I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

Good luck, and I think (after getting 2 more lowballs this morning) my strategy is to add satisfactory BINs to a portion of my listings (the ones with some interest and traffic) and see how that goes. If they don't sell, at least I won't get the same lowballers filling up my inbox.

I switched some names that I had some lowball offers on over to DAN.com and set some reasonable BIN's. That seems to have solved that problem. No more lowball offers - no offers at all on those names, lol!

Hey, who wants to win a..

JUNO.CA

How in the hell did this one expire and why hasn't the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts (CARAS) ever acquired this? Boggles my mind when the obvious connections are never made

No idea, and they go with junoawards.ca instead.

And places like Sedo and Afternic require a counter-offer before you can refuse the initial lowball, which is idiotic as these jokers always let the counter sit there for the X days allowed (usually 7-10 days), taking your listing offline and unable to be sold to anyone else.

I remember Domain Shane was complaining about this, as he gets the same lowballers hitting his Afternic/GD listings over and over, then jacking him with the "7-day delay".

I agree it sucks that you can't cancel the negotiations right away on Sedo and Afternic.

One thing I've recently learned about domains listed directly on GoDaddy's auction marketplace is that you can continue to submit counter-offers even after the 7-day deadline has expired (unlike Sedo and Afternic). This has its advantages for the seller, especially when you might have aimed too high in your counter-offer and scared the buyer away. You can essentially submit an unlimited amount of counter-offers (indefinitely, i think), which gives you the power to be the annoying one. lol

Anyway, I only bring this up because it I recently closed a sale this way and thought it was worth sharing. It went like this:
  • The person made a $50 offer on a .ca domain i own (minimum bid was $20).
  • I countered at 2200 (too high considering i only bought the domain 2 months ago for $10).
  • The buyer disappeared and the time expired (i regretted aiming too high).
  • A couple weeks later I then countered again at $1250 (even though the deadline passed).
  • The buyer responded with a $800 offer.
  • We closed the deal at $1000 USD.
I have to give props to @MapleDots for his recommendation to set minimum offers at $20 to see what kind of interest there might be. This strategy seems to work, at least on GD's auction marketplace where you can continue to haggle with the buyer even after deadlines have passed. Not sure if I could have reeled in the buyer without the first bite, and without the ability to continue submitting counter-offers even after the deadline passed.

Also, props to @DomainRecap. The domain i sold was discovered in his TBR leftovers list.

I have had it all, logos, fancy landers, you name it.

What works for me.....

1. GoDaddy bid starting bid at $20 but I don't respond until I get an offer over 1k. I put it at $20 to gauge interest and to see how many nibbles I get. That shows me what has interest when it is time to renew.

2. All domains point to a sales@mapldots email address

So in closing the two biggest things that worked for me....

Changing my email address from info@mapledots to sales@mapledots and listing everything super cheap at godaddy to get attention.

I may try that when I get around to repricing some of my domains.

I think that’s a good strategy for premium domains that you know are worth a lot, but I would at least respond to lowball offers on domains I handregged or bought for cheap. Plus the $20 minimum kinda invites lowballs, so why not try and see how high they are willing to go? I’m guessing you have too many domains and not enough time, but you must also have some domains that you would be willing to sell for 1K, no? Entering negotiations will also get your bid count up, which I feel could help get exposure (if someone filters domains by the amount of bids they have).

ive had all my names on gd auctions makeoffer only
starting at $20 for 4-5 years now
and out of all markets, all tlds combined, this resulted in best results for me... among all other markets.. where I also list same domains, makeoffer only, and lowest possible startprice..

now this is not same as saying that id not have better results on gd if I had say a binprice+makeoffer... but it does mean at least for me that gd auctions performs best among all markets...

for my portofolio size of couple thousand average, though now i am set on shrinking to few 100s domains, bin prices were never really feasible.

Yes I do but I sell nothing below 1k and silence has worked better for me than arguing with someone that says my domain is worth reg fee or something.

The sales@mapledots says it all, and I have nothing more to say, offer me a sale and I will answer. Offer me silly chit chat and I will ignore you, simple as that.

I know some of you may think it's odd but it seems to be working for me.

Okay, all my GD/Afternic domains have been lowered to a minimum bid of $20.

Let the lowballing begin!

Did you manually add them directly to Godaddy's marketplace, or just on Afternic so that they can be found on Godaddy?

I just use Afternic for the most part with .CA (i have some .COMs on GD marketplace), and they all seem to be showing with $20 minimum bids now.

K. It's definitely easier to bulk add domains via Afternic... but I'm not sure if it's all the same when it's listed on Afternic but not the Godaddy marketplace.

Afternic listings can certainly be found on Godaddy, but I don't know if you'll receive notification of the offer from Afternic or GoDaddy? I'm guessing you would receive notification of the offer via afternic if that's where it's listed and the domain isn't actually in your GD selling list. If so, then i imagine this would mean you need to respond to the offer (via afternic) and you won't have the option to counter after deadline expires.

I'm not 100% sure so I'm doing a test by placing a $20 bid on my own domain I searched on Godaddy that was only listed on Afternic (using a second account i have with GD).

Trying to explain this is making my head hurt, but know what I'm getting at?

Maybe @MapleDots knows the answer?

I don't list on Afternic, they drive me crazy...

So and so has inquired about your domain but has not made an offer yet. Please go in and set floor, set this, set that, let one of our sales reps bother the heck out of you and give us our enormous commission.

I deleted all domains there, godaddy I bulk list, it takes about 10 seconds to list hundreds of domains at a time.

So listing on GoDaddy is free if you have paid the annual auction membership right?

Yep, but it’s only 7.99 for a year membership. Or the same price for two years...? See the screenshot below.

I've been on GoDaddy auctions for a while, I just didn't know it covered all auctions in large quantities.

I knew stuff was free + bonus features for domains registered *at* GoDaddy (auction wins, etc.), but I've never experimented with listings I had on other Registrars.

It isn’t so straight forward adding domains that are not registered with Godaddy, so it might be more work than you’d like. It’s just a matter of adding a TXT record or whatever but I always had trouble getting it to work. I only have about 20 domains registered elsewhere so I haven’t bothered figuring it out. I’m sure if anyone can figure it out it’s you.

How do you handle the inevitable "error - domain already listed" issue where the old owner never removed it?

I have contacts on speed-email on the other sales venues that take care of this for me ASAP, but there doesn't seem to be anything on the GoDaddy FAQ/Help files for a contact.

Cant say I know the specific email but I’m sure there’s one. I had the same thing happen to me at afternic. I just sent a list of the domains I wanted removed and they took care of it the same day without asking any questions.

I have their discount club so my auction listings are free.

Because my domains are registered at godaddy they are automatically verified and the domain ownership moves to my account. I never get a domain is already listed because they know I own it.

I have moved almost 600 domains to godaddy from my collection because I wanted to streamline all of that. It's inevitable that they get another 800 or so over the next year as they come due.

I have a couple of secret selling techniques at godaddy that make me a good deal of money so the domain club pays for itself.

Yeah, that comes with a free auction membership.

I have the discount club membership. I thought that’s what you meant previously about cost, but I misread.
