I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I have their discount club so my auction listings are free.

Because my domains are registered at godaddy they are automatically verified and the domain ownership moves to my account. I never get a domain is already listed because they know I own it.

I have moved almost 600 domains to godaddy from my collection because I wanted to streamline all of that. It's inevitable that they get another 800 or so over the next year as they come due.

I have a couple of secret selling techniques at godaddy that make me a good deal of money so the domain club pays for itself.

Tell us your secrets!! :P Shill bidding perhaps? Lol

GoDaddy is a tool if you know how to use it to your full advantage.

All on the up and up no shill or funny stuff.

I have the discount club membership. I thought that’s what you meant previously about cost, but I misread.

Yep, and I initially thought the GD Discount Club also offered free auctions, but it was only due to the Domain Club including a free GD Auctions membership.

It all amounts to the same thing, I was just trying to figure out exactly what services each GD service offered.

To Be Released (TBR) Weekly .CA Picks for January 29, 2020

The .CA numbers dropped back to just above the 8,000 domain line and just barely extended our 8K+ streak – the only reason it did was due a portion of last week’s list (like 154.CA) not making it to the TBR selection run, and being repeated this week. The same as last week, there are many candidates for the “Hall of Very Good”, and our weekly Top Picks List features...

Multi-Word .CAs Aged to Perfection

It isn’t so straight forward adding domains that are not registered with Godaddy, so it might be more work than you’d like. It’s just a matter of adding a TXT record or whatever but I always had trouble getting it to work. I only have about 20 domains registered elsewhere so I haven’t bothered figuring it out. I’m sure if anyone can figure it out it’s you.

Yep, just like clockwork I get a ton of individual emails stating GD needs to confirm ownership, giving me my "secret code", telling me what to do.... why the hell isn't this information on their site, as I could have easily done it beforehand. You even told me about it, but I didn't have a code or anywhere to find one.

But I guess then GD couldn't give me their "Please forward your domains to GD if you want to avoid this" sales pitch. :xf.cool:

I can also confirm that any offers on domains listed on Afternic but not Godaddy, will be handled through Afternic (even if the offer was made via Godaddy). I did that test yesterday and just got this email now, with all the annoying things mapledots mentioned (plus it's a bit misleading, and doesn't mention the bid was $20):

So what happens if you have the domains at Afternic and at GD, but at different minimum bids?

I'm guessing there are glitches occasionally, but Godaddy's minimum bid will show if searched on GD, regardless of what your minimum bid is on Afternic.

HaHa

Yup, that drove me nuts, I was getting this email hundreds of times.
I finally went in and removed all domains from afternic.

I don't get that on godaddy

I'm more wondering about if I get a nibble on GoDaddy, if that will initiate the "pricing email" on Afternic.

No, not if your domain is actually listed on Godaddy's auction marketplace. Godaddy will contact you about the offer, and then you go to Godaddy's auction marketplace to counter.

That's what I assumed, but with GD and Afternic being so interlinked, it just makes me wonder.

I basically ignore the godaddy emails unless they get to 1k but I do track which domains get the inquiries because with so many domains it at least lets me know which ones people are considering.

I was going to let a domain expire last month and then realized it had over a dozen small offers. I did not even see the offers because my email filters them. Upon renewal I search the domain name and saw a dozen godaddy offers. That made me change my mind and renew the domain because maybe just maybe someone will eventually pony up a little higher.

I also track direct hits on the domain via my homepage but an offer of any sorts is better tracking than a hit to the domain address.

I still list everything I can on both since I did sell a few domains on Afternic, and figured it gives my domains more exposure, but not sure if that's true or if it helps. Somehow I doubt someone will go search for domains on Afternic before Godaddy, but maybe Afternic has a more comprehensive MLS system?

If someone wants your domain they will come to you, a number of times when I ignore a godaddy response (under 1k) the person will go to my lander and contact me through there. If I sell the domain direct I will knock $50 off the price and sell for $950.

Thanks for sharing. Do you use escrow.com when people contact you directly?

Ooooh, La-Te-Da.

Well... I have my own credit card machine... and my butler brings it to me... and I make him punch in the numbers!

I suppose I should've started it off. The majority of Canada has probably been in the store or at the least, walked right by one. TheSource.ca.
Wow! (y)

All I can say is that you'd think they'd try and buy the domain name before announcing a major rebranding effort. The domain had been registered 4 years prior to their announcement, but, you can be sure the price went up significantly on that day!

Its like when Canadian Tire bought Triangle.ca

I think they picked it up incognito at around 6k

And we're off!

Not a great week to be sure, but good luck to those who are playing.

To Be Released (TBR) .CA Results & Leftovers for January 29, 2020

The TBR list dropped to just over 8,000 expired domains, the fifth week in a row at 8K or more, and what this TBR list lacked in terms of high-end premiums, it made up for in sheer quanitty. Some of the notable Top 10 picks included...

Thanks for sharing. Do you use escrow.com when people contact you directly?

I use my inhouse credit card machine, I have my own merchant account.

For me, Escrow has nothing to do with payment processing. The entire purpose of escrow.com is to give the buyer a level of comfort and security and that they're not about to get ripped off. So I always offer to invoice them and accept payment directly, or optionally to use an escrow service such as escrow.com. I explain that its a great service but that it comes with additional fees to the buyer, as well as the currency hassles. I also explain that I too use it all the time when I don't know/trust the seller on a large transaction - and that I certainly won't be offended if you prefer to use escrow for the same reasons too. Then I tell them it's their choice.

If it's a foreign customer, the vast majority choose Escrow.com because it actually solves the currency issue for them. It also solves the risk issue for them, which is perceived to be significantly higher since they are dealing with another country's laws if shit goes sideways.

If its a Canadian customer, I find they are generally happy to bypass Escrow.com and trust me. Then again I'm fairly transparent, I have a website, whois is not private, I send an invoice with my GST#, etc... If you're not as transparent, there's going to be more distrust, pushing more people towards Escrow.com. Any business big enough to have their own lawyers will almost always do up their own domain sale/transfer agreement too.
