What do you mean by "No DNS edit option". I have changed NameServers?

So, push is not possible, only transfer out?

Maybe it is required to open a ticket and request push? For example, Exabytes has that procedure. But I guess it would take them 10 days for a push :xf.grin:
no idea. in my experience :buyers do not want to create an account on hostpapa.

I would be surprised that they would.... since it takes about few days to create account :xf.grin:

Domain Privacy - 1-year term - $9.99.

Think I'll pass. :ninja:

Also, European customers need to pay VAT.

For me, $2.99 turns into $3.56. Not bad for a .com, of course, but eh.

It is true that, as far as I can see, they do not have push to another user, they do definitely allow you to set DNS yourself from their control panel. You select the domain name, and then Details and then NameServers tab. I have mine set to DAN without issue.

It is true that there is not the option, as far as I can see, to set up various other DNS records (I may just not know how to do it).

For transfer you can unlock and have the Auth Code emailed to your contact email. For the 4 or so I have transferred it came quickly. They do, after you transfer, send an email to reject or expedite the transfer with an approval, and for me that took a number of hours, but did work without problem.

The registrations are actually through PromoPeople, even though the controls are through HostPapa account.

I find their web hosting good value and works well, and I have used them for a number of years. I only register domains there when they have a good deal on a few. I prefer registrars that are Afternic and Sedo premium network fast transfer (which they are not as far as I know) and that have their own marketplace. But for cheap enough it is worthwhile. I had zero problems with the ones i transferred out.

I moved out 6 from them earlier this month (they were all outside the 60 day lock period). I used the control panel to unlock the domain name, then used the control panel to request the Auth Code that arrived in my associated email almost instantly, I then went to the registrar I wanted to move them to, initiated the transfer. Now unlike some places I did not get the reject or expedite email from them until the next day, at which point I approved the transfer and it happened right away. In other words it was as smooth as any other registrar for transfer. Note that they do NOT have a push option, as far as I can tell, so within the 60 day lock period you will not have an option, however.

If anyone is buying make sure you turn off the extra stuff that is automatically added and that you get the price expected before you pay. For me I had to process them as 5 separate orders, but maybe I was missing something with a cart. And if same as in their late November special, there is a significant delay after you pay until they are set up in your account. For me the delay ranged from a few hours to just over a day (and I am from Canada and already a customer so that probably expediated things as HostPapa I think started as a Canadian company 16 years ago).

The main downsides, that you have to weigh in deciding if price is worth it are...
  • No push so can't sell during lock period (I think - perhaps through customer service by a request possible?)
  • They are not a fast-transfer premium network registrar for Afternic or Sedo
  • I don't think it is possible to add DNS records so the Sedo verification could only be done via the DNS pointing to their parking (I might be wrong). It is of course easy to set the DNS settings themselves, so no problem pointing to your lander. There is an Epik work around for the other records, I think.
I decided it was worth it to buy a few, and once 60 days past will list them for sale at DAN and my own website.

1 billion thanks for your really great answer :)
I contacted their Chat and they confirmed that internal push must pass by their support ticket system.

Do they accept paypal?
Yes I used PayPal there today!

I usually avoid these new unknown registrars
Note that HostPapa is far from new - have been in business 16 years, although their main focus is providing web hosting and related services. Their domain registrations are handled by another company (at least for .com) (PromoPeople) although the doomain names appear in your HostPapa control panel.
