I would suggest you read through as many domain " buying and selling " discussions and threads as possible before you start spending any of your budget on domains.

Buying domains is easy - selling domains for most people is difficult.

Great that you started to read through the Forum - you have to decide for yourself which extension is best for you and your goals. I prefer to stay with mostly .coms although others on NamePros have had success with other extensions.
