advice What would you do?

I had a domain name at Bodis but sold it some years back. The new owner has left it there with my contact details. A potential buyer for the name wants to buy it and gives a figure. I get the message. The new owner can be found via whois. I don't know if the buyer has tried that already.

I could -
Tell the buyer I am not the owner and leave it at that,
Do the above and point them to my sales page that has similar domains at a lower price,
Contact the new owner and tell them they have a potential buyer,
Try to act as a broker for either the buyer or seller,
Offer a lower price to the seller, buy it for myself and then sell for a higher price to the buyer.

So what would you do?

Keep honestly attitude to potential buyer and new owner, you are still be able to make a profit based that situation. Or you could buyback before offer that name to potential buyer.

I would use this opportunity to sell my domains. But offcourse letting him know that I no longer own that one. I believe it could create a trusting realtionship

Whatever you intend to do, do not, I repeat DO NOT ever pay money for a domain that has a supposed "offer" on it unless the payment is already in your account.

It could be a scam run by the current owner, it could be some penniless kid playing games, it could be anyone but a real buyer.

Try, if you can, to register/buy a similar domain and offer him for less the price of current one he wants.

You could buy the name back try sell it until realize were tricked into purchasing it again. Not first time seen this.

Today I had another inquiry via Bodis about a second domain name that I used to own, with the same extension as the first one. The telephone number and IP address of the second inquiry leads to an architects firm in Scotland, a business unrelated to the domain name. They have a website that does not show the name of the inquirer.

The telephone number and IP address of the first inquiry leads to a website in India that shows the photo and bio of the inquirer. Their business is also unrelated to the domain name.

Something fishy here?

My first thoughts were be careful as I seen this game before.

Really should tell current owner if they don't change the Whois to theirs they really are putting the domain in jeopardy because the Whois is wrong.

They theoretically lose the domain.

See how quick they act then.

Always funny to me how people only act when it's their own skin on the line. Someone else's skin? Not so much.

Also this thread gave me flashbacks. Lol
