Hey all. Been domaining for 17 years, and Afternic has been a solid platform all this time. Well, except for the last year. I had 17 sales in 2017, and 22 in 2018, but only 12 last year. And nothing whatsoever in the last four months. This is far beyond the standard deviation from normal. I have been re-investing 150% of profits into higher quality and more names - happy to run negative cash flow to build a solid portfolio. I expected about 30 to 40 sales last year - this would have been normal based on my experience. Most of my names are priced right at the Godaddy appraised price - which has always been the sweet spot. My premiums are more and I have no interest in selling them, and I don't factor in my premiums into my bread and butter sales.

Brandbucket has died. In my experience with them in the last 4 years, they do about .05% sell-through rate at best.
Brandpa - only been with them for a year and have 60 names - priced up to $75k max. Zero percent sell through rate.
Squadhelp - Extremely happy with them. Three sales - mid to high four figures with a 10% sell through rate.
Efty - great guys running this, but just get lots of spam. Hard to get traffic stats with the goog anal system
Dan.com - Seems a clean platform - moved 150 names over recently. Like the traffic stats.

Would welcome any comments, suggestions, experiences and stats to share.

How many names you have at afternic?

People report fake offers via DAN?

afternic fast transfer is great, still most sales

like DAN show portfolio, low 9% commission

Believe what you said of Squadhelp, look nice

People report fake offers via DAN?

I've had a few non-paying deals at Dan (beyond the few outrageous obviously fake 7 figure offers on 4 figure names). But over my three years in domaining so far they've been most consistent for me - I've had 76 sales.

I did long ignore Afternic but I've started listing all the names I have BINs on there too, with decent results - three sales in the last couple of weeks, though all sub-$1k.

I have about 150 names on BP, BB and SH. SH is recent, so I'll give it some time, but the only one that has come through so far has been BP, six sales in the last 18 months.

I mostly gave up on acquiring names at auctions because of the time-suck and crazy prices.

As of a few weeks ago, I'm in the green on my overall domain investment and I plan to keep it that way. I've built a decent portfolio with about a dozen names I'm holding long-term/developing, etc., my 400+ names at brandables marketplaces which will hopefully continue to pay for their renewal costs and bring some profits in yearly, and nearing 2000 "recyclables" - 99c names I only hold for a year and keep on high-xxx BINs.

Historically my sales have been 50% Afternic 50% DAN using DAN landers.
All my recent sales have been through DAN. I haven’t had an Afternic sale in months.

I find the listing process buggy at Afternic. 25% of my names aren’t listed there which is contributing to the shift. I also believe buyers are becoming more comfortable and aware of DAN.

My names have been priced about 10% higher there for last couple years.

Thanks for the background and your numbers @Dot Com Realty and perhaps with your numbers over the entire many years something can be concluded. However, for the three years you gave a specific number (17 in 2017, 22 in 2018, 12 in 2019) I don't think they necessarily support the theory that Afternic is decreasing. Three years is not much to do any statistics on, but the mean value is 17 with a standard deviation of 5. If it was a normal statistical distribution, this would mean that about 2/3 of the time the number would be 17 +/- 5, which all three of your values fit. So the variation could simply be statistical variability.

I think there may be reasons for Afternic to decrease (increasing competition from DAN that have definitely grown market share) but also reasons Afternic may have grown stronger too (agents in more regions, lander changes, GD/Afternic stats suggest that GoValue has resulted in more closed sales).

Afternic is firing on all gears if you have the right names.

Not sure what you are buying, or holding, maybe you can show some examples of your listed names with pricing, that might shed some light on what is going on.

Otherwise if you are weighted heavy on a certain niche that could always hurt you. Otherwise without some examples nobody here can really give you any insight. To be honest investing 150% at today’s prices is not a very smart move, given how high prices have been in the past year, you are overpaying unless you are buying bargain type fliers.

I have 650 names there.
Hmm, that should be enough to see a regular stream of price requests, etc. I don't know that 650 would get you 30-40 sales though. Maybe 25-30.

I have about 800 parked there. I'm not getting 40 sales a year. I get about 25-35 though.

I have only been using PUR for about 3 months now. It's seems okay. Still thinking of going back to BIN with fast transfer for most of them.

I usually find a few dozen names not in their premium listing, so I contact them every few months and ask themto add what it is not in there.

domaining since jan. 1999
after all these years, afternic still represents a big hope for me with domaining as per premium price listings (they haven't tweeted in a year although)

long live afternic hopes!

-have a special day

We are having a very similar experience. Percentage wise, I have had more offers in the first two months this year than I have in many years past.

They are, without exception, low ballers. I've got no doubt than most are coming from other domainers (lots of tell signs with pros) but I am able to verify many are coming from end users.

I think the morons that are trying to get 'likes' and/or 'views' and/or 'followers' on ewetube and tweetydirt are creating an unrealistic retail sales value for names by saying stuff like "become a domainer and make 600% on a name", etc. They are creating a belief that it is all pure profit for a domain investor and it's making potential buyers think that since we only paid $10 bucks to register name ten years ago we should be thrilled to get $350...4L, EMD or not.

By the way, I would have xxx sales per year at Afternic if I took just any offer. I'm more focused big wins.

My names are powerball tickets, not scratchers. ;)

My 50% of domain sales last year came via Afternic which was really amazing as well as surprising to find out such great results and I'm happy with it.

anyone having trouble with afternic not reporting visits . my dashboard has not been updated for at least a week. mine are not parked, i am using afternic 3 and 4. they thought i was using 1 and 2 (with ads). i sent in a ticket and this was their answer.

Thank you for contacting Afternic Support. We have made sure that the even though the number of views have gone down that it has not impacted any of the clicks you may have received in the past. IT can take 3-5 days to get the viewing information from our 3rd party ad provider.

My panel isn't accurate either. Not just views but sales and price requests also.

I should also mention that I check my Afternic daily because I get price requests but dont always get email notification.

I think only 1 and 2.

But I think if their marketplace, it shows as a view in the admin panel even if ns is 3 and 4.

Each year for the last 17 years my portfolio has grown more diverse. Way back I would aim for "category killers", but those died a slow death, and I have been steadily liquidating those for pennies for the last few years. Only in the last three years have I focused more on brandables, as I do now. What a company would name itself. Examples of my SH sales are Rx2.com, TheMedStore.com, and OptionPulse.com.

Yeah, youtu..... has so many idiots with "tutorials" on how to do this with unrealistic expectations. So sad that anyone can just post such crap and a bigger idiot comes along and "learns" this.

To clarify - I am not using their landers - just listed in their premium listings with GD. I have 650 there. Would you recommend their landers?

All 3 names you mentioned above are great, only think I can think of is if your not asking enough for your domains? What would you price the 3 at ? If people sell there names
To cheap, they won’t be able to support all the laggards in the portfolio.
