So I understand the rules here and my account is VIP so that's 3 bumps a day, no problem.

My listing for SSU.co was on page 5, someone made a bid, and then another member asked a question.

https://www.namepros.com/threads/ssu-co.1179003/

  1. What is the renewal?

I replied, I get that my reply would not bump the thread to first position but it would not take it back to page 5

It should be on page 1 right above

Bumps in the last 24 hours (4) in that thread:

4. (after STUB): https://www.namepros.com/threads/ssu-co.1179003/#post-7654972

As a VIP you get 3 bumps per day in the marketplace. The 4th bump was blocked by the system for exceeding the 3 bumps.

We hope that helps explain.

Thanks for the reply but it doesn't, why is this not being followed? That was not a bump I answered a question, so ok delete my reply. The listing was on page 1 before I replied what you call a bump, How would my reply take a listing back 5 pages?

This sounds like an easily-overlooked bug in the bump prevention system. It sounds like the bump system reset the time to your last post instead of stub's last post.

We'll have to wait until @Paul Buonopane can look into that next week. In the meantime, we've given your auction a courtesy bump.

Thanks for letting us know about it.

@Mod Team Bravo when you guys are going to implement new bumping system that you promised in the past? We need the ability to bump threads without posting something! auctions are sometimes hard to browse due to high volume of bump posts, or at least give us the option to delete bumping posts.

Definitely.

There are a lot of development projects in the works to improve the forums, and many of them will be rolling out this year.

Stay tuned! :)

Thanks; that should be fixed. In certain scenarios, it was using the last time at which the OP posted a valid bump and ignoring any replies that weren't from the OP. It will now use the correct timestamp, and there is new code that should prevent the bump add-on from rolling back the timestamp should future errors occur.

As @Mod Team Bravo explained, it's on our to-do list, and it's already been partially implemented. Unfortunately, it's a bit more complicated than we had hoped, so it's been on hold while we get some higher-priority stuff out of the way. In the meantime, we did make it so that excessive bumps generally won't result in notifications or land in news feeds. That's not an ideal workaround, but it should hold us over until we have something more robust.
