioning a company without the official status with the dot com. The .co extension is just an extension makes more sense than mentioning a company you don't have.

After thinking about this issue for a few weeks now, I have come up with the 2 best solutions. (Again, I am using example domains, none of which I am affiliated with.)

Solution 1

Utilize both the ThinkSmart.Co and ThinkSmartCo.com so you have the best of both worlds.

First, any non Columbian business that uses a .CO domain has to accept that they are settling for a vanity domain. It might be pretty, but it's not exactly the most practical for general audience use.

The solution is to use the short ThinkSmart.Co as your main domain for direct online clicks but anytime you require the user to actually type in anything into their browser you would emphasize the .Com version.

For example, on a business card you would emphasize the ThinkSmartCo.com version as well as writing [email protected]. That way you will (hopefully) minimize accidental visits and email to ThinkSmart.com

Solution 2

Add a nice 2 word prefix and avoid "CO"VUSION all together.
(sorry, as I was typing the pun came to me)

So the other good choice I came up with is to use a domain similar in quality to WeThinkSmart.com instead of debating whether to use ThinkSmart.Co or ThinkSmartCo.com
