A member on Namepros posted the launch of their new project on Rat.com. The service will charge users $2.99 a month for an ad free experience. Rat.com was conceived of by a group of developers who grew tired with the amount of trolls and fake profiles populating social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn today, themselves a broader extension of what many call "fake news". … [Read more...]

Rat is an odd choice. Shrew would have been cuter (Disclaimer: I own shrew.com)

If it's meant for China- it could work. The rat has good connotations there. If it isn't (the site is in English so it probably isn't meant specifically for China)- it's gonna be an uphill climb to succeed with such a negative name, especially for a social network. The domain was also reportedly stolen in the past. With low 6 figures a much better (and safer) domain could have been bought, IMO.

Very very interesting, a rat is yellow teeth nasty fuck, but perhaps they can brand their way out of the nasty little fella, I think TikToc fueled interest initially until the rumors of spying and stuff went mainstream.

a 2 factor authentication login process is a great feature to cut down on fake accounts and bot traffic.

I keep an open mind about any new website, best of luck with it owners.

I don't love the idea of providing two pieces of ID for the pleasure of using yet another social media platform. Having to pay $36 per year is an extra slap in the face.

I see what they're trying to do, but if the site has staying power then I suspect the number of users will be limited to a smaller, niche group. Can't see them competing with the likes of FB and Insta.

I believe a domain name like OVOCHAT.COM would sound more appealing to users.
