Bought a new .io domain through sedo last week a NN.io , bit of an investment and gamble but worth a shot in my opinion.

Anyone investing in .io domains? please feel free to share your investments.

Cheers

~$3 increase from Afilias on Jan'1...
So renew/transfer at current fee...

So will .info be $3 more expensive to renew?
Other Afilias TLDs will be increased as well...
This increase is within 7-10% - and that's why it means ~$3 for .io

I really don't see how .io is better than .bio.
I have a few perfect .bio's which don't sell, or sells but doesn't get paid.
...
In each case, a group of people get best names in an extension, and make it popular artificially, and fake-sells some poor ones, and do deals with big players and at the end really make it popular, at least temporarily.
...
Why do I say this, because I'm jealous? No, I'm not against speculation. We are not talking about fairness here. .biz was made very unpopular, and some domains which would sell for millions if were .com, were dropping, and could be grabbed just for $2. Now it doesn't happen, because neulevel is reserving them for themselves and not allow them to drop. So will they make .biz popuar: I think they will give it a try.

maybe, but they're always dropping like hotcakes (.io)

I have dropped a ton -- not worth renewals.

How are these two related at all?

Domainers can't make any extension popular. IO is popular because many end-users like it.

I was able to register 60 LLL .co's, sold premium ones for 70, and dropped the rest, and suddenly .co became popular, and everyone pretends each is worth 5K or more. It is like fashion. Some people go to tech conferences, and pretend there is only one extension for hightech and it is .io. This is very much like making bitcoin popular, out of nothing. If it works, invest on it, but I don't see any intrinsic value.
Ok, there might be some value coming from legal status of .io, but I'm not aware of it. So, maybe each other extension is controlled by a country , or a private firm, and they can quitely do nasty things for some domains, and this can't be done for .io(?) and if so then I would agree there is an intrinsic value in it.

well we don't realy make all the rules... and sometimes we don't know who does or why... whether its bitcoin or .io... but facts are facts.. so we just need to learn them in this case.. and facts are that .io is not even in same galaxy as .bio.... cheers

As others have said, all domain extensions are essentially equal in terms of their utility. Some minor reliability issues aside, all extensions resolve as well as each other - which is their function.

Then there's some SEO considerations and how Google views the extensions in terms of being country specific or not.

But ultimately it's just down to how commonly they are used, and how recognised they are. Io domains have become, for better or worse, extremely common in the tech sector. That's why there is a good market. There's not much logic to it, just the madness of crowds really.

It's all about usage and recognizability. If a tech bro sees another tech bro build a startup on .io, when they start a company they'll think of the .io. For better or worse, .io has built a LOT of mindshare from all the tech startups who couldn't find a .com available (or weren't willing to pay for it), just like .co got mindshare from consumer-oriented startups. I can't think of a single company with .bio. The only new TLD that comes even close to com/io/co in terms of mindshare is .app, and it's obvious why.

How strong are LLL.io domains? I see that pretty much everything is taken, and yet namebio only lists one sale - lll.io for $320. Do you know any other sales, esp. to end user? I have MLE // io

Hard to sell, unless they are a word or highly pronounceable. I had abz.io and never managed to shift it. Generally avoid.
