Hi,

I am not sure if this is right question to ask, I have been looking around internet about domain flipping, there are many courses which teaches on how to flip domain for profits.

Many even claim to make 1000s of dollars in just a day or week by investing a small portion in buying expired domain and then reselling them.

But I was not completely convinced on this, does this really so ? Is domain flipping so profitable? and is it really a genuine business if some one wish to take as career?

The profitability of any venture depends on the following factors (just to name a few):

1) Your level of commitment and dedication
2) Your level of expertise and ability to learn
3) Your level of interest
4) Grit, grit, grit

You're going to get out of it what you put into it. Learn and master your craft and it will pay off.

when you can erase domain flipping from your vocabulary

only then, when you begin to learn

imo….

its a question most peple ask when they begin.
including myself

the answer is yes, people make profit from domains

is it easy.. no. it will take a learning curve of many months, smetimes few years.. of hard work and learning and in many cases lost money at first.. and then if you persist, and work hard, like for any job or task in life, you will begin to make profit.

so like anything in life, what you get out of domaining is what you put in.. effort wise.. time wise.. etc...

if you expect quick easy results, domaining isnt for you.

you should also know that namepros here, is the best way to learn domaining for starters. hope this helps. cheers.

There a LOT of successful veterans around you can learn from. Experiment with various strategies, niches and techniques to find out what works for you.

For the purpose of explanation, let us liken domaining to car sales. As a car salesman, there a variety of car makes and models you can buy and sell. There are also an assortment of auctions and wholesalers you can buy from. The possibilities are SO many. The idea is to find the right category of products that YOU can find buyers for. Yes, the profit margin on Bentleys may be high, but you may not have access to Bentley buyers or know how to interact with customers of that caliber. In that case, selling Nissan Sentras may be more profitable for you.

You also have to understand that learning is going to cost you some money. Think of all your pitfalls as lessons and keep moving on.

If you fail, fail forward.

The first thing you should figure out is what kind of start up budget you have?

Do you have $50, $100, $500, $1,000?

Different strategies will apply to different amounts.

In the area where I live retail rents are fairly high. So it is quite common to see a restaurant or store open and then within six months to a year close. Those businesses had occasional sales but closed because their expenses were much higher. The demand for the product or service they were offering was too low relative to the cost of providing it.

Example - a domain investor acquires 100 domains at $10 each with $10 annual renewals and decides to maintain a constant inventory of 100 domains - replacing sold domains after each sale. Average industry turn is IMO below 1% but portfolios can be profitable with different average sales prices and varying turnover ratios. However, aftermarket domain sales are rather infrequent so the margins needed to be cash flow positive are much higher than traditional retail.

Meraghu, you are wise to question the claims you've heard about domaining. As others have said, it's not a way to get rich quickly and takes a lot of time to learn and understand. The ideal way to start is to have a separate income you can depend on and slowly begin buying domains as you learn the business and decide if it suits you.

Spend lots of time reading through the threads here (there are several others on this topic), then you can gradually develop a strategy that works for you.

Good luck in your new venture!

For longevity, think quality...not quantity. The shotgun approach to domaining is generally not successful in the long term.

Become expert in any profession you'll make lots of money.Don't just jump because you heard people are making money. You never know what struggle someone faced before making a profit. Most of the time you make more money if you are not thinking about making money but passionate about something. Money comes automatically.
