Hello beginners...

There are a lot of difficulty and roadblocks that come when we start out. Although we are totally capable of handling it on our own, if someone could help us, the process would be accelerated
And hence, this thread. If you are facing difficulty with anything, I'd recommend to spend half an hour on it and if you still can't find the solution, post it in this thread as comment.

Either me or someone on the community will try to resolve your issue as soon as we can.

If there is anything else you wish to share, that's good as well. Share it in the comments.

You may mark your post as QUESTION or COMMENT at the beginning so that we know whether you need help with something or sharing some of your experiences with us here.

Question: I'm new to domaining and I've been building a portfolio primarily through drop-catching using Dynadot API. I can get so-so names, but when it comes to the good names, I get beat out every time. Many times its by other dynadot users (at least that's where the name gets registered) or just as often the name ends up in a China registry. They all seem to be able to beat me at will. I feel like I'm missing something. Any suggestions or explanations?

Not in relation to my needs but wanted to post a thank you to this OP , very kind and helpful person. Good things will come to you. You were there to appraise my poop domains as a noob and it was just awesome at that time. Good karma to you Arpit.

My knowledge is Snap names back order is your go to. But as for api you will get preference from some registrars pending higher annual spending. So others likely have this preference and get priority.

In my opinion no.
I suggest going for most TLDs registered.

Or what your thinking works with brandable but homely is the right catch

Depends on your budget, time frame for which you are investing, returns you are expecting and a lot of other factors. I'd advice you to read more threads about domain name investing before actually going ahead with investing.

Is Homeley.co a good shot?
.co is mostly a numbers game. If you have a portfolio of them which are decent, it is less risky and have a higher chance of yielding decent return versus going for a single name. That's my experience.
You should check out an article on .co investing by Nikul Sanghvi, here on NamePros. Just search for it in the search bar and you'd come across it. Read through it. It's insightful.

Hi Ken, there are many many many big players in this business. Ssome players have 100's of companies under the same umbrella. You can look at the IANA registrars here https://www.iana.org/assignments/registrar-ids/registrar-ids.xhtml It is surprising you are able to get some names.
Thanks for the info, it's interesting. There are a lot of terminated registrars. But it sounds like as a beginner you're telling me I don't have a chance. I'd like some useful information on getting names.

Use GoDaddy brokers to get those 5k domains down to 2k

I've called in and made offers on several. I got CryptoFashion.com for 3.5k down from 9k

They placed offer, called back with rejection, next day called me back and the owners accepted it... It isn't a great name but I think if CryptoWorld can make 190k in 2019, then CryptoFashion will grow in value as merchandise and the Cypherpunks of the world wear crypto gear.

You never know what's coming.

The afternic brokers are the absolute worst for the sellers ,You may have tried to buy a crypto name off of me ,that was listed by me for 17888 at name silo and not priced at gd/afternic ,I left a message with the broker ,and told him ,I’m not at home and I have no internet service I’ll let you know if I still have the domain. When I called him later he bs me that they found another name because it was too much , they dident give me even 5 hours to price it ,when I called him he said he can open it back up,never heard from the guy again,2 days later I tried to delete afternic account ,the manager said he will get to the bottom of it ,never heard from them again, they are the worst, the buy service is even more corrupt,I had a 3500 offer a couple months ago when I accepted the broker said he’s not getting”” back to me but I’m sure I can convince him I threw him a couple freebee hand regges that dropped I’m not making this up test your names as a buyer ,open another gd account ,they don’t work for you they work for the buyer and will just show them something else they have,I think now that frank S sold out unless you got bin on your domain they will just market one of his domains ,so basically we’re paying 20 percent for a bin page or to be picked up by gd system, why don’t someone from gd contact me joe styler and I’ll give you the name of the buy service guy that should be fired ,listen to the tape of our conversation see if I’m lying. Everybody thinks there up and up but the whole afternic crew is corrupt and cover for each other,I basically know there exact response when I ask them questions, other members please post similar experiences you have with these scam artists

Hey everyone, i am also a newbie domain name investor and i have so many questions in my head!

One such question is regarding same domain names that have different extensions. So for example, if John A owned BrandTraffic.com, would he be able to stop me from registering and selling BrandTraffic.co.uk?

Please can someone help with this query? Many thanks!

They couldn’t stop you ‘unless’ their domain is a trademarked name, then the chances of them stopping you would greatly increase.

An important FYI on this, is don’t waste your money and time ‘ever’ on registering trademarked names!!! It’s a losing cause!

Only 2 sales listed on NameBio for this extension, both over 12 years ago, so probably not a good or worthwhile extension to waste money on.

Domain Price Date Venue
sex.net.pl 1,904 USD 2008-12-23 Sedo
hotel.net.pl 1,360 USD 2007-12-13 Sedo

Great idea for a thread, thanks!
QUESTION: I am new to domaining and I was wondering about the domain valuation tools online and why there is such a massive discrepancy between them? I know that I should take their results with a bucketful of salt and I know that each tool probably uses different AI or algorithms etc to assess a domain and they cant place value on what humans would consider brandable.
Is there anyone tool that you found to be more accurate in reality than the others or should they all be ignored entirely?
Example:
I recently purchased a brandable 5L . com domain from godaddy auctions. I ran it through 3 tools just to check. Results below:

Estibot: Less than 100$
Go Daddy: 1304 $
Free Valuation: 22, 640$

Looking forward to any insights you have :)
Thanks
