legal Oops! Afternic gets a UDRP while not the actual registrant

A domain that was sold via Afternic in 2015 became the focus of a UDRP filing.

Five years after the sale occurred, the WHOIS didn't change at GoDaddy, and still displayed the "Afternic Escrow" information when a mattress manufacturer decided to file the UDRP.

The surprise twist that helped save the domain can be seen here.

like Add.com is listed @Sedo for 50K, yet sold for $800k at most recent NamesCon auction?

Why is β€œseller’s asking price $50k?” lies sedo..

Are you having trouble focusing on the subject of this post?

Sedo is not a part of this. And it's not a listing issue, is a WHOIS issue.

It reminds me of forgetting to update listing, since Whois outdated... semantics aside,

i consider it an industry problem, thankfully this one with afternic outdated whois resolved. let’s focus on improving, who knows if list may lead big problems down the line... Let’s solve fixed, much like outdated Whois 5 yrs ago, so no one pays price. Didnt mean to hijack thread.., anything β€œout dated” is all the same

The difference is in "Seller's asking price" (Make offer / Negotiation start above $50k) vs "Buy Now Price".

No worries, Samer. But this case is interesting because the domain was sold on Afternic, but retained the WHOIS info after the transfer to the buyer's GoDaddy account. So when the UDRP arrived, GoDaddy pointed at...Afternic. :)

Ahh, misleading but OK :-P
