Hello friends,

during last 4 years, I enjoyed participating on this forum. It was very lovely time to be here.

As some of you maybe know, I am pure new gTLD investor, and I have spend many days here discussing this domain asset class. I hope I have helped some of you to form an opinion about new domain opportunities, and maybe also debunked some myths and half-truths which were pretty common here few years ago about them. This has now much improved, to my pleasure.

Along the way I have build one of the best new gTLD private portfolio out there, which is a nice side effect of this journey. I hope in future it will result in nice (and large) pay-off..

Maybe some of you noticed, that to get nice new domain names is not that easy or cheap anymore. For me, as I was spoiled with early convenience of low entry prices as an early investor and fan, today's enviroment is not bringing much excitement anymore. For one, registries are getting much better in their pricing, which then results in less opportunities for domain investors. But also, there are more and more investors now, which are getting prices for good new gTLD combos in auctions to pretty high levels (study recent new gTLD auctions at Dynadot, for example). This, in return, brings less topics, which can be actually meaningfuly discussed between domain investors.

In addition, I started to have feeling that very nice community which was once here, is not here anymore. Atmosphere changed, and although I have voiced my concern for more balance repeadly over last few months, I just have feeling I was not heard really, or that those who should care, did not much. I like quality discussion which brings value to everyone, but it seems my time here was literally wasted by those who care only about their personal profits. It bothered me several times, because I cared about people and community here, but I do not see any improvement - so this is the main reason I am leaving you. Unfortunatelly (I guess for me), I am fan of fairness and rules which are valid for everyone, and if this is not the case for longer period of time, it does not go well with me, and I vote with my feet. Again, it is probably my loss, but I can not change that.

I hope you liked the appraisal thread for new gTLDs I ran for 1,5 years, and that it gave you some value!

I understand where you are coming from Markek, but this is a big forum, I would use ignore buttons and stick to sections you care about.

I despise the discussion of politics, I am sure there are some crazy and heated debates in the political thread, I don't know, because I have never entered, no interest. Others have interest and are welcome to participate.

This is how a forum should run, it seems to me that many go hunting for stuff they don't like to take cheap shots at the targets and topics they don't like. If someone is spamming or doing other unethical stuff, report it, don't reply, it only escalates the situation it does not solve the problem.

You are a grown man if you want to leave, best of luck, but if you are looking to stay but want to avoid the noise you don't care for, put on some headphones and block it out.

Sad to see you go. Although I may not have been a fan of the new gTLD's, I am always happy for peope who make some $$ out of anything by taking a risk and enjoying the rewards that follow.

Hi Marek...

I respect your work and learned good points about ngTLD investing.

I love NamePros but annoying posts and comments are increasing day by day.
We can only ignore the content and the members who repeatedly irritate the community with their behaviour.

I believe you can do more good by staying here than leaving...that being said I support your decision and wish you good luck.

It can be a good thing to take some time off from this forum and come back after some months...may be it gives some fresh thinking and help your thoughts.

I too wasn't the biggest fan of gTLDs (mainly due to my personal losses in that area), but your insights and enthusiasm in that category was always appreciated. Using your insights, I've since kept an eye out for certain types of gTLDs even though my original plan was to abandon them altogether.

I wouldn't take it too personal. It does seem like almost any subject will bring out critics, but for every critic there are 100 others reading the thread and appreciating aspects of your post. Sometimes the loud minority prevent others in the majority to speak up about a subject. I don't think it's unique to this forum. I think it happens here and elsewhere online and in today's culture. At times it's just from the debating nature that comes out of people, and other times people do react overly negative and things get too personal.

I've just started ignoring the people that bring harsh criticism because they are either not trying to see things from another point of view, or they are just interested in trolling others, and there's no way for me to change that or make those people happy. So I just hit the ignore button and move on.

But you are very much appreciated. I personally value your opinions, views, and enthusiasm. Like some of the other suggestions above, maybe take a break for a couple weeks and return back as a "part-time" contributor.

I am so sad at this news @Brands.International.

You have contributed so much to NamePros, and particularly to those who choose to invest in new gTLDs. I really admire the logical and quantitative probabilistic approach you applied to decisions re whether to hold a name. Your long-standing thread on evaluating names contributed by members was a superlative contribution. I can't imagine how many hours you put into that thread, and I know we did not often enough, thank you for all that work. In so many other ways you have contributed immensely .

As others have already noted, I really admired that you could seem to keep your cool and pleasant nature, even when things were said that could well have provoked even a patient person.

I feel that I am definitely a better domain investor because of your contributions, and I greatly valued your friendship here. Now I truly must get active again on LinkedIn if that is the way to stay in touch going forward.

A break is not a bad thing (I think I even wrote a post on that theme

) and I truly hope that after a short break you will choose to return. That is of course your choice to make.

I think there is a lot of truth in what @Equity says above about tuning out some aggravating parts, if not by direct use of ignore, then at least by what one chooses to interact with. It is hard to do, I know, but it is sound advice.

I am sad right now. But I guess I should be happy for all of the positive things you have contributed, rather than sad that you have chosen to leave. If I can in any way help, don't hesitate to reach out.

I got my very first domain name when I was 6 years old. No that's not a typo, when I was just 6 years old my father who was a pioneer in using the internet for e-commerce went ahead and registered my first and last name (firstlast.com) as a .COM and reserved it for me, this was in 2003 back when so many more domains were readily available and it wasn't nearly as difficult to get desirable names.

What I'm trying to say is that it's incredibly different today than it was back then and opportunities are farther between than they used to. When you do land a sale the margins are often far less than previously and people have to get much more creative to find new opportunities.

New domain TLDs are much riskier but I definitely see the appeal of securing a key one-word domain or two-word domain that's still available with these exciting new extensions that were registered long ago with the big 3 (.com .net .org)

I wish you luck and I feel your struggle with the market as it's become much more competitive

that is quite sad you take things here so personally. I know its not easy not to take sometimes things people say here as almost personal... or to be offended by them... but imo the point of being here is learning AND fun... so if either of those components is missing, then perhaps as you say, it is time to leave for an np member.

i do not really invest in ngtld... i have my view on them like everyone. however, I do find your post above a bit contradictory, because you say that you managed to improve the state of ngtld opinions and debunk half truths... but then you go on to comment that the state of ngtlds in terms of availabilities.. and potential to make money etc.. is no longer what it used to be... so perhaps those half truths as you call them, and the crtitics of ngtlds (not me) are now basically turning out to be more and more true and becoming the reality of ngtld.

either way, I enjoyed your posts and your success. so I wish you all the best.

imo, which is say neutrally, ngtld always have and always will be a hard sell, and most importantly for domainers -- a much HARDER sell, than other tlds... like .com.... except for the very few people such as yourself... partly (as you put it) because you were "spoiled" and partly because you put in a lot of time and effort into ngtlds etc.. but for the average domainer... ngtlds will simply make much less sense profit wise and sale potential wise than other tlds.. like com...

I am sure you will back. Don't say goodbye. I don't accept it. Stay on forum, learn and wait. Things change from era to era. Don't take static decisions while you are swimming in a dynamic environment. It's the biggest mistake.

But heck, the day is long and it's rainy outside
more often than sunny, at least in germany
so why not spend a few minutes here
and help newbies not to be fooled.....
