It has been very difficult to list and manage an inventory at @Sedo:
  • the seller interface is old and cumbersome.
  • the spreadsheet they offer for bulk updates is old and cumbersome. Sedo no longer accepts some of the information the sheet requests.
  • the ownership verification process demands a massive amount of time
Until Sedo gets its act together, I give up!

Afternic and others are so much more user-friendly.

Hi DomainBanana,

Thanks for your engaging post.

I note you say that it has been very difficult to list and manage your inventory, but can you explain in more detail what you mean by that, what do you find difficult in this process? Maybe I can assist you with it and help make it easier. If you are using the excel sheet you only need to list domains on the sheet, and complete the mandatory columns are A (the domain name), B (the language of the domain), C (the currency of sale) and H (Price Option). You dont have to complete anymore fields if you dont want to, once you have completed the sheet once you can save it and just update it and send it to us to upload or update whenever you want. You do not need to make a new sheet every time, so once you have initially added the bulk of your domains. Managing them is easy with the upload sheet.

In regards to the upload sheet having information that is no longer accepted. This only applies to activating Sedo MLS Premium (column G). Activating MLS Premium in bulk can not currently be done on the sheet but if you have a large amount of domains, then we can help you activating them in bulk if you let us know which ones you are trying to activate. Also most registrars offer bulk DNS changes so you can add a TXT record to all your domains or a bulk of the domains at once. We have the ownership verification process on Sedo to improve the integrity of the marketplace, it significantly lowers the amount of seller not owner transactions and gives buyers the security and confidence they need when purchasing domains on our platform, that the owner is who they say they are. So while it is an extra process to listing, the benefits of the process still out way the extra time needed to verify.

I can assure you that our Tech Team are currently working on updating our interface but in the meantime, if you can be more exact with what process you are finding difficult then I will do my best to help you.

All the best

Chris

I agree @DomainBanana I stopped listing there years back after I went through the hell of adding the code they demand to many domains and it still failed. I even tried to remove privacy and relist. Still told my names couldn’t be verified. Anywhere else you can literally list in a matter of minutes. Never again.

Chris, Sedo is using a seller interface that was designed in the 1990s
there is no fix in educating people

the fix is in updating the interface

Although I love Sedo because my first ever end-user sale was through them, i'll admit I lost interest. Nobody wants to do all those things, & end up with this for potential clients to see & run.

Can you remove domain listing, listed $999 by the previous seller? has easier way to remove Sedo listings listed by the previous owner?

@Sedo

Samer

Hi Samer,

Yes we can remove old listings that the old owner forgot to remove from their account. Sedo can remove them, following receipt of proof of ownership from the current owner. To do this, please send us a screen shot attachment of your Registrar account containing all of the following information:

- domain name
- period of registration and expiration date
- your contact data - name, address and email address

Send the info to [email protected] and we will arrange for the domain to be deleted without delay.

All the best

Hey all,

Thanks for your comments!

All I can assure you is that we are working on updating our marketplace to make a better user experience for you all. Due to the complexity of our site and the amount of innovation needed this is something that we can not change immediately. In the meantime, please bear with us, I will help you as best as I can with any problems with the listing process.

Chris @Sedo,

Thanks for your reply.

I can't take the time to document all the difficulties I've had with Sedo. In brief, my bulk submission spreadsheet was kicked back about 5 times due to various formatting problems before Sedo accepted it. One of these problems was that one of the columns was too narrow and reading as ### signs until it was stretched out. The inability of the Sedo team to recognize that the data was the same with a smaller vs. larger column cost me 3 days. Later, my domains weren't processed because I formatted the BIN column as currency, with a $ sign in front of the price. Apparently the Sedo system doesn't know how to interpret a $ sign, a disturbing metaphor in itself. I wasn't notified of this problem. I had to follow up by phone to discover that this small detail prevented the listing. It cost me another 3 days. Overall, it took me about 2 weeks to get the bulk update done.

Ownership verification is a beast of its own. I have domains held by at least 5 registrars. I cannot take the time to add a text record to hundreds of domains across different registrars. Adding a text record also disrupts the DNS settings, meaning I would need to add and remove the txt record and endure several days of disruption while Sedo verifies ownership.

My overall experience, and particularly this latest episode, suggests that Sedo is much more interested in creating a ridiculously convoluted listing process than actually selling names.

