Before I place a bid I DM the seller letting him know that I will not bid if he is going to repeat my username in some post he might make as having placed a bid. More often than not before he even responds he has already started tagging others, and that means...I'm out.

The main reason for my policy is that later, when the auction ends and is cleaned up, it's too much work to keep bothering the selling to also remove my name and his repeated reference to the domain name from every post he made.

Tagging members in the marketplace

For the tagging, I suppose maybe a suggested trend would be to have people add something to their first or latest bid.

$1 [no tags]
$1 [only tag for BIN changes]
$1 [only tag for reasons X or Y]

In that case the only rule change NamePros would actually need to add is that sellers must respect the tag requests of buyers.

Unfortunately tag requests could only be done with bids, otherwise I'm sure there would be collusion and people would use the excuse to "bump" the auction threads for their friends.
We'd like to better understand what you're suggesting because a rule about tagging may be a useful addition for everyone. Please elaborate.

For respecting tag requests, we could (and have in the past) apply rule 1.2 to anyone who does not respect someone's wishes regarding tagging them.

That's a fair point. We are going to try to think of a way to improve that.

If you have any suggestions, please let us know.

Not really complicated. Basically what I mean is that people add their tagging options along with their bid if they have one:

$10 [no tags]
No tags = Don't tag for any reason

$8 [only tag for BIN changes]
Only tag BINs = Only tag when you change the BIN

$1 [only tag for reason(s) X]
Only tag for reason X = Only tag for whatever reason(s) specified
(I only added this because I didn't really overthink all the possible potential reasons people would or wouldn't want to be tagged).

First number is the usual bid. Then in brackets (or whatever) add your tagging request.

That works.

Why is that unfortunate? In the event that bidders forget to add it with their bids, they could always send a direct message to inform the seller.

The tricky part is that sellers may have trouble managing all of these requests, especially if there are a lot of them (i.e., multiple members across multiple listings, where the same members may have different requests depending on how much they value a particular listing). If we had a rule for it explicitly, we wouldn't be able to be as lenient with it, and it seems like these situations would benefit from context (e.g., was the seller intentionally disregarding your requests or simply forgot?).

We could help remove tags of you from marketplace listings if you made it clear on NamePros beforehand that you did not want to be tagged.

As OP mentioned this is annoying I can understand doing it once, but with every bump it becomes annoying, and just floods your notifications with jargon. Hopefully namepros finds a better way to enforce it. We only have so much time to go thru content, no need wasting people’s time with so many tagged bumps on sub $10 auctions.

I think you ask people on their first bid, would you like to be tagged when buy it now is set? A few hours left. Never on a bump or $1 increase.

I agree with tld above...tag if/when BIN is posted and/or lowered and a 'reminder' when the auction has 3 (or something) hours left.

Right, because sometimes people get mad when they didn't know about a buy it now.
