Showcase your best EMD (exact match domain) -- that means one domain per member, please!

EMD's should be .com!

Looking forward to seeing some quality showcases...

Keep 'em coming.

Feel free to post a few (can't edit the original one-domain-rule) so long as they're proper EMDs/category-killers!

Just out of curiosity, what would be your definition of an exact match domain (EMD)?

I guess my definition of "category killer" is quite different than many others. :)

lol mine is "close enough". :xf.grin:

I mean each one I posted is an Exact match for something if you take the time to Google it. At first glance they don't look much but if you dig deep or in most cases not too deep you will see why they are EMD?

If I have been misinformed all this time then please do school me. (no sarcasm here) I genuinely want to know. Thanks.

I am confused now because EMD is pretty logical Exact Match Domain. Pretty self explanatory or so I thought.

I am prepared to look dumb now.

I see SmartClock, CosmeticInjector.com even WomenAccessories.com. Even these last two kinda would work better as plural like Cosmetic(s)Injector.com and Women(s)Accessories.com.

I'm curious why mine are being singled out. (scratching me head because I have no hair lol)

Maybe because you flooded the thread with so many domains to start with?

I would say a "category killer" EMD needs to be in a large field, and be the best, or at least one of the best in that field.

Let's take - DatacenterBattery.com

Data.com - Category killer
Battery.com - Category killer
DataCenter.com - Category killer
DatacenterBattery.com - Way too niche to be category killer.

It is basically where you draw the line.

A couple from this thread I would personally consider category killers are -

Forklift Training - You could argue the category killer is Forklift.com of Forklifts.com but Forklift Training is a large field with lots of money in it, taken in hundreds of domains, with many end users. I still see this type as a category killer personally.

Kettlebell - The best domain in the field.

Wouldn't a "category killer" be separate from an "exact match domain?"

I mean you could say DATA com is a category killer exact match domain. While DatacenterBattery.com is an exact match domain.

Further, cars.com would be a category killer exact match domain, but redsportscars.com would be an exact match, but not necessarily category killer.

I guess I have always understood "exact match domains" to be an exact match, regardless of niche.

Well, the title of this thread is "category-killer EMD".

Something like PinkPurses.com is an EMD, but not a category killer really because that is a sub-category in my view. Not many people build a business on just selling pink purses.

Ha ha! I suppose I singled them out because there were so many. :)

Some others in the thread have said that EMD is a subjective term. I feel differently. When I see/say EMD, I'm thinking of domain names that exactly match the generic name of a product or service that one would use if they were:
  • Seeking to buy that product or service; or
  • Engaged in the business of selling that product or service
For me this excludes all of the following:
  • Names with adverbs or adjectives (i.e. Best, Fast, Top)
  • Names with incorrect grammar (i.e. WomenAccessories… sorry for picking on that one @jamaltq)
  • Geo names (unless the geo name is crucial to the product or service name, like in MiamiTours)
I know opinions vary, but the general understanding of EMDs in the domain community has been a pet peeve of mine.

My view: If you truly own an EMD, it should be the #1 authoritative name on the internet that refers to that product or service.

And yes, it should be .com. Why? Because when we say EMD, there can only be one perfect match for each product or service (with possible exceptions made for singular versus plural, where either could have EMD value).

Great points. I do agree in a sense that EMDs and category killers could be separated easily.

Still pretty ambiguous, but it's a case-by-case basis. Some are clearly neither a category killer or emd.

I agree that RedSportscars.com is not a category killer because it is a niche sub-category.

But I also think that some fields have many category killers. In the car field there are almost countless high quality EMD that you could build a primary business on. UsedCars.com is one example.

aaaaahhhh. Well now that makes sense. Thanks for that.

What about Primorsky.com ? It's a Geo and upcoming Russia "Las Vegas" or "Macau". or at least I'm hoping.

Emotet.com is the most devastating Malware right now to date.

next is Sodinokibi.com

As far as flooding the post with a bunch of domains. Chalk that up to a bit of over "enthusiasm". I think it's "allowed". Most domainers should be excited to show what they have. even if they aren't exact.

But I get now what you are saying. Category killer isn't just EMD but it has to be one with a ton of monthly searches.

my .bet's have good numbers.

  • Geo names (unless the geo name is crucial to the product or service name, like in MiamiTours)

I think GEO domains have some category killer domains, but they really need to be in large high dollar fields like real estate, or things unique to that city.

I would consider something like Miami Condos one; large field and well known for that city.
Something like Omaha condos is still an EMD, but one with far less demand.

Personally, none of those names are EMDs. They could very well be valuable domains, but they are not EMDs (imo).

Two are geo names, and you say that two match the names of malware. No one is looking to buy malware. Now a name like EmotetDetectionSoftware… that could be an EMD. Probably not a good one, but if it matches a product that is being sold, and it's the #1 way that the product is referenced online, then it's a EMD.

It is a category kille name, as you probably will not be able to kill it once you meet it :)