Afternic, DAN, Uniregistry, and others have all figured this out. I can list with them all within minutes, not weeks. It's not rocket science.

I look forward to the day when Sedo gets it right, too.

I have to fully agree with you. I used to add my domains to Sedo but because of the extremely cumbersome issue with the verification process that you have very well described I have completely given up on them. Why is it that marketplaces specialized in selling websites and domains (Afternic, Sedo), use the most archaic websites from the stone age themselves to do this? Clearly they never invested any time or money in innovation, forward-thinking, or future-proofing. The outrageously high 15% to 20% commission that you have to pay for the privilege of selling a domain via these intermediaries (who often do nothing to deserve that commission) is probably used to pay the bonuses of the executives who likely don't even know how to register a domain name themselves.

1) why is there a need to limit the number of domains that can be uploaded at the same time in a single session? at DAN I didn't encounter any so far

2) why is there a need to manually delete all duplicate domains
( domains that are already in the sedo system in your own account )
why can't you simply ignore them???????

3) why do you need to ask how I like the experience
when actually nobody cares at all?

I don't expect you to react

@frank-germany - even though not always in the most sophisticated way, you always say it how it is (irrespective to whom you are talking) and with the world becoming more and more hypocritical, I, for one, appreciate that.

I want to do it for about 1500 domains all at once not go through it one page at a time...in which case they want me to reupload the whole excel spreadsheet again and every time I do it seems to get rejected due to some formatting issue, not to mention that I would need to change the minimum offer on all my domains on that row in the spreadsheet.

Watch the end of the video. There's a checkbox at the top that lets you do all at once.

You know what - actually all this time I’ve been referring to Sedo I think my main issue is with Uniregistry. With them I believe changing the minimum offer only changes it for all domains added in the future. That’s the one - Uniregistry - I’m having to do the most work on to effect the across the board minimum offer change.

What’s really odd is that somehow all my domains at Uniregistry have a $2000 minimum offer and truly I never set that - I certainly don’t recall setting it. I’d like to change to $1000.

Hi All,

Thank you all for your comments.

@DomainBanana – In order for our system to be able to read the information on the form it must be in the correct format. So the form may be returned for correction but once this is done and the information is correct / in the correct format, updating the domains is a lot quicker and easier. If you are having any further issues with the form please address your emails for my attention FAQ Chris so that I can help you out.

We appreciate that when you have lots of domains across many registrars it can be time consuming verifying your domains. However the verification process itself, once done drastically reduces the seller not owner sales on our marketplace and increases the buyers confidence when buying domains on our marketplace as the seller had to complete the verification process to list. I can assure you that our development team are looking at ways to make this process easier for customers with large amounts of domains.

I will put your suggestions forward to our business development team and feel free as I said when you communicate with us to FAO me in and I will do my best to make the processes easier for you.

All the best

Chris

Hi xynames

You can change the minimum offer on your whole portfolio easily without the upload excel sheet. To do this login to your account:

>Select My Domains or Domain Management

>Change your view in the dropdown from ‘standard overview’ to ‘sales settings’

>In the minimum offer column, select the edit pen next to the title ‘Min Offer’ in the blue banner

>Select ‘Edit Min. Offers’

>Select the check box which appears in the yellow filed (just under the blue banner) and you will then see a message appear like shown in the screen shot ‘select all the domains in your portfolio’

If you have a large portfolio then it can take a few moments to apply the settings to all of them so just let the update run through.

Hope this helps.

All the best Chris

Sedo closed my account before few months without any explanation first then later said due to the country you are residing. I had sedo account for long time in the same country. Not sure why it became an issue now.

Hi Abdullah,

If Sedo closed your account because of the country you live in, then you would have been notified via email. This is is not an issue directly related to Sedo but rather a decision of the US government. These suspensions were due to the U.S. embargo on certain countries, which has a direct impact on the business relations of our parent company, United Internet. Since Sedo is under the umbrella of the United Internet’s companies, we have had to enact this policy resulting in ramifications for Sedo customers based in the countries published. What this entails is that any business relationship or financial transaction, for example, through a domain sale or domain parking with customers based with these countries are prohibited.

If you want to read more about this, you can visit the U.S. government’s official website: https://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/sanctions/programs/

If you have domains listed in your Sedo account, they will automatically be switched to "Not for Sale". Should the embargo be lifted, we look forward to resuming our business relationship and dealings with you.

All the best
Chris
