So trying to transfer domains out of @namesilo to @epik.

several domains did not go thru because domains @namesilo were locked.

as a rule to make things go smooth I always unlock domains prior to transfer.

@namesilo though there is something MAGICAL going on.

say you look at your list and you see some domains locked and others unlocked and plan to transfer domains?

so naturally you unlock the locked domains yea?

well @namesilo the ones you unlock DO GET UNLOCKED.

but then magically the ones that were unlocked already BECOME LOCKED.

that's pretty slick..

glitch maybe?

let's see if they can look into this. with support right now.

I experienced this with different registrars. MyDomain (snapnames catches) for example. An easy solution: "lock" it again from the account. It says unlocked, so a link to lock should exist. This would therefore synchronize shown status (unlocked) with the reality (locked). As soon as it shows "locked" in the account - unlock it.

Do you even try to contact @namesilo ? Instead of making two quick threads about Namesilo , I believe you would have solved it with them quickly if you emailed them as they respond fast.

I have. the response that "this is the first time they are hearing about this"

even though I've seen it happen numerous times but I never bothered to contact them about it until now when domains I thought were unlocked weren't and the transfers at Epik failed because they were still locked.

The point is to post it here to inform and to make sure others don't get "caught out there"

imagine you unlock a domain. order transfers as they are close to redemption or expiring.

then forget about it because you went thru the list that shows pending outbound transfers in your namesilo account. you go thru them all because you have to do them one by one.

and like I just did. missed the ones that were locked.

it's easy enough to not bother because hey. you already went thru the unlock process for a bunch of domains.

you would "think" it's all done.

then you check your list and wala! there are domains that did not transfer because they have domain locks on them.

if I did not bother to check and assume everything was OK.

I'd have had domains go into redemption.

This could happen to anyone. expert or novice.

This is why I posted here about it. it's not that I can't get help at namesilo.

just want people to know so they don't end up in the same unique sitaution that can be costly.

You are missing a very important point here and I would tell you so you and other registrars can benefit from this piece of information. What is that information? The gaining registrar should inform you if a transfer is failing simply because the name is unlocked. Then you will not have issues like domains getting into redemption. I know some registrars do it and I know some dont bother and just mark the transfer as fail. I think you were not notified of the transfer fail and when you got notification of transfer then you found out the missing domains :)

to be perfectly honest. when you have a ton of domains to transfer and you get that same amount emails. you are better off to check your registry account to see which ones failed.

on Epik or any other registrar. if a transfer fails it just fails. you'd have to click manually each one to see which ones failed for wrong auth codes or locked domain.

so say you transferred 100 domains with a mix of domains with wrong auth codes and locked domains

you'd have to go thru all 100 just to find out that 20 were locked and thats why they failed.

I can't really blame the gaining registrar if it does not have the feature to let you know the domain failed because of lock.

to be honest it's just a blur of domain transfers to Epik right now lol

again the point is. it is EASY to lose a domain for something glitchy like this that's not even your fault

but it is your fault if you are a lazy domainer that doesn't pay attention. GUILTY! lol:xf.grin:

Blame the gaining registrar. That is the fair thing to do.

lol I really don't see how it's their fault.

Epik not differentiating between a transfer that failed because of wrong auth codes vs. domain lock is a corporate decision. It's pretty black and white to the customer so it's fair. if you TELL me the info you will provide is when a transfer fails? Then that is what it is.

Namesilo. If you give me the option to lock a domain or unlock it. IT SHOULD BE JUST THAT. pretty black and white too.

Things should always WORK as they are supposed to NOT how we THINK they should. But how they are SET UP to be. That's where the blame falls ultimately in this situation on Namesilo.

that and of course me for being a lazy domainer.

Can you please contact us at [email protected] with the respective details so our team can investigate these cases. @namesilo

I have sent it. There have been several occasions already where domains I unlocked were locked again when a certain set of domains that should have been unlocked were locked again. so when I unlock those domains. guess what? Some domains that were unlocked become locked again. it's a crazy cycle.

as it stands I could keep going thru this process never ending.

this situation as plenty of times ended up where a domain goes into redemption because I did not notice it wasn't transferred over due to the lock status. and I end up paying the redemption fees and keeping it with namesilo.
