I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

same with the 10 i found earlier this month.

This "slots strategy" to selling domains never works.

No, the only potential risk to it would be on CANADA.COM and there is likely no risk at all there, as I don't know any country as idiotic and petty as France who would even attempt such a scam and then get as lucky as to have the registrar immediately transfer it, no questions asked .

I believe the name was at NETSOL at the time. Reason #669 to not trust NETSOL.

You also have to wonder how that really transpired, as France has access to a whole lot of Euros.

How it transpired and how the original owner has yet to get it back. I haven’t heard any news on it lately.

Personally, I have not sold an LLL in a long time and have had zero interest in terms of offers, and I have some that might be viewed as premium, and lots without any low-end letters. The sales charts lean toward single-words so I'm sure why someone would register them all at this point in time.

LLL's aren't a great investment. If someone reg'd the last 300 and set a price of $100K, well, they have a reality check coming in a year at renewal time.

15 years ago, there were still thousands available. I cherry picked the best 500 I could find. Then Dicker bought the rest. I think it was like either $30K or $50K worth... He ended up letting the most of his go. Ouch. I held for a long time, but eventually let probably 250-300 or so of them go, but have since picked up the odd one here and there. I currently have about 250 of them. I only sell about 2 per year on average, so its still profitable for me, but, if you're the one who just bought the remaining scraps (and then set the price at $100K), I wish you the best of luck! It's funny that it seems to happen every year or so though. Mark your calendars, we'll see them all in a year again...

The most I've ever sold one for was 8500. Those were fairly random letters, nothing premium though, I have 5fig+ prices on anything really good.

Yeah, but most of them were junk, with only a few hundred viable ones he ended up keeping - I would easily bet there were/are a similar amount of resellable domains on the last two TBRs, which included over 16,000 total options (total LLLs possible = 17,576) so there are similarities.

Basically it's been a very good 2 weeks on the TBR.

Thanks for sharing @rlm.

On another note... Does anyone know if all Sedo sales show up on namebio, and how long it usually takes for them to show?

I assume they do report everything since there are few small sales that have been reported recently, but I also made a sale in late January which hasn't been reported yet (meanwhile they announced the sale of Jane.ca which occurred about 10 days after mine).

It took more than 2 weeks to complete the transaction so im guessing that has something to do with the delay, but im also curious to see what the "sold date" will be (if they ever do post it).

.
They only get reported if they are $2000 or more, or if they are in a Sedo auction. They also have an option that buyer or seller can pay 1.5% to have the sale not disclosed. I believe that they show up very quickly, within a day or two - certainly the auction ones that are automatically scraped from feed do.

The NameBio Sedo sales median and averages are somewhat deceptive, since there are probably many more sales in $100 to $1999 range that are not reported. You do see some sales that are not auction but below $2000 reported, I presume because the seller, or buyer, reported them individually.

Thanks @Bob Hawkes. I'm guessing those smaller sales reported must have started with an offer and were then pushed to auction.

My sale was a bin at 1K so I guess it won't be reported. Nothing "amazing" but it was a quick flip and I was hoping it would be reported for statistic's sake (and to add 1 more sale to January).

Any sale can be added to NameBio through sending the details (price, date, venue) and a capture of the confirmation to Michael at NameBio, should you wish to do that. Always nice to see more .ca sales in the database :xf.smile:.

Thanks. I might just do that.

Just to confirm, the 1.5% the buyer can pay to keep things private is only ever an option for sales above 2K? I imagine they would notify the seller in such cases? I never heard of that before but i also haven't had many sales at Sedo.

I just checked and it is now 2.5%. This is all they say. It is on the Sedo Price List page.
"Optional confidentiality: If the buyer does not wish to publish the sale of the domain name and its price, Sedo will charge an additional fee of 2.5% of the gross selling price (note the minimum fee)"

Does this apply to all sales, or only those sold through brokerage?

After doing a quick search it seems the option may be limited through brokerage, but I'm still not 100% certain.

I just came across this "promoted" Tweet.

I thought the illegal weed mail delivery websites were pretty brazen, but this is other level. Not sure how they get away with it but i recently read that a bunch of the illegal .CA weed websites are getting taken down.

Basically it's been a very good 2 weeks on the TBR.

When I did my 500 cherry picks, there were none that included the traditional bad letters, so they were definitely not horrible, and some of them were still pretty good, but obviously not any one-worders or anything like that. I have had 14 sales out of the 200-ish I kept, but there were definitely slow years in the beginning.

i've bought an additional 50 or so LLL's in TBR's and portfolio acquisitions, of definitely higher quality (but at higher costs) and have had only 4 sales out of that group (but am asking much higher prices for some of those). So overall, they have a slightly better sales ratio over a shorter period of time.

I was looking at all the LLL sales on namebio in addition to my own. I was surprised to see how many were bought by speculators, even for significant prices, namely, flu, red, wig, day, run, ben, ten, bad, etc...

I also did a breakdown on which letters are most popular. I first removed all the sales to other speculators, plus sales that were based on words rather than acronyms (clearly things like eau and paw were valued based on it being a 1-word more than it being an LLL).

So, of the acronym based end-user sales, below is the breakdown of letter popularity. Note that 2 of the "p" that I counted were technically not a LLL, it was an LNL (p4p) that I sold.

I've bolded the traditional western bad letters (J, K, Q, U, V, W, X, Y and Z), they are remarkably accurate, with only "w" jumping from the bottom to actually better than average. Also note that ALL letters did record a sale, personally I have not sold an LLL with the letters J, K, Q, T, X.

QTY Letters/Numbers
(2) y
(3) k q z
(4) j u
(5) v x
(6) t
(7) d h n
(8) a m o
(9) e b r w
(10) c s
(11) l
(13) f g
(16) i
(17) p

He's referring to cherry picking any domains in TBR, not just the LLL's. So yes, the TBR game is 100% cherry picking.

Yeah, definitely going to be a good week for MyID & Sibername... I think better than last week due to the volume of domains going into auction this time around.
