Go.Holdings sold for $19 000 at SEDO 2 weeks ago, as reported by dnpric.es.

There is no resolving webpage at the time of writing, so it will be interesting to see how the domain name will be used. Quick google search shows there are some obvious end user who might utilise the name well.

Side note: there are approx. 5850 .holdings domain names registered at the moment of writing, and 1 reported sale of .holding so far in namebio.com.

This sale again confirms that strong and simple english keywords are the key to achieve higher sales with new gTLD domain names.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Given activation date of 01-2020 looks to be registry sale, as well given lower renewal of $50, otherwise it would be $100+ if pre released back in 2014 I believe.

One reported sale for one of the older extensions is pretty dismal.

But the creation date was over a year ago (Jan 7, 2019)? Are not most of the registry sales listed as a creation usually only a matter of days or weeks before the sale, or does that vary with registry? Never really looked into .holdings TLDs or how they are handled.

The domain name had been listed for sale at DAN and Flippa (and it sold at Sedo), perhaps other places. I have not tried to dig into whether I can find a web archive showing the seller.

I used DomainIQ to see if I could determine anything about the owner, but it is all cloaked. I had wondered if it was possibly related to the recent Go rebranding (that would be very interesting :xf.wink:), but it appears not since it is registered at Gandi until 2022 now.

I hope we will soon learn who the user is, and perhaps more about the sale.

Thanks for letting us know, @Brands.International.

Doesn't look like a registry sale to me. Someones $50 investment just made them a bundle!

My guess is someone had bought it in September or October of 15 back when Donuts released many of the two character names, then they failed to renew in 2018, then it dropped probably in December of 2018, and it didn't get picked up for a few weeks. Great score whoever you are! This is why you should patrol for drops!

I just checked, and it seems to be the one and only sale in the .holdings TLD in the NameBio database! :xf.eek: Quite the start for the TLD with a 5-figure sale!

It is the 6th highest sale of the exact word Go in NameBio (list here). Not surprisingly Go.pro leads the list, although sales in .top and .exchange in 2018 also in mid 5-figures each.

The renewal seems way to low to a re-release by Donuts, I thought Donuts is holding everything back.

Most 2L's are $75-$118+, so why would a keyword like "GO" be at $42?

To.Holdings $80 renewal
Bo.Holdings $120 renewal

all of which are available, so why would GO, be half, or a third of that?

Usually on registry sales, at higher amounts from platinum club, they keep the renewals lower, on the bigger sales.

It is registry sale imho.

I think Donuts's go.xxx domains were not available for public registration.

Donuts is competing against domainers now by holding best drops back and then listing them for sale on Dan, Sedo etc. They listed for sale on Dan more than 10,000 reserved domains already.

Someone attending NamesCon now, please ask Donuts reps about their competition practices against domainers.

I am not at NamesCon in 2020 but I suspect part of their answer will be that in 2019 they released over 700,000 names that they had been holding at premium, to become simple standard registration. Also they strongly reduced the premium on about another 300,000. I am not sure if this is an official line, but when I visited their booth last year the (can't remember his name) person I talked to was enthusiastic about the idea of domainers working with them in finding users for certain premium or platinum names in return for a portion of the proceeds.

The way I view it is for a new domain investor when you invest in legacy you essentially are battling those who were in the industry 10+ years ago and hold high quality premium legacy names, while in the new gTLDs you are battling the registries who, as part of their financial sustainability, held back premium names to sell directly.

Usually on registry sales, at higher amounts from platinum club, they keep the renewals lower, on the bigger sales.
As I understand it (from talking at NamesCon Donuts booth last year) the platinum names are at near or at standard renewals? It seems a strange system to me that the platinum go for huge amounts, but low renewals, whereas the less elite premium go for lower amounts, but with continuing premium renewals. It looks like $40 to $85 is the range for some nice short words in .holding - e.g. I tried top.holdings and the.holdings and they were both in that range for renewal.

I thought Donuts is holding everything back
As mentioned above, while Donuts obviously depend on premiums to fund their model, they actually released a lot of premium this year.

Anyway, hopefully we will know at some point for sure who the seller was, as well as end-user. I suspect whatever the situation it will prompt some people to look more at the TLD. :xf.cool:

Their release of 700,000 names was changing the pricing from sky-high to just very high. There was a tiny fraction of really premium names among those 700,000 released "premiums". Those were Rightside strings which generally are much worse than original Donuts ones, plus Rightsise was known for unreasonably high pricing due to which they failed.

So what Donuts did/do is they released overpriced domains of medium to low quality while keeping holding back real premiums.

I asked a person that works at Donuts about it, and they said they think it was a registry sale, but not certain.

With the new branding at godaddy to just go I predict more sales in all extensions with the keyword go.

Hey wait.... I think I said that already!

That is nice, but it has nothing to do with this sale imo :)

Just google it a bit and (I think) obvious buyer is clear.

small hint: 3 large pillars swimming in the sky ....:)
