To start the new year...
Valve Index VR headset has sold out everywhere
https://www.techradar.com/news/valv...erywhere-is-this-a-problem-for-half-life-alyx
That one I knew well since I tried buying one in the new year.

Now add that to a Oculus Quest that is also 3 months behind on production I mentioned a few weeks ago and put in better perspective with this...

https://www.androidcentral.com/nearly-half-all-vr-headsets-sold-2019-were-oculus-quest
"But it's not just the number of units shipped or sold that's impressive. The amount of money going to developers of VR games on the Oculus Quest was so great that it increased VR gaming revenues 41% when compared to the industry at large in 2018. To put that in perspective, consumers spent a total of $171 million on standalone VR games during the year. By comparison, PC VR games only accounted for a total of $86 million in 2019. That means game sales from brand new headsets like the Oculus Quest were double that of established PC VR headsets that have been around for years."

This will attract the dev community to those profit potentials now and we are' finally' on our way !
YEP ! this is what I have been waiting all these years for and we all thought it was coming sooner than later, but, as I see it, the wait is over. But do not expect names demand to be immediate, it will take some 6 months or more for it to show in any meaningful way that can be measured in today's world of NDA's.
It's the new dev's entering the market that hold the keys to growth in names for our niche.

Among those I expect to see on top of the list would be names like VR(name a sport or recreation activity), So you might want to take the time to review any of your names for correct pricing depending on how fast you want to sell or hold out for the better money. It's a good time to throw out the trash (cheap) to sell into a surge in speculation.

Don't let me change your normal behavior, mine is also speculation looking at the numbers. :)

Tim Cook: ‘AR will pervade our entire lives’

... asked Cook about major developments in tech he expects in the next five to 10 years. “I’m excited about AR,” said the Big Tech CEO, citing augmented reality as an emerging tech space to watch. “My view is it’s the next big thing, and it will pervade our entire lives.”

Hopefully he's right, i don't have too many investments in AR as far is domains is concerned, but love the tech and it's potential.

On the subject of Tim Cook and Apple with AR...

I would be quick to point out that AR has the most POTENTIAL in MONETIZATION after the sale.
An Apple Core Value.

But that fact does not bring it to us any faster or cheaper. It's just why Apple sees the interest in heavy investment.
I would not expect their first AR product to be anything like a Hololens2. but more 'like' a Very Enhanced Updated Google Glass 'type' of device where you will have 'real time interactions' with the world around you but with a much better display system. Remember that google glass, if it were still around, would be more than 5 years old now and was $2K.

The monetization as 'I believe or see it' could be tremendous if they can sell enough units within it's first couple of years. So the cost needs to be minimal. I do not see Apple targeting Enterprise like most of the others who have a pretty expensive device that is out of reach for most consumers. Apple's will be a slim, inexpensive device targeting the consumer with that real time interaction to live events. But I do not see a large door opening for names for supporting developments in apps for it. But that may be something that changes with later revisions. I am only speaking to Apple and not AR as a whole.

The question then becomes how long or many revisions before they do to that holy grail of steps where many are incorrectly expecting this to be in the first place.... I am thinking at least 3. So that could be 6-8 years from now since we are waiting 2yrs for the first one.

It would be my speculation that it is more likely that their VR/AR device that could also be called a 'MIXED REALITY' device is where they intend to do any version of 'stereoscopic' AR. That will be out next year (2021) but the AR development for it may not be clear as it is released..

I say any and all of this for anyone to keep a grip on your expectations in what Apple has intended for consumer AR.. It could actually be more than I expect, but not by much.

I am not a big fan of stuff like this.
Right now, many of these co's are trying to build-up a facial recognition database (from photo and video), just because it has more future value to others in creating these type of profiles to know what you do and who you do it with and with apps like this, you are doing the work for them. They just provide the platform to do it and some enticing game/cool things to do.
I say that for background because there could indeed be a backlash against it when folks realize the what and how it all works. That is all a battle that will be fought sometime but nobody knows what for sure will trigger it.
One thing for sure is that everyone wants in on the game. Google is far behind facebook and is buying material and co's that can provide it at record pace.

Exactly. I’ve been keeping my sentiments about these technologies to myself, but in short, I perceive the cons to outweigh the pros. I submit stories like that one because they are relevant, not because I endorse the technology. It’s a “know your enemy” kind of thing.

Apple Patient for 'FINGER DEVICES' shows up
https://fox13now.com/2020/01/26/apple-files-patent-for-ar-and-vr-controlling-finger-devices/

I'm kinda thinking this would be for the VR HMD being released in 2021. I would expect a quest 'like' device.
But certainly could work with AR Glasses.

Remember that patients you see may not be a good idea on a final product as they are only meant to protect aspects of how it's done and intentionally vague.. And you could see additional in a follow up.
Right now it shows they are working on it anyway.
You have to wait for FCC filing to know when they are very close. As well with the HMD.

Lenovo runs for it's v2 stand alone,
FCC filing https://fccid.io/O57VR3030S
Rumor has it that this is for Enterprise. That may be so but not forever. It may just be pricey.

Atari to Open Gaming Hotels with Immersive VR/AR Experiences Across the US

https://www.xrcentral.com/atari-to-...th-immersive-vr-ar-experiences-across-the-us/

I saw this yesterday and did not get to finish reading. Thank you for the reminder. This is so neat and

Nolan Bushnell is The Grandfather of VR...owns some pretty sweet names along with his companies such as Atari(Founder)

Quoted from the shared article :

"
Atari Founder Could Provide Virtual Reality Technology
Atari is at present working on a modern retro-style game console known as Atari VCS. This is set to appear in March 2020 after having undergone multiple postponements.

Atari founder Nolan Bushnell and his company Modal VR have been in the virtual reality industry for quite some time. The startup is currently in the process of developing the infrastructure for location-based virtual reality multiplayer experiences for large areas.

Atari could leverage Bushnell’s technology which currently supports both Oculus Quest and Magic Leap. "-End Quote

I highlighted the green. As some of you know I've been a believer in the Terms "Location Based Entertainment" & Location Based Virtual Reality "(L/B/E & LB/VR). And both terms have been used more and more this past year, notably on LinkedIN.

I have a Great Portfolio of L/B/E & L/B/V/R keywords

I just added

L/BE & LB/VR+ H/o/t/e/l/s (com) and both singulars :) to my portfolio

immersive/xr/holo/ar/vr/ already taken obviously
